Mr. Tycoon's Beloved Wife: The Madam No One Dares to Offend-Chapter 248: The Best Couple of the Year
Horton looked at her with a gentle smile on his face, and the dim light covered the joy in his eyes. Halle stared at him.
"Mr. Hutt, you are mistaken. We are just friends. I’m not jealous. I just think that Mr. Hutt’s behavior might disturb my life."
She was afraid that her peaceful life with Emily would be disturbed. And she was not jealous as Horton said.
She did not like him. So, why should she be jealous?
The smile on Horton’s face did not fade. It seemed that he had been used to her indifference. He still smiled and said, "Well, I know."
Halle furrowed her brows, "What does he know? Does Horton not understand what she said? Why doesn’t he seem to know her meaning?"
"Mr. Hutt..."
"You must be very tired carrying Emily for so long. And she will also feel uncomfortable. Let’s take her to the room first."
Horton’s voice was soft, and the quiet night seemed to be gentler.
This place was far away from the crowd, and there were no others nearby. It felt unusual for Halle to stay with Horton alone.
After all, they were both single. She felt uncomfortable to stand here with Horton.
Although she felt guilty and grateful to Horton, she was sure that she didn’t like him.
She would not deliberately get close to Horton because of Emily. Otherwise, she would just be like those women who used their children as a bargaining chip to get what they needed.
She herself had the ability to take care of Emily without the help of men.
Horton had changed the topic so easily, and Halle just agreed to his idea. She pursed her lips and carried Emily to the courtyard ahead.
Emily was already one and a half years old. Although she was not heavy, it was not an easy job to carry her for a long time.
Hilla had been waiting at the entrance of the courtyard the whole time. Alexa accompanied her for she was worried that Hilla would get injured. After all, she was pregnant now.
Soon, Hilla saw Halle coming over. Emily was in her arms and Horton followed Halle.
Although she was surprised that Horton would come here with Halle, Hilla didn’t seem too surprised. He just walked over quickly.
"Emily is asleep. Put her in the room first."
Before Halle came here, Hilla had already asked Alexa to clean up the room. So, Halle didn’t stop and went straight upstairs with Emily in her arms.
Horton was not in a hurry to leave. Instead, he stopped in the room and looked at Hilla. "You’ve been pregnant for more than two months, right?"
Hilla nodded. It was really hard for her recently because of her pregnancy. She was always very tired and uncomfortable. She was not in the mood to deal with Horton, so she let him stay here.
"I’ll go upstairs and take a look."
"I’ll go with you."
Horton said and was about to go upstairs with her. Hilla turned around and looked at Horton. "I’m afraid it’s not good."
No matter what was Bruce and Horton’s relationship, Horton was a man and Bruce was not here.
Even Hilla didn’t care, Halle was still a single woman.
Hearing that, Horton stopped and smiled. "Then I’ll wait for her here."
Hilla immediately knew that Horton was waiting for Halle. Was he going to tell her something in private? Hilla raised her eyebrows slightly but only nodded without a word. Then, she just went upstairs.
In the room, the small orange lamp on the bed was turned on. Halle put Emily on the bed and covered her with a thin sheet.
Hilla glanced at Emily, who had grown up a little, and said, "Horton is waiting for you downstairs."
He was still here?
Halle furrowed her brows and got up from her bed. "I’ll go downstairs for a while. Emily rarely wakes up at night. You should go back to your room to rest now."
Halle knew that Hilla had had a hard time recently, and her face was pale. She didn’t even go to Margaret’s engagement party in the front courtyard.
Hilla nodded. She knew that Halle said this because she didn’t want her to interfere in the matter between Halle and Horton. So, she just went back to her room.
Halle went downstairs and saw Horton sitting on the sofa, waiting for her. In front of him was a cup of coffee that the servant had just sent.
It was already so late, and drinking coffee would definitely cause insomnia, so Horton had no intention of drinking it.
"Mr. Hutt, do you have something to tell me?"
