Chapter 288: Chapter 288: Best Friend’s Boyfriend

Audrey Sutton drank too much and was running to the bathroom for the second time.

The bar owned by her brother was as familiar as home to her, and since she knew it was managed strictly and was much safer than other bars, she had no worries about going to the bathroom alone.

What she didn’t expect was that Nolan Hawke saw her heading to the bathroom just after coming down the stairs.

Nolan Hawke followed her at a leisurely pace and waited outside the women’s bathroom for Audrey to come out.

When Audrey came out, she was engrossed in chatting with Shane Warner on her phone, so she didn’t notice Nolan standing not far away as she walked to the sink.

She stood by the sink to finish replying to Shane’s message, then placed her phone near the sink and turned on the faucet to wash her hands.

She suddenly noticed someone coming next to her, and the faucet beside hers was turned on by a pair of big, distinctively jointed hands.

They were clearly a man’s hands.

The sinks for the men’s and women’s bathrooms were connected, but there were over ten of them. She was obviously closer to the women’s section, and all the other faucets were unoccupied, so it was strange for someone to squeeze up beside her.

Audrey figured it was probably some young guy trying to flirt with her. She raised her head and glanced secretly in the mirror, only to her surprise, found that she knew the person.

"Boss Hawke?"

Nolan turned his head and glanced at Audrey, as if just noticing who was standing beside him, and smiled, "Miss Sutton? What a coincidence?"

Audrey gave a dry laugh, immediately dismissing the idea that he was hitting on her, not knowing what to say next.

Nolan turned off his faucet before she did but didn’t immediately walk over to the hand dryer station; instead, he lowered his hands to the side of the sink and said, "You look beautiful today."

"Huh?" Audrey was momentarily stunned, not expecting such a straightforward compliment. If he weren’t Barry Barrett’s boyfriend, she might have thought he was hitting on her. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Thinking photographers might not hesitate to praise beautiful things, Audrey dryly replied, "Thank you."

Nolan smiled and took a step toward her. Audrey’s back stiffened as she saw his hand reaching toward her.

She cautiously stepped half a step to the side, only to realize from the corner of her eye in the mirror that he was reaching for the tissue box mounted on the wall. His hand passed by her face merely to take a tissue, which he used to gentlemanly wipe away water from his hands.

Realizing she had misunderstood Nolan’s intention, Audrey’s face flushed with embarrassment.

Audrey belatedly turned off the faucet with her head down, initially intending to reapply lipstick, but she no longer felt like doing that.

She took a step back, intending to turn and leave, but Nolan’s foot quietly blocked her as she turned off the faucet.

As Audrey stepped back, her high heel caught on his shoe, causing her to stumble. Before she could reach for the wall, a force stabilized her waist.

Once she had regained her balance, she quickly realized she was in Nolan’s arms.

"Careful." He softly reminded her.

Audrey hurried to stand straight and stepped back several steps, "Sorry... I’m sorry."

Nolan smiled gently, lowered his head, and looked at her feet, "Are you okay? Did you sprain your ankle?"

"No... I’m fine; I’ll head back now." Audrey awkwardly waved toward outside, and before Nolan could respond, she hurriedly walked away.

After taking just two steps, Nolan’s voice called from behind, "You left your phone."

Audrey remembered her phone, immediately turned back, and saw Nolan holding it out to her.

As she reached for her phone, she awkwardly said, "Thank you..."

Her hand clasped the phone and tugged slightly, but it seemed Nolan was holding on, not intending to let it go.

When she looked up at Nolan in confusion, he suddenly released his grip, and she heard him say, "Be careful, don’t be so scatterbrained."

Feeling awkward, Audrey didn’t know what to say, so she tucked the phone into her bag and turned to walk away quickly.

She still felt something was strange, though she couldn’t pinpoint exactly what.

It seemed Nolan always gave her a subtle ambiguous feeling. She and he hadn’t done anything, yet she felt guilty, as if she were betraying her husband or Barry.

Perhaps it was just because her best friend’s boyfriend’s status was somewhat sensitive, causing these strange thoughts?

Nolan loved Barry very much; it was all just her imagination. Nolan hadn’t intended anything toward her.

Perhaps when handing back her phone, he merely hadn’t let go in time.

Audrey dismissed her odd thoughts, and when she returned, she heard Barry talking on the phone with Nolan.

Although she couldn’t hear Nolan from the other end, Barry’s happy expression showed how good their relationship was.

Recalling the bathroom events, Audrey took a deep breath, reminding herself it was all in her head; Nolan clearly loved Barry.

After Barry ended the call, Flora teased her, "Aren’t you worried about your guy, Brother Hawke? Aren’t you going to take a look? What if he’s flirting with some girls behind your back?"

Barry put down her phone with a smile, saying, "Flora, you’re just jealous of us, always hoping Audrey and I break up!"

"I’m just trying to remind you, I know men better than you do. Their nature isn’t as simple as you think. They might act all honest in front of you but do shady things behind your back, keeping you in the dark like a fool?"

Audrey replied proudly, "I can’t speak for other men, but Shane isn’t like that."

As she said this, her gaze wandered toward Shane’s direction, suddenly noticing that the place Shane and his group were sitting earlier now only had Mor and the recently arrived Julian Bishop, the other three were nowhere to be seen.

Barry mimicked Audrey’s tone, "My Brother Hawke isn’t like that either."

Audrey’s glance fell on Faye Xavier, who was intimately dancing with a hottie in the dance floor, wondering if Shane was also out having fun.

Chatting with pretty girls about life and dreams somewhere?

With that thought, Audrey stood up and headed that way.

Mor and Julian Bishop were both those cold types, though Mor only looked cold on the outside but was gentle in personality, whereas Julian was cold inside and out, mostly responding with "Mm-hmm, okay, fine."

So Audrey approached Mor and asked, "Where’s Shane gone?"
