Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 114: Personal Verification
Shane glanced at her with lowered eyes: "What are you doubting again?"
Audrey quickly denied: "No, I was just casually asking."
Shane coldly snorted, barely audible, and indeed didn’t explain further.
After a few steps, Audrey couldn’t hold back and asked him again: "Did she look for you?"
"Yes."
Shane’s straightforward answer left Audrey stunned, but after those two words, he offered no further explanation.
Audrey paused for two seconds and then tentatively asked: "What did she want from you?" 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
"What do you think?"
Audrey: "..."
If she had to guess, there could be many possibilities.
In a foreign land with just the two of them alone, considering Clarissa Morgan’s sneaky vixen-like demeanor, it’s even possible she’d lie on his bed without clothes.
No matter how restrained a man might be, facing such extreme temptation, there might not be many who could resist.
She still believed in her heart that Shane wouldn’t actively flirt with girls, but she wasn’t sure about women outside trying to seduce him, especially those like Clarissa Morgan blatantly looking for trouble.
"Have I ever mentioned it to you?"
"Huh?" Audrey was confused by his sudden statement.
He smirked mischievously, leaned slightly over to her ear and said: "I spend a lot of time on those things, and normally I only rest for half an hour at most, so I don’t have time to do those things you’re imagining."
Audrey immediately understood his underlying meaning, blushing and hardly believing he would say such things to her in a crowded place.
As they approached the parking lot, Audrey saw there weren’t many people around and quietly asked Shane: "...Have you ever done it?"
"No."
"...Then how do you know how long it takes?"
"Estimated, if you’re doubtful, you can verify it for yourself when we get back."
Audrey’s face flushed red, she stepped aside and glanced at him, mumbling: "You old rascal."
Whenever she mentioned the word "old," Shane’s face inevitably displayed a bit of discomfort.
Considering how long they hadn’t seen each other and the flowers she got for him, he didn’t hold it against her.
Shane only realized when he got home that the term "old" wasn’t the most frustrating.
This was probably the messiest his place had ever been.
Audrey saw him standing at the doorway with a stern face, surveying the room, and immediately realized the place was indeed too cluttered.
She quickly bent down to stuff the dirty socks by the door into a shoe, nervously explaining: "...Flora and the others just left for their holiday, so I haven’t had time to tidy up."
"Waiting for me to come back and clean?"
Hearing his chilly tone, Audrey didn’t dare speak, quickly changed her shoes and hurried to tidy the living room, the messy sofa, cluttered coffee table, and some sunflower seed shells scattered on the floor...
She glimpsed him out of the corner of her eye, carrying his luggage upstairs.
Audrey sighed silently in her heart.
Is he mentally giving her negative marks again?
Already tired from his business trip, only to come back to see the house in such disarray.
He probably thinks she’s not very good at housekeeping, imagining if he had a more capable wife, the house would be clean and comfortable when he returned.
Lamenting her own incompetence, fearing that if this goes on, he might really want a divorce to replace her with another wife.
In just a few minutes, he changed into casual home clothes and came downstairs.
Audrey wiped the coffee table and asked him: "Are you hungry? Should I make you a steak?"
He slightly frowned, activated the robotic vacuum cleaner with his phone, and then looked at her: "Go upstairs and tidy your own room."
Audrey hadn’t had time to respond, and her reaction was halted when the rag in her hand was taken away by him.
Watching him bend over to wipe the remaining half of the coffee table, Audrey quickly said: "You go rest first, I’ll handle this, you..."
"Go tidy your own room!" He interrupted her, emphasized with a firmer tone.
Audrey pouted a bit in grievance, not daring to say anything further, and quickly turned to run upstairs.
She tidied the bed, gathered the dirty clothes, and collected the snack bags and beer cans left from watching dramas with her friends last night.
No wonder he was so upset, if she were exhausted after a long day at work and came home to find the place like this, she wouldn’t be happy either.
After cleaning the garbage and putting the dirty clothes into the washing machine, she went downstairs to find the living room already neat and tidy, and saw him standing on the balcony outside talking on the phone.
General lay on the carpet near the balcony, while Pea comfortably nestled behind General.
Indeed, it looked much more pleasant this way.
She disposed of the trash and as she returned, Shane ended the call and walked in, telling her: "Grandpa is ill, pack up and go to the hospital with me."
Audrey was a bit stunned, thinking how the old man’s health was getting worse day by day, and visiting the hospital was becoming increasingly frequent, so she worriedly asked: "Is it serious?"
"Hard to say, just sent to the hospital."
On the way to the hospital, seeing Shane’s serious expression, Audrey felt a bad premonition.
Though hoping nothing bad would happen, aging is inevitable with life and death.
The elderly man was in the emergency room for over two hours and barely escaped life-threatening danger, but his condition wasn’t good, he was directly admitted to the intensive care unit.
Shane originally planned to clear time to accompany Audrey during this National Holiday, but due to Grandpa’s situation, they didn’t go anywhere.
Audrey was understanding, didn’t cause him any trouble, and showed even greater concern for him than before, worried that Grandpa’s issue might emotionally affect him, always comforting him by saying: "It’ll be alright, everything will get better."
Knowing these words were merely powerless consolation and self-deception, yet he still felt a sense of warmth.
Compared to the Warner family who were already discussing the division of Grandpa’s inheritance after his death, he found Audrey’s seemingly simple comfort extraordinarily gentle.
He himself felt quite calm inside, after his brother’s departure, his view on death seemed to become more indifferent.
Moreover, the elderly man being over ninety, often said himself he’s lived enough, satisfied, and these years incessantly plagued by illness, even if he passes, Shane wouldn’t feel too regretful.
Audrey might be thinking about her own aged grandparents, thus appearing even more sentimental than him.
After the National Holiday ended, Audrey returned to school.
Shane had just dropped her off at the teaching building when he received a call from the butler, saying the hospital issued a critical condition notice, suggesting the old man might not make it.
He glanced at Audrey walking towards the teaching building, worried it would affect her classes, he didn’t stop her, and drove straight to the hospital.
From walking from the teaching building to her classroom, Audrey overheard everyone discussing the same topic.
She listened confusedly, from the keywords roughly guessed, it seemed some celebrity had transferred to their school.
