Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 544: Living in the Gutter
Melody Yardley looked visibly exhausted, probably because she didn’t sleep well last night due to this matter.
After sitting down, Melody Yardley said, "These things are a bit lengthy to talk about."
Audrey Sutton: "It’s okay. Go ahead, we have time."
Melody Yardley: "Now my life is practically in your hands, so there’s nothing to hide anymore. Can I order some breakfast first? I left in a hurry and haven’t eaten, and my stomach feels a bit uncomfortable."
Audrey Sutton didn’t hesitate and asked the waiter to bring a menu.
After Melody Yardley ordered breakfast, she looked up and saw the promotional poster on the wall of the shop. It was for the TV drama starring Simon Sue and Clarissa Morgan. There was a trace of envy in her eyes, and with a sigh, she said in a low voice, "I’m her biological sister, born of the same father but different mothers, but we haven’t met often. She doesn’t like me, and I don’t like her. My father and mother divorced because that woman got pregnant with her. After my mother’s divorce, she developed depression and committed suicide within half a year. At that time, I went to find my dad, who only gave me some money and said he’d support me until I graduated from college, but only if I didn’t disrupt his current life. So, after that, we only communicated by phone and never met again."
Audrey Sutton, although unfamiliar with Clarissa Morgan’s family situation, felt that Melody Yardley wasn’t lying.
"But the good times didn’t last long. Before I graduated from freshman year, that woman discovered my dad had been secretly sending me living expenses. My dad listened to her a lot and eventually gave me a hundred thousand dollars, as if cutting off our father-daughter relationship." Melody Yardley let out a bitter smile as she picked up her hot milk. Audrey Sutton thought she might need a glass of wine more at this moment.
Seraphina Vaughn couldn’t help but mutter, "No wonder that Morgan woman acts the way she does now. Her mother was a mistress."
Audrey Sutton suddenly turned her thoughts back and asked, "What does this have to do with your falsifying accounts?" 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Melody Yardley said, "Ma’am, I only hope you can forgive me. I can’t lose this job. In the future, regarding Clarissa Morgan, I can help you."
Audrey Sutton: "Help me? Wait, how do you know my relationship with her isn’t good?"
Melody Yardley: "I know she likes President Warner. She hasn’t given up yet. Like her whore mother, she enjoys wrecking other people’s marriages, so she’s surely tried to trip you up in private."
Audrey Sutton looked at Melody Yardley with skepticism, worried that Melody Yardley was actually in cahoots with Clarissa Morgan, pretending to be unfriendly to get close to her. Otherwise, how would she know so much when their circles don’t even overlap?
Seraphina Vaughn voiced Audrey Sutton’s concern, "How do you know all these things?"
Melody Yardley explained, "When she was in college, she sent me a picture of her and President Warner, boasting he was her boyfriend. At that time, I was already working here. She probably wanted to tell me she would be my boss someday. But then you and President Warner announced your marriage, and I mocked her, saying her boyfriend married another woman. She then said she’d definitely win President Warner back. Shortly after, she returned to the country, so I guessed she must have done something behind the scenes to harm you and President Warner."
Hearing Melody Yardley’s explanation, Audrey Sutton felt her suspicions ease.
Clarissa Morgan has been busy breaking into showbiz lately, and the drama with Simon Sue catapulted her to fame. She seems to have grown more remarkable than before, and she did all this for Shane Warner. She surely won’t give up easily, and who knows what trouble she might stir up someday.
This Melody Yardley might be helpful someday.
Seraphina Vaughn accused her, "But you can’t justify doing those heinous acts because of your misfortune."
Speaking of this, Melody Yardley grew even sadder, her eyes brimming with tears, "I didn’t want to either. It’s tough for women to survive in the workplace. I joined Warner Group because I heard about its positive work culture, no inappropriate relationships, no casting couch, so I worked hard to get in, only to fall into Theodore Quinne’s trap."
Audrey Sutton: "Director Quinne?"
Melody Yardley: "He seems refined and polite. When he joined the department, I was the one who showed him around, but I didn’t expect him to secretly drug me at a party, violated me, and recorded a video to threaten me into helping him, becoming his puppet. If I refused, he’d release those videos online."
Seraphina Vaughn listened, increasingly unable to fathom Melody Yardley’s actions: "Then you should have reported him to the police! Why let him manipulate you?"
Melody Yardley frowned and lowered her eyes, a look of profound regret on her face, "I... I was too scared back then. I feared those videos would get leaked. If that happened, not only would I lose this job, but I’d also be shunned by others, so I ended up on this path."
Audrey Sutton listened and handed a tissue to Melody Yardley, contemplating before saying, "I can’t cover up the things you’ve done, but I can give you a chance to report and disclose everything truthfully, allowing you a lighter punishment. Then you can continue working at the company, but you must promise not to offend again, or next time I won’t be so forgiving."
Melody Yardley looked at Audrey Sutton gratefully, nodding, "Thank you, I understand why President Warner likes you so much."
"And with Clarissa Morgan, if I need any help, I’ll come to you."
Melody Yardley nodded, gazing up at the poster on the wall, "She took everything from me, pampered since childhood. Why does she get to live a glamorous life under the sun, while I have to struggle in the gutter?"
Audrey Sutton looked at her and said, "That’s not entirely right. Clarissa Morgan is wrong, but you can’t let her darken you. Believe that you can shine anywhere, and you have advantages Clarissa Morgan doesn’t, right? I’m not saying to do anything to her but just in case she doesn’t give up and troubles me, I might seek your help."
Melody Yardley nodded, "Ma’am, rest assured, on this matter, I stand by you."
Audrey Sutton: "Just call me Audrey, and I’ll call you Joy. When you get to the company later, disclose everything to your President Warner, and don’t do such things again. As for your ordeal with Theodore Quinne, decide for yourself whether to report him. I’m not you and can’t empathize with your hardship, so I won’t make the decision for you. But he won’t get away with falsifying accounts."
Melody Yardley: "I will tell the police. I’m likely not the only female victim; hopefully, he’d get a longer sentence."
