Mr. Hawthorne, Your Wife Wants a Divorce Again-Chapter 1028: Eating You, Little Girl
This almost made Ann Vaughn’s ears tingle with numbness. She was sunk in the soft bed, recalling those nights of frenzied entwinement, her whole body shivering as she shrank back.
"I-I’m still a kid, you-you’re breaking the law..."
Cyrus Hawthorne wasn’t upset by her words at all. His slightly cool palm slid upwards from under her clothing as his thin lips curved into a particularly alluring smile.
With a little pressure, he caught hold of those jade-like soft curves.
"So what? I just love this little kid."
Ann Vaughn’s cheeks were flushed, the pink spreading all the way to her fair neck. She unconsciously kicked her calf, whimpering softly.
"Cyrus Hawthorne, you’re bullying me again!"
Cyrus bowed his head, gently kissing the misty eyes. "Be good, I care for you."
...
After all, she hadn’t forgotten she had to attend the seminar today. Ann Vaughn, exhausted to the point where she couldn’t open her eyes, still struggled to get out of Cyrus Hawthorne’s embrace, floating like a ghost to wash up and change clothes, before heading downstairs together.
Cyrus Hawthorne dropped Ann Vaughn off at Imperial University, arranging a pick-up time before driving away.
Ann Vaughn hurried to the designated spot as quickly as possible, thankful she wasn’t late.
The people in the venue were already preparing, and since Ann Vaughn entered from the back, she didn’t attract much attention.
However, in a corner at the very edge, two girls hadn’t taken their eyes off her since she entered.
"Are you sure it’s her?"
"I heard Professor Wagner and Dean Hale mentioning her on a call, it’s definitely her."
"Are you kidding? She’s not a student of our university, just a mediocre traditional Chinese medicine practitioner. Why would Dean Hale recruit her into The National Research Institute?!"
"Who cares about ability or education? Her man is powerful enough to get her in through the back door anytime."
"Disgusting, after this seminar, I’m definitely reporting this to the university, we can’t let someone like her ruin everything..."
Due to the distance, Ann Vaughn naturally didn’t hear their conversation, but she vaguely sensed a few unfriendly gazes fixed on her.
However, she had no time to dwell on it, as a gray-haired professor took to the podium, and the seminar quickly began.
The front row of the venue was filled with renowned experts in the medical field, any tidbit of their experience would be enough to benefit the audience for a lifetime.
Ann Vaughn had no energy to focus on anything else, putting all her attention on the podium.
She utterly failed to notice the disdainful glances occasionally thrown her way from the other side.
As noon approached, the seminar came to an end.
As Ann Vaughn exited the venue, she found the outside air hot and dry, quickly causing a sheen of fine sweat on her forehead, though her bright eyes sparkled with excitement.
Just as she was about to walk down the steps and leave, someone called out to her.
Two girls approached Ann Vaughn. The girl in the red dress to the right had an especially unfriendly gaze.
"Are you Ann Vaughn?"
"Is something wrong?" Ann Vaughn slightly raised her eyes, her clear gaze looking towards the girl.
"Let me give you a piece of advice - if you don’t have the ability, don’t covet things you don’t deserve. Those lacking in virtue will be struck by lightning." The red dress girl warned coldly.
During the seminar, the girl in the red dress had been keeping an eye on Ann Vaughn.
While the professor lectured on stage, she took notes.
During discussions, she took notes.
During the clinical simulation, she took notes.
How could someone who only knows rote learning, with no hands-on skills, be qualified to enter The National Research Institute, which is a dream for the students at Imperial University’s medical department? 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
The words of the red dress girl seemed nonsensical, and Ann Vaughn looked at her exasperatedly.
"Classmate, you’ve got the wrong person."
"What, you had the guts to get into The National Research Institute through the back door, but not to admit it?" The red dress girl stepped forward with a face full of sarcasm. "Do you know how many people would die for the opportunity you stole? How do you get into The National Research Institute? Just because you can trade your body for benefits, while others cannot?!"
"Slap—"
With that crisp loud slap, the red dress girl’s face turned to the side, a bright red handprint appearing on her left cheek.
The red dress girl’s companion screamed and was about to rush up when Ann Vaughn gave her a cold look, stopping her in her tracks.
"You... you dare hit me?!" The red dress girl held her face, her eyes filled with disbelief and resentment, nearly tearing up.
"I just hit you, no need to inform you beforehand, right?" Ann Vaughn flicked her hand, her red lips curving in a cool smile. "I don’t know where you heard those absurd rumors trying to make yourself feel important here, but let me tell you, it’s not about the back door. Even if it were the front door of The National Research Institute, I have the qualifications to enter, whether I want to or not."
"Secondly, instead of picking a fight with me, maybe you should focus more on your studies. Truly capable individuals never complain about others stealing their opportunities. Only those who lack ability jump up and down, wishing the world revolved around them."
Ann Vaughn’s words were sharp and pointed, leaving the two girls’ faces red.
The red dress girl’s nails nearly dug into her flesh, wishing she could throw the book in her hand at Ann Vaughn’s calm face.
However, before she could do so, a probing male voice interrupted her.
"Professor Vaughn?"
Professor Vaughn?
This title made Ann Vaughn pause for a second, hesitantly turning around.
A tall, clean-cut young man jogged up from the bottom of the steps.
Seeing who it was, the red dress girl’s anger quickly subsided, she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, then offered a shy smile while greeting him.
"Senior, you..."
Before the red dress girl finished, the young man walked right past her and approached Ann Vaughn.
The smile on the red dress girl’s face instantly froze.
"Hello, Professor Vaughn. I’m Carl Rhodes, a student in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department at Imperial University. I was fortunate enough to attend a few of your lectures, which left a lasting impression and have greatly benefited me."
The young man who walked with such confidence earlier was now awkwardly shy in front of Ann Vaughn, his eyes almost twinkling as if seeing his idol.
Carl Rhodes?
Taken her class before?
Looking at this unfamiliar face, Ann Vaughn had no recollection in her mind.
"Sorry, I don’t really remember."
"No worries, no worries! There were so many students attending your lectures back then that even an auditorium couldn’t hold them all. It makes sense you wouldn’t remember me." Carl scratched his head. "Actually, I was forced by my parents back then to choose the Traditional Chinese Medicine major, but I wasn’t really interested. I was just going through the motions, drifting along every day."
