Mr. Hawthorne, Your Wife Wants a Divorce Again-Chapter 1101: No Need for Defective Products
"She’s right." Nathan Hawthorne nodded, a gentle smile playing on his elegant face, "The medication has been sent for analysis. Whether it’s real or fake, we’ll know once the results come out."
Ann Vaughn waved her hand, innocently saying, "Uncle, you’ve been acting unfamiliar these days, haven’t you? If you want the life-extension medicine, just say so. How can a daughter-in-law not give it to you? As long as you ask for it, forget the life-extension medicine; I’ll even make you the rejuvenation medicine!"
Nathan’s eyes flickered, his smile deepening, "Didn’t expect my daughter-in-law to be so sensible."
"It’s only right." Ann smiled bashfully, "Who makes me love Cyrus Hawthorne with a passion as eternal as mountains crumbling, seas drying up, and heaven witnessing? You’re his father, and since he’s not here now, I naturally need to honor you on his behalf!"
Beside them, Sherry’s lip curled.
She’s never seen someone talk so incessantly in her life.
It practically makes one want to hit her.
"Being with my unromantic son, I must say you’re hard done by." Nathan casually brushed off his shirt hem, speaking meaningfully, "How about I find you someone who knows how to care for people? How does that sound?"
Ann Vaughn: "?"
Uncle, are you alright?
Can you hear yourself talking??
Even breaking up your own son’s marriage, this father is truly ruthless.
"Uncle, you’re really humorous..." Ann chuckled dryly.
"You should really consider it. It’ll be tough for you to stay here a few more days. I’ll have them take good care of you."
Nathan stood up, gazing at Ann Vaughn with an extremely gentle look, without a trace of malice, making it hard for anyone to see him as a thoroughly villainous person.
Yet Ann Vaughan knew deep down, someone who possesses such a complex air cannot possibly harbor goodness in their heart, let alone be a good person.
Moreover, she hasn’t forgotten, the Zeus Base named her the "final sacrifice".
No matter how gentle Nathan’s attitude towards her might be now, it can’t change... that he wants her dead.
Wait a minute...
Ann suddenly recalled something, her heart lurching.
The imposter had found her in Wade Lowell’s dorm, doesn’t that mean Wade might be in trouble?!
...
Inside the base office.
For the matter of Wade Lowell and Ann Vaughn, Stephen and another professor were at odds, the deeper the debate, the deeper the conflict, until they had heated arguments, almost erupting into a fight.
"Wade hiding Ann Vaughn itself indicates a problem with his identity! You can’t just think everything he does is right because he’s talented and capable. What if he’s also disguising his identity and appearance just like Ann Vaughn?!"
"Ridiculous! Why can’t it be that Wade was enticed by Ann Vaughn’s charm? Didn’t you see the photo sent back by No. 89 where Ann Vaughn’s clothes were torn to shreds? And just before, didn’t you see whose clothes she was wearing? "
No. 89 is the code name for the fake Sherry. In the base, aside from researchers, others have no names, using numbers as codes.
Professor Kenway widened his eyes, as if discovering Stephen’s twisted logic for the first time, watched him with deep disappointment.
"To clear Wade Lowell of suspicion, you even say things that tarnish his reputation!"
"It’s not disgraceful at all, my Wade has always maintained a pristine lifestyle; there’s not even a female fly around him, so what if he breaks the rules occasionally? Unlike your disciple, wasn’t he secretly meeting Ann Vaughn in the grove the night before?" Stephen replied with a smile.
Professor Kenway’s disciple is none other than Josiah Keaton.
The principle of "emperors favor their eldest son, people’s love their youngest child" applies here.
Professor Kenway treats Josiah Keaton like his own grandson, unwilling to reprimand him, much less hear others say anything against him.
He immediately wanted to argue with Stephen again.
"Alright." Nathan, watching the drama unfold while sipping tea, finally intervened to stop them, "Whether Wade Lowell was swayed by Ann Vaughn’s charm, or has a disguised identity, a simple test will settle it."
Stephen calmed down at once, respectfully asking, "How do you suggest we test it?"
"Find someone to disguise themselves as Ann Vaughn and approach Wade Lowell." Nathan took a sip of tea, delivering the answer succinctly. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
...
As it turns out, Nathan Hawthorne is indeed ruthless.
He not only stopped anyone from keeping Ann Vaughn under surveillance but didn’t restrict her movements either. As long as she didn’t leave the core laboratory’s area, she was free to roam anywhere.
It almost felt like...
A final concession to a dying person.
Ann couldn’t help but shiver, taking advantage when Sherry—no, it should be No. 89—wasn’t watching her, she quietly left to sneak into Wade Lowell’s lab.
As she pushed open the lab door, the scene of Wade Lowell embraced with a seductive woman hit Ann Vaughn’s line of sight.
Wade seemed to hear the sound and turned to look at Ann Vaughn, his deep eyes as calm as the sea, devoid of any emotion.
Ann stood stunned for a long time, her brain seeming to freeze, only reacting after a long moment.
"Uh...sorry for interrupting." She stepped back two steps, then turned around and quickly left.
Wade watched her hurriedly departing back, frowning, not immediately chasing after her.
The woman laughed coquettishly, running her fingers over Wade’s shoulder and lifting her lips, "Dr. Locke, the unwelcome guest is gone, shall we continue?"
As those alluring red lips neared Wade’s chin with only a centimeter remaining, they were suddenly blocked.
—blocked by a board eraser.
The woman had powdered chalk all over her mouth, her eyes wide in disbelief.
"You..."
"Let’s continue." Wade pushed up his silver-rimmed glasses with one hand, his cold gaze falling on the female researcher, as if a layer of ice had formed.
Unaware, the woman ignored the chalk dust in her mouth, bashfully snuggling closer to Wade.
Wade half-smiled, the scalpel in his fingers gleaming coldly.
Elsewhere.
Ann had just left Wade’s lab when she collapsed on the ground. Thankfully, she was discovered in time and taken back to Wade’s lab for medication.
Yet Wade refused.
Ann’s body was weakened, and as a test subject, she couldn’t hold out until Wade’s experiment was finished; he needed new subjects.
In other words, Ann had been abandoned by him.
The subordinates immediately reported this matter upwards.
Stephen couldn’t have imagined, after sending someone to test Wade, it was like gifting him a new test subject, effectively pushing Ann out.
It must be known, those injected with the Class S drugs will perish within a week if injections are halted.
Wade’s simple "don’t need defects" sealed Ann’s fate.
Doomed to die.
