Chapter 538: Chapter 538: A Rotten Apple in the Department

Audrey Sutton handed the menu to Barry Barrett and Flora Lane, saying, "Order whatever you like, Shane is picking up the tab."

Barry immediately looked around: "Your husband is here too?"

Audrey: "Even if he’s not here, he can still pay."

Flora flipped through the menu, chuckling, "Then I won’t hold back."

Barry: "Flora, with handsome Mr. Quinn, what delicacies won’t he buy for you?"

Flora: "He’s generous, but I’m a bit hesitant to spend his money, otherwise, I’d always feel like I owe him."

Audrey: "Then just get married soon, that way what’s his becomes yours, and you won’t feel indebted."

Flora’s eyes widened at the mention of marriage, "Marriage... isn’t that a bit too fast? I don’t plan on it for now."

Barry looked at Flora disdainfully, saying, "This woman is so picky. Such a good man is throwing himself at her, and she still acts so uppity. If I had a breast enhancement, I’d go and lure your man away."

Flora turned to Barry and asked, "Who told you he likes big boobs?"

Barry mischievously glanced at Flora’s chest, saying, "Apart from that, I really can’t figure out what he sees in you."

Flora: "Flora relies on personal charm, okay? Vulgar!"

Audrey: "Flora, didn’t you say you guys are getting along well? What are you worried about? Has Mor proposed to you?"

Flora handed the menu to Barry, took a sip of her tea, and sighed, "He did hint at it, but I subtly declined. I’m just afraid he’ll regret it."

"If you keep hesitating, someone else will snatch Mor away, and then you’ll regret it!"

Flora looked rather calm, saying, "If he can be taken away, then he wasn’t really mine."

Audrey: "You can’t say that. Love needs reciprocation too. You can’t just rely on him chasing you and feel secure in prolonging it. When he feels he’s given his all and still doesn’t get any response from you, he’ll definitely become disheartened."

Audrey felt she had the right to speak on this matter because she deeply understood that sense of powerlessness when pursuing Shane. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"Sometimes letting go isn’t because you don’t love anymore, but because you’ve run out of strategies and don’t know how to love anymore."

Barry nodded in agreement: "Right, Flora, sometimes happiness doesn’t wait for you. If you miss it, you might regret it for a lifetime!"

Flora waved her hand in annoyance, "Okay, let’s drop this topic. If we haven’t broken up by next year, then I’ll get married."

Audrey: "You can’t always think about breaking up."

Barry chimed in: "Exactly, if I were you, I’d be thinking about baby names."

Flora: "Order, order. I’m starting to suspect he bribed both of you to brainwash me the moment we meet."

Audrey: "Okay, okay, let’s not talk about this. Bear, tell us what happened with you last night?"

Barry sent the order from his phone before saying, "I even had nightmares last night. You don’t know how tense I felt while eavesdropping."

Audrey: "So it was just Joy and Director Armstrong? What about Director Quinne? Are they in cahoots?"

Barry shook his head: "Director Quinne got a call around ten and left."

Audrey: "What about the minister?"

Barry: "After dinner, the minister went home to be with his wife and kids. He didn’t come with us to karaoke."

Audrey: "Sure enough, you can’t read minds. Joy seems so straightforward, but I never thought she’d be up to this behind the scenes."

Flora: "Falsifying accounts is illegal, and it’s your family’s Third Young Master’s company, so the amount can’t be small. If this gets found out, they won’t have a good time."

Audrey thought about it and asked worriedly, "But since my husband is the head of the company, if they’re falsifying accounts, wouldn’t he also be responsible?"

Flora: "If it doesn’t involve taxes, there shouldn’t be too much of an issue. They probably just want to skim some off expenses. They wouldn’t dare mess with the big accounts."

Barry said, "But your husband’s business is so big, what they manage to embezzle might just be pocket change for the company, but for regular folks like us, it’s a fortune."

Audrey: "I’ll go check the situation at the company tomorrow and then decide."

Barry: "I’m just hoping Director Quinne isn’t involved. If he happens to be with Joy’s group, my dreams will be completely crushed."

Flora: "You haven’t worked here long, but all you talk about is Director Quinne."

Barry: "What am I supposed to do? I don’t have your luck. Happiness doesn’t come knocking, so I have to fight for it myself."

Audrey thought it over all night and decided to play the fool to catch the cunning.

The directors think she’s just killing time, so she’ll show them how to kill time. Once they’ve let their guard down, she’ll catch them all in one swoop!

Just thinking about these plans made Audrey feel thrilled, giving her extra motivation for work.

Once in the office, Audrey openly played on her phone, cracked sunflower seeds, and played games, quickly becoming the disruptive influence in the department.

The minister dared not manage her and stopped assigning her work, treating her like she was a deity to be worshipped.

Joy didn’t show any signs of disdain either. During her free time, she would occasionally come over to chat and gossip while cracking sunflower seeds. To see Joy’s reaction, Audrey suddenly said, "Joy, I find working in this department quite enjoyable. Why don’t you teach me? Maybe I’ll just stick around and kill time."

Hearing those words, Joy’s expression faltered briefly, hesitated for two seconds before smiling and saying, "Ma’am, don’t joke about that. If you want to stay, it’s all up to what Shane says, right? But isn’t office life boring? As you can see, every day is about dealing with tedious things. It’s very dull."

Audrey continued playing Candy Crush on her phone, replying, "I think it’s okay here. Lots of people, lively. It’s just me alone at home, and that’s what’s boring."

Joy laughed and sighed, "You haven’t experienced our nine-to-five struggles yet. You’re just here to get a taste of life. Soon enough, even if we want you to stay, you’d not want to anymore."

Audrey: "But Joy, I really admire you. I want to become a capable and charismatic woman like you."

"You’re flattering me! Ma’am, enjoy your game; I have to run some errands at the bank."

As soon as Audrey heard that, she put down her phone and said, "Joy, take me with you. I want to learn more from you."