Halle sat across from Horton in a dignified manner. She didn’t sit near to him, nor was she rude to him.
Horton glanced at Halle. She was calm and self-restraint. She was always cold to him. He just couldn’t understand why she would hate him so much.
She had clearly said that she really appreciated his appearance. Could it be that because she had been tired of him and she didn’t appreciate him now?
"Yes!"
"What is it?"
"My family requests me to date another girl."
Horton said so directly, and Halle felt so strange. She suddenly looked at him.
Did this have anything to do with her?
"I know Mr. Hutt already has a girlfriend."
Halle replied softly.
Horton’s expression was still calm. "Do you hate me?"
"No."
"Since you don’t hate me, then why are you still so cold to me? We’ve known each other for so long. Is it because of that night two years ago? Can’t you just let it go?"
Halle never thought that after two and a half years, Horton would actually bring up that matter so bluntly to her.
She had to admit that she was in a panic at this moment.
She clenched her fists on her legs suddenly. When she looked into Horton’s eyes, Halle’s expression darkened even more. "It is because I can’t let it go that I have to keep a distance from you."
"Why?"
Horton asked, and Halle’s expression became even darker. "Because I don’t like you."
"You like your ex-husband?"
"This is my business and has nothing to do with you."
Halle responded coldly. She wanted to get up and escape for a moment.
All along, Horton was not like this. Halle was cold to him, and he was very sensible to keep a distance from her. She had thought that their frequent meeting was only because of Hilla and Bruce. Hilla got married to Bruce, and Horton and Bruce were relatives.
"Halle, I can’t wait any longer."
Horton suddenly said. His words were a bit abrupt, but he still smiled as if he had been waiting for this moment for a long time.
His eyes behind the glasses were exceptionally deep, and he stared at Halle. Halle raised her head and said blankly, "What did you say?"
Horton smiled more happily and his voice was so gentle. "I said I’ve liked you for a long time. I can’t wait any longer. I want to tell you."
...
Halle looked at the man opposite her. Horton’s eyes were very deep and dark. His eyes were long and thin. Generally, his eyes would make people feel that he was fickle. However, his pair of glasses made him look gentler.
She looked at Horton and tried to suppress the shock in her heart.
She did not want to show her interest, but she had to admit that she was really curious about it.
Horton said he had liked her for a long time.
When did he start liking her? Why did she not feel it at all?
Halle bit her lip and finally asked, "Why do you like me?"
She thought that she was not so beautiful. Although she was pretty, a young and rich doctor like Horton was surrounded by so many female nurses and doctors. She was not the best choice for him.
She was divorced, and she had a daughter with her.
"You already have a girlfriend, right?"
Halle thought of his words earlier and reminded him. Although she still looked calm, she was actually really nervous and puzzled.
She knew very well what kind of life she wanted to have in the future, but Horton’s words made her very agitated. Perhaps it was because he was Emily’s father, so his words made her feel particularly touched.
"Yes, I do have a girlfriend."
Horton’s response was very straightforward. Halle pursed her lips and said, "Since you already have a girlfriend, you should be responsible for your girlfriend. Don’t flirt with others. Moreover, I don’t like you."
Halle’s response was still very direct. A man and a woman could be together only when they liked each other. If she didn’t like him, then he should just let it go, or he was just being annoying.
"But I like you."
Halle got up and was about to go upstairs when she heard Horton’s voice. Halle stopped and said, "You should really feel sorry for your girlfriend. If I were your girlfriend, I would probably want to slap you right now."
Horton was stunned. He couldn’t believe that a gentle and polite woman like Halle would say these words.
This was the first time she was so emotional in front of him. Horton looked at Halle’s back and smiled.
Halle returned to her room and looked at Emily. Emily was sleeping soundly on the bed. Halle frowned slightly. This night, she was destined to be sleepless.
...
In the Anderson’s mansion, many people were here for the engagement party of Julian and Margaret.
