Chapter 535: Chapter 535: A Daughter Married Is Like Water Spilled Out

Phoebe King frowned and nudged Stephen Sutton with her elbow, saying unhappily, "Look at other people’s husbands, they’re all protective of their wives. Not only do you not help me, but you also join them in exposing my shortcomings."

Stephen Sutton: "It’s the truth."

Audrey Sutton smiled and tried to ease the situation: "Alright, alright, honey, bring the menu over again and let Sister Phoebe order a few lighter dishes."

Even though Phoebe King ordered the dishes herself, once they were on the table, she hardly ate any.

"Looking at the pictures made me feel hungry, but once it’s on the table, I lose my appetite?"

Audrey Sutton: "That’s how it is. I had two days where whatever I ate, I threw up, but it’s been better lately."

The two of them talked delightfully about the topic of pregnancy while Stephen Sutton and Shane Warner silently listened, unable to contribute to the conversation.

After dinner, Phoebe King probably couldn’t wait to confirm her pregnancy, so she asked Stephen Sutton to drive home to find Evan Sutton.

The whole family was gathered around while Evan Sutton placed his hand on Phoebe King’s pulse. Everyone was quiet, hardly daring to breathe.

After a few seconds, Evan Sutton took his hand away and smiled faintly, "It is indeed a happy pulse."

Hazel Yates, who always doted on Phoebe King, was so happy to hear about the happy pulse that she couldn’t stop smiling. She told Stephen Sutton, "I think you and Stephen should move back in for now so I can take care of Phoebe."

Audrey Sutton pouted, feeling a little jealous, "Mom, what about me? You never said you wanted to take care of me."

Hazel Yates laughed and said, "Hasn’t Shane been taking good care of you? Besides, a married daughter is like water that’s been poured out; you can’t compare to Phoebe."

Audrey Sutton immediately ran over to Samuel Sutton, wrapped her arms around his, and acted coquettishly, "Dad, look at mom, she’s changed!"

Hazel Yates intentionally went over to pull Audrey Sutton’s hand away with a playful tease, "Go hold your own husband!"

Samuel Sutton also joined in the fun, patting Audrey Sutton’s head, "Don’t worry, dad will always open the door for you when you come home."

"Dad’s the best!"

With tomorrow being the weekend and no work, and buoyed by Phoebe King’s good news, Audrey Sutton played at home until after 11 o’clock before she and Shane Warner headed home.

In the car, Shane Warner asked her, "Do you want to move back?"

Audrey Sutton looked at him quizzically, "What’s up?"

While driving, Shane Warner said calmly, "Just realized that after you married me, I naturally assumed it was a given that you’d live with me. Suddenly thought about how you never left home before marrying me."

Understanding his point, Audrey Sutton smiled and said, "They’re all my homes. You’re family to me too, so it doesn’t matter where we live."

Shane Warner smiled, feeling a warm sensation fill his heart.

He thought he loved the girl before him not just because she suddenly appeared at their wedding.

If it had been someone else that day, the wedding might have continued, but the outcome wouldn’t be like this.

His slow-growing love for her probably stemmed from moments like just now, where she always moved him in unexpected ways.

Audrey Sutton played with the plush toy on the dashboard, grinning, "Actually, I prefer living alone with you."

Shane Warner: "Why’s that?"

Turning her head to him with a sly smile, Audrey Sutton said, "Because then you would think about me all the time. If I moved back home, you’d assume my parents were there to care for me, and you might get lazy."

Shane Warner chuckled, "I didn’t know you had such little schemes."

Audrey Sutton thought for a moment and added, "But I guess it’d be more tiring for you, balancing work and taking care of me."

Finishing her thought, she almost talked to herself, "But a father should endure some hardships; otherwise, you’d never know to cherish it. If you let my parents handle everything, you’d think having a baby isn’t hard, and you wouldn’t care about me."

Shane Warner: "There you go, making stories again."

Audrey Sutton: "It’s true. Many guys think like that, saying others can have babies, so why can’t you? Many have gone through it, so why are you being so delicate?"

Shane Warner: "Well, I’m not that kind of man; such people don’t deserve to be called men."

Audrey Sutton lightly smiled, "For now, it seems you’re not, but who knows about the future."

Shane Warner: "Not in the future either."

Audrey Sutton smiled happily, turning to look out the window, and after a while, said, "I’m always worried if we’ll stay like this forever. I admire the love my grandparents and parents have, deciding on one person for a lifetime."

Shane Warner slowly turned the steering wheel, changing lanes, and asked, "Why do you have such worries?"

Audrey Sutton pouted, "I don’t know, just feels like love can be fragile. There are many who’ve been happy and had kids, but still end up divorced. It seems many things crumble in the face of reality, and no one knows what tomorrow holds. One might meet someone later in life and discard the one who’s been there for years but lost the novelty."

Shane Warner: "I don’t like novelty; getting to know someone all over again is tedious."

Audrey Sutton smiled briefly, "I wasn’t specifically talking about you, just suddenly felt this way. My mom always told me not to worry about things that haven’t happened and to live in the present. Worrying and doubting unnecessarily will ruin any relationship."

Shane Warner: "Good to know."

Audrey Sutton sighed, looking out, "Is it because I’m pregnant? I feel like I’ve been overthinking lately."

Shane Warner: "I’ll take you out next weekend."

Audrey Sutton thought for a moment, "No, there’s a comic convention next weekend, and I want to go."

Shane Warner: "Do you have a signing event?"

Audrey Sutton shook her head, "I’m not scheduled for one, but I just got an idea."

Shane Warner: "Oh?"

Audrey Sutton: "It’s a secret for now, just promise to come with me then."

Shane Warner: "Another line for buying your comics?"

Audrey Sutton smiled, "No lines needed, just keep your Saturday free and come with me."

Back home, after taking a bath, Audrey Sutton snuggled into bed, playing on her phone while waiting for Shane Warner to finish bathing and join her in sleep.

She remembered when Barry Barrett had gone to a comic convention with a guy dressed in traditional Hanfu, and Audrey Sutton thought she wanted to show off with Shane Warner at the next convention.

Such a handsome husband shouldn’t stay hidden.

She browsed her shopping app, picking clothes for next week’s convention. Overwhelmed by choices and lacking knowledge in the field, she was worried about buying knock-offs.

Thinking Barry Barrett might know better, Audrey Sutton opened Barry Barrett’s chat to consult her, and also to ask how she and Director Quinne were progressing after tonight’s dinner.

Just as Audrey Sutton was typing, she noticed Barry Barrett on the other end was typing as well...
