Chapter 200: Chapter 200: A Poisonous Thorn

"Still playing around even after having a wife and kids?!" Audrey Sutton sounded as if she had heard something unbelievable, her tone and expression were full of surprise.

Flora Lane, on the other hand, seemed unfazed, just not expecting such a thing to happen to her: "The key is that several interns in the company are trying to get close to him. I really don’t understand what these young girls are thinking."

"He’s not even that good-looking. You say if he were as handsome as Third Young Master Warner, the kind that makes my heart flutter with just one glance, and tells me he wants to keep me, I might hesitate for a second. But him..."

Before Flora could finish, Audrey quickly interrupted her: "Pfft, my Third Young Master isn’t that kind of person!"

Flora chuckled: "Audrey, you haven’t interacted with enough men. Some men aren’t what they seem, like the guy I mentioned. His wife doesn’t know he fools around outside. She praises her husband to everyone just like you praise your Third Young Master, but in reality, she’s oblivious."

"Don’t talk nonsense, my Third Young Master is too busy working all day to have time for flings," Audrey retorted, but her tone lacked confidence.

"Alright, I know your Third Young Master is a one-of-a-kind good man. If you have the chance, ask your perfect man to help me get a position in the company. Even a sales job at one of the physical stores will do. I heard Starfield offers decent pay, just enough for me to make a living."

Audrey nodded: "Okay, I’ll ask for you when I get back."

As the two walked past the overpass and were about to visit another venue, they suddenly noticed a large crowd gathering in front of the plaza.

"Are they filming a movie?" Flora wondered aloud.

Audrey squinted and looked into the distance: "Isn’t that Simon Sue?"

At the same time, they overheard several young girls passing by, running towards the commotion while discussing Simon Sue, confirming Audrey’s guess.

"Fortunately, Bear’s not here, or he’d definitely drag us over to join the fun. I don’t know why, but I’m not interested in these young guys at all now. I just want to find a mature man, seasoned by time, who can take good care of me."

Audrey chuckled teasingly: "Who was it that used to complain about my Third Young Master being old?"

"Well, that was when I was young and naive. Now I’m so envious of you, always flaunting your love on X, making me so jealous."

Audrey thought about some of the single men she knew who fit Flora’s criteria, like Julian Bishop, Mor, and her third brother who’s pressured by their family to marry. But she didn’t dare to play matchmaker. If it worked, it would be great, but if not, it could be super awkward when they meet again later.

With Flora’s flirtation skills, she’ll definitely make a move when she finds the right man, so Audrey decided not to worry about it.

In the sky restaurant on the opposite side of the overpass, a woman in a white suit dress and high heels walked over to a table by the window.

A man in a suit was sitting by the table, holding a pair of binoculars and watching something outside the window.

"Mr. Yardley, it’s rare to see you. What brings you to invite me out today?" Clarissa Morgan put down her bag and elegantly sat down opposite Ivan Yardley.

Ivan Yardley continued looking through the binoculars, casually answering, "Of course, I’m here to discuss some collaboration with Miss Morgan."

"Ms. Irving sent you, didn’t she?" Clarissa asked with a smile.

Ivan: "I came on my own, just wanting to do something to please her."

Seeing Ivan Yardley continue to gaze outside with the binoculars, Clarissa also looked out, curious about what he was observing.

Ivan, noticing her curiosity, gestured for her to come over.

With a hint of puzzlement, Clarissa stood slightly and peered through the binoculars positioned by Ivan, and clearly saw the subject of the lens—Audrey.

Ivan said, "She’s quite a pretty girl, isn’t she?"

Clarissa sat back down and lightly smiled: "I suppose Mr. Yardley didn’t come today just to see a pretty face?"

Ivan put down the binoculars and picked up the teapot, pouring tea into a cup as he said, "Lan doesn’t like her."

Clarissa smiled silently, waiting for him to continue.

Ivan: "I know you don’t like her either, even considering her a thorn in your side."

"What clever plan does Mr. Yardley have to help me remove this thorn?"

"That will depend on whether Miss Morgan is willing to cooperate."

"I’m all ears."

Ivan chuckled and leaned in to whisper his plan to Clarissa, who replied, "Isn’t that method a bit too clumsy? And do you think Shane Warner won’t find out if you or I are involved?"

"Whether it’s clumsy or not doesn’t matter, what’s important is the result, right? Once the evidence is irrefutable, Shane and Audrey won’t be able to explain their way out no matter how hard they try."

Clarissa pondered, feeling this wasn’t a foolproof plan but seemed worth a try.

"Alright, let’s do it your way."

...

Audrey and Flora had dinner outside and bought some snacks for Shane Warner to eat as a late-night snack.

Remembering Shane Warner had reminded her to walk the dog, Audrey didn’t go directly to the company to find him.

First, she went home, leashed General, and prepared to walk to his company.

Audrey, with General in tow, walked on the pedestrian path on the right side of the bridge. Perhaps due to the cold, there were fewer night runners than in the summer.

Even the traffic was sparse, the river wind blowing quite cold. Audrey pulled her scarf up, covering half of her face, leaving only her eyes visible.

"Ding-dong—" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Shane Warner sent a voice message: "Have you finished shopping?"

Audrey glanced at her phone, couldn’t operate the touchscreen with her gloves on, and since she was almost there, she decided not to reply but quickened her pace.

Her gaze caught sight of a black car driving by her side on the road, slowing and stopping ahead of her. A man in a hoodie got out of the car.

Before she could react, a hand covered by a cloth was pressed against her mouth and nose.

Something was on the cloth, and after struggling briefly, Audrey lost consciousness...

"Woof-woof—" General chased the speeding vehicle a long distance but ultimately couldn’t catch up.

He anxiously circled the roadside twice and then ran straight towards the distant Starfield building...

"Knock-knock—" The door to the top-floor office was knocked.

Shane Warner’s voice rang out: "Enter."

"President Warner, it seems there’s a situation downstairs."

"What’s going on?"

"The reception said there’s a golden retriever in the lobby that won’t leave and keeps barking. Security says it seems to be your pet. Mrs. Warner previously brought it to the company a few times, but she’s not around today, and they don’t know what’s happening, so they called me to report to you."

Shane Warner frowned, glanced at his phone, saw no response to his earlier message, promptly closed his computer, and headed downstairs...