Not only did the news of Julian and Margaret getting married spread very fast, but there were also photos of Julian and Margaret in the hotel at night.
In that photo, Margaret didn’t look well and she wore the suit of a man.
This photo indicated that they had been together secretly for a long time. And someone even suspected that they suddenly got engaged because Margaret had been pregnant.
When Margaret saw this news, she was so angry that she cursed inwardly.
Why those people would always maliciously guess something happened to the woman rather than the man.
Margaret stood next to Julian and took his arm reluctantly. Her smile was full of hypocrisy.
She was only doing this for the sake of the Anderson family.
If she escaped today, it was a disgrace to the Anderson family. So, she would not do such a thing. But when she thought of marrying Julian, she just felt very uncomfortable.
Now that she was with the man her sister-in-law had loved, should she be happy or sad about it?
"Let’s make a deal. I will only pretend to be getting along well with you today."
Margaret stood beside Julian and smiled gently. Those who didn’t know their relationship would think that they were a loving couple.
Julian glanced at her. He lowered his head and his lips brushed past her ear. He said in a low voice, "Nice try."
She just ran away in Far City, and he wouldn’t let her go so easily in River City.
Julian had his own idea. Even if Margaret wanted to pretend to be his fiance, he may not agree to cooperate with her.
"Are you in love with me? Stop dreaming. I have already seen through your thoughts. Don’t waste your time. I won’t listen to you."
They were really close and talked secretly as if there was no one else around.
Someone took a picture of them immediately.
Although reporters were not allowed here, there was still someone sneaking into the banquet to get some news of them.
Immediately, the photos of Julian and Margaret were exposed to the public.
Their extraordinary appearance and family background made them the best couple
of the year.
Margaret would probably be very angry if she saw the news.
In the corner of the banquet, a middle-aged woman walked to a man and tugged at his sleeve.
Titus stopped talking with the other businessmen and turned to look at Spring with displeasure. "Mom, what are you doing? It is a rare chance for me to talk to them. They are interested in my project."
Spring pulled Titus to the edge of the banquet. He felt really embarrassed and his expression darkened. But he still followed his mom.
Spring said angrily, "You can talk with them later. I just saw Halle. Someone of the Andersons followed her. Hilla seems to be pregnant. They have benefited so much from the Andersons, and their lives now were even much better than yours."
The more Spring thought about it, the angrier she got. If her son had not divorced Halle, then they would be in a good relationship with the Anderson family?
How would they sneak into the banquet with fake invitations? Her son would even be Bruce’s brother-in-law.
They had thought so much, but they did not expect that Hilla could get married to someone of the Anderson family after the Holt family’s bankruptcy.
"I just saw Halle go to the east courtyard. There is no one there. If you go there, it is highly possible for you to reconcile with her now."
"If it doesn’t work, you can just make some noise and let everyone know that Halle is your wife. And she wouldn’t be able to get rid of us in the future."
"Will Halle agree?"
"What are you afraid of? She is carrying your daughter."
Spring thought of the child in Halle’s arms and suddenly felt confident. Although she was just a child, she was still useful to the Tyson family. When Halle remarries Titus, Spring could use this girl to threaten Halle.
Titus’s expression changed. He looked a little embarrassed and said, "I’m afraid that Halle won’t agree to remarry me."
"If she doesn’t listen to us, we can just snatch that child over. She will definitely come to us and remarry you in the end."
Speaking of this, Spring seemed to have thought of something, and his expression changed. "It’s all because of you. Last time in the countryside, I said that we could just take that little girl home directly and let Halle come to us. But you insisted on sending her back. It was such a good opportunity. And now she has benefited so much in the Anderson family."
When he thought of the fact that Spring went to the countryside and took away Halle’s child secretly, Titus felt really nervous. They almost became kidnappers and went to prison. Fortunately, he stopped her and begged Halle to keep quiet.
Now he wondered whether Halle would agree if he asked her to remarry him last time.
