Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 274: Do You Think I’m Weak?
Clarissa Morgan stood in front of the mirror combing her hair, casually responding to Nolan Hawke, "You can’t rush it, take it step by step, don’t get overconfident and let your guard down."
"It’s easy to destroy someone; I think you’re just too timid."
Clarissa Morgan laughed, "It’s indeed easy to destroy someone, but it’s hard not to drag yourself down in the process. Do you think even if you forced your way now, Shane Warner would let you go?"
"Then what’s your plan?"
"What if Audrey Sutton willingly got involved with you? Wouldn’t the outcome be different? All that would be lost is a woman who betrayed herself. Would Shane Warner still stand up for her?" Clarissa Morgan tied her hair with a rubber band, turned around, walked over to Nolan Hawke, and put her hand on his shoulder, leaning in to say, "So what you need to do now is charm that girl, make her betray her morals for you."
"Cheating on her husband by hooking up with her best friend’s boyfriend..." Nolan Hawke’s smile gradually turned wicked, as if the mere thought excited him.
Shane Warner’s return time was Wednesday afternoon, just about dinner time, because the two had agreed to have dinner together.
Shane Warner wouldn’t let her pick him up from the airport, and Audrey Sutton was busy preparing dinner for him, so she had no time to pick him up.
Even though it had only been two or three days apart, Audrey Sutton had prepared a particularly lavish dinner to welcome him back.
There were three main courses, plus four or five side dishes and a rich soup.
She skipped her elective class in the afternoon, went to the supermarket to buy ingredients, and started preparing dinner.
A little past six, it wasn’t dark yet, and the sunset glow was a warm orange.
As the dishes were almost ready, Audrey Sutton picked up her phone, just about to text Shane Warner to ask where he was, when she heard the sound of a car outside.
Audrey Sutton immediately put down her phone and got up to run outside.
When she opened the door, Shane Warner had already taken his suitcase from the trunk and was walking towards her.
"You’re back?" Audrey Sutton greeted him with a smile, taking the suitcase from his hand while saying, "You’ve worked hard, are you tired?"
There were only a few changes of clothes in the suitcase, not heavy, so when Audrey Sutton reached out to take it, Shane Warner let it go.
He’d been on business trips more than once or twice, even longer ones than this, but she’d never greeted him so warmly like today. It was the first time she said "You’ve worked hard."
Shane Warner walked into the house, and Audrey Sutton took out his slippers from the shoe cabinet, almost bending down to help him change them.
"I’ve brewed your favorite tea. You sit down and have a cup of tea first; I’ll serve the soup, and then we can eat."
Shane Warner changed into slippers, not going to the living room for tea but heading over to the counter, turning on the faucet to wash his hands while asking, "What did you do wrong?"
Audrey Sutton: "Huh?"
"Why so attentive today?"
"Am I? Aren’t I always this considerate?"
"You’re considerate?" Shane Warner chuckled, walking over to easily take down a dish she couldn’t quite reach, handing it to her, "Did you do something to betray me, and now you feel guilty seeing me?"
Audrey Sutton took the dish from him, serving the food while saying, "Why do you think that? I’ve always been a good housewife, okay?"
Shane Warner looked at her with a faint smile, as if trying to see if there was any clue.
When it came to cooking, she was indeed quite good, taking care of all his meals well.
The thing that puzzled him was mostly her attitude; she was rarely this straightforwardly enthusiastic before.
"Alright, take the soup to the table; you have some soup first while I tidy up here."
Shane Warner didn’t know the reason for her change in attitude, but he liked her being this way.
Not detecting any guilty emotions from her expression, Shane Warner didn’t dwell too much on it.
The airplane food couldn’t compare to her cooking, so he hadn’t eaten on the plane.
In the morning, the hotel breakfast was all flashy and insubstantial things, so now, seeing the table full of her dishes, he indeed felt a bit hungry.
Shane Warner sat at the dining table, picked up a spoon, and served himself a bowl of chicken soup with herbs, the broth rich but not greasy, with a faint herbal aroma.
But... what’s with the deer antler and yam?
Audrey Sutton brought over the remaining two dishes, watching Shane Warner take small sips of the chicken soup with a thoughtful expression, and showed a bit of worry, asking, "What’s wrong? Doesn’t it taste good?"
Shane Warner put down the soup bowl, staring at the deer antler inside, asked her, "Do you think I’m weak?"
Audrey Sutton’s movements paused, showing a bit of confusion and puzzlement: "Huh?"
Shane Warner used his chopsticks to point at the deer antler in the bowl, then at the plate of cold okra, looking up to ask her, "When did I fail to satisfy you? Making all these dishes for kidney nourishment for me to eat?"
"What? I just saw fresh okra at the supermarket today and bought some, and the deer antler was from my mom, she said to stew it when I had the time. I didn’t even know this stuff was for kidney health."
Shane Warner looked at her, seeing that her hurried explanation didn’t seem like a lie, and considering she was always the one to call it off during their intimate moments, he figured she probably didn’t have any dissatisfaction in that regard.
He assumed an all-forgiving demeanor: "Let’s eat."
Audrey Sutton took off the apron, sat across from him, picked up a spoon and started serving herself soup, asking expectantly: "Is it good?"
"It’s alright."
Audrey Sutton smiled with pursed lips; she now knew that when he said words like "alright" or "passable," it was his way of giving a compliment.
"By the way, I’ve arranged the amusement park shoot for Friday because I’m afraid the cherry blossoms won’t look good if it’s too late, and as for Boss Hawke’s friend’s schedule, I haven’t confirmed it yet. I told him it would be the weekend, but I didn’t check your plans, so I haven’t set it yet."
"Saturday’s fine. Did he say where we’ll be shooting?"
"He mentioned it would be an outdoor shoot, but the exact location hasn’t been decided. I’ll talk to Boss Hawke about it later."
"Did you two exchange contact information?"
Audrey Sutton’s motion of picking up food slightly paused, fearing he might misunderstand: "...Yeah, we only talked about the shoot, really, you can check my phone if you don’t believe me."
Shane Warner replied with the words she’d used before: "Behave yourself."
Audrey Sutton giggled: "Besides, he could be Bear’s boyfriend, and my heart only has room for you. You have to trust your wife."
Shane Warner snorted lightly: "I might barely trust you, but I don’t trust other men."
"Don’t worry; besides you, no other man catches my eye."
"Who taught you to be so smooth-talking?"
"Smooth-talking? Every word is honest!"
