Chapter 532: Chapter 532: Is the Truth Really That Important?

On Saturday morning, Audrey Sutton finally woke up naturally.

She didn’t see Shane Warner in the room and it was quiet everywhere.

Audrey got out of bed to look for Shane, walked downstairs, and heard the sounds of hammering in the backyard.

Following the sound, she saw Shane from a distance, holding a small iron hammer and nailing something to the swing in the yard.

It was probably because a few days ago, Audrey mentioned that the swing didn’t feel sturdy and creaked when she sat on it.

The morning sunlight was a warm yellow, casting a golden hue over the grass.

Audrey, in her fluffy slippers, walked toward Shane and asked with a smile, "Need any help?"

Shane looked back at her, glanced at his watch, and then stood up straight to look her up and down.

Her curly hair was messy, her pajamas were loose, and there was a blueberry stain on the sleeve from last night’s jam, so he said, "Hurry and go upstairs to change and tidy up."

Audrey yawned lazily and stretched, saying, "Aren’t we going out after lunch? Why change clothes now?"

Shane turned around and continued hammering, saying, "Mom and Dad are coming over for lunch."

Audrey was slightly stunned but still not in a hurry, asking, "Why are they coming over? And isn’t my dad abroad with my third brother?"

Shane emphasized again, "My parents."

Audrey was startled again, now flustered, as she rushed inside, asking, "When will they arrive?"

Shane: "Walk slowly, they should be here in over half an hour."

Audrey dared not delay and dashed upstairs.

A short while later, when she came back down, she was wearing a slightly formal long dress and asked Shane, "How about this outfit?"

Shane glanced at her and said, "They’re not coming for a red-carpet event."

Hearing this, Audrey went upstairs to change into a more casual sweater dress and was going to ask Shane when she ran into him at the staircase, and asked, "How about this one?"

Shane took a glance and said, "If you want to suit their taste, just wear sportswear, it looks energetic."

Audrey noticed Shane was in casual sportswear himself, recalled she’d bought a couple of sets, which she hadn’t worn much before stashing them away, and quickly went to dig them out.

"Ding-dong—" The doorbell rang downstairs.

Audrey tensed up and glanced at Shane, asking, "Are they here?"

Seeing her nervous look, Shane couldn’t help but smile, "You’re not meeting them for the first time, what are you so nervous about? I’ll go open the door, you get changed and come down."

Audrey nodded obediently, hurriedly putting on the clothes.

From afar, Helen Holloway’s voice could be heard, "It’s been a while since we visited, and the weather’s nice these days, plus it’s the weekend, so your dad and I decided to come over spontaneously."

"Where’s Audrey? Not awake yet?"

No sooner had the words left her mouth, Audrey arrived at the stairs and greeted, "Mom!"

Helen smiled happily, "Come down, sweetie, I bought lots of things, baby clothes, toys, these little clothes are so cute, I couldn’t help myself and bought a lot, enough for three or four kids." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Audrey came down with a dry laugh, "It’s still early, Mom, I’m only two months along."

Helen: "Time flies, and there’s still so much to prepare. It’s convenient to have these things at home early on."

Audrey: "Thanks, Mom."

Shane went out to help carry things from the car, while Helen pulled Audrey to the sofa, showing her everything she’d bought, one by one.

It was clear that Helen was also very excited about becoming a grandmother.

Shane came over and casually fixed Audrey’s hastily arranged collar while jokingly saying, "Mom, with all this stuff, you could open a small shop."

Helen laughed joyfully, "I didn’t know if it will be a boy or a girl, so I bought for both, they’ll be useful someday."

Audrey just smiled, not daring to mention she hadn’t decided on having a second child yet.

After looking at everything Helen bought, she kindly shared various pregnancy tips with Audrey.

Shane was busy preparing lunch in the kitchen when Wallace Warner, having just smoked outside, walked over to the counter beside Shane and asked, "How’s the investigation into your brother’s matter going?"

Shane paused his stir-frying for a moment and replied, "No results yet."

Wallace sighed, "It’s been so many years..."

Shane: "No matter how much time passes, the truth remains unchanged."

"The truth..." Wallace murmured, then asked as if talking to himself, "Is the truth that important?"

Shane looked up at him, "Dad, don’t you want to find out who killed my brother?"

Wallace sighed, "I do, but the culprit is right in front of us, what can we do about it?"

Shane understood the implication in Wallace’s words and after thinking, he said, "Based on the current progress of the investigation, the culprit might not be him."

Wallace’s brows furrowed, "Not him? How’s that possible? Who else besides him would harm Sean? With Sean’s death, he stood to gain the most."

"According to the police investigation, the culprit’s target at the time might not have been my brother, but Vincent Warner, so his suspicion can be ruled out for now. Dad, you knew the situation back then best, who do you think could have orchestrated all this?"

Wallace frowned and was silent for two seconds, then said, "Is the police information completely reliable? Haven’t you considered that Vincent might have bribed them?"

Shane was taken aback, he hadn’t considered that.

He glanced at Audrey, still chatting with his mom, and his eyes grew more determined, "I had Audrey’s second brother investigate, I trust him."

Wallace: "Fine, let’s assume you’re right, that the target was Vincent. Why did Sean end up dead? Could it be that Vincent saw through their plan and took the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone?"

Shane lowered his head in thought, feeling that possibility also made sense.

"I’ll keep investigating, but I currently have very few leads. Dad, if you have any data or clues, please let me know."

Wallace sighed, "This matter was covered up by your grandfather back then, what do I know? I just went to claim your brother’s body, I know nothing else. It seems this secret was taken to the grave by the old man."
