Mr. Hawthorne, Your Wife Wants a Divorce Again-Chapter 1013: Miss Vaughn Suddenly Disappeared!
Inside the study.
Two cups of coffee on the desk emit wisps of white steam, and occasionally the sound of pages turning can be heard from the sofa on one side.
Until the last page was turned, Eli Sheridan’s expression was as cold as ice, "Twenty-seven ambush points, all distributed in places Annie could pass by every day. What exactly are they trying to do?"
Even the two villas around number 16 were used by those people as surveillance posts for Miss Vaughn. Fortunately, they were discovered early and were eliminated by Hex and his team.
However, the remaining twenty-five ambush points were not removed on Cyrus Hawthorne’s orders.
"You, as the eldest son of the Sheridan Family, should be very clear about Annie’s uniqueness," Cyrus Hawthorne said, picking up his coffee. "Their goal is not just about her special genes, but also to acquire some biological treasures like the Phoenix Bone and the Mermaid Tear for the Sheridan Family."
To sacrifice his sister for some nebulous rumors?
Eli Sheridan’s gaze turned cold. What did they think of themselves?
"The base mentioned in the document, I actually have seen it before." Eli Sheridan placed the final page of the document on the desk, speaking coldly, "It’s located in the Marla Desert, in a place satellites can’t pinpoint, where they conduct some kind of medical research, closely tied with J Country, considered under its protection."
This also means that it’s not easy for their men to get close to that base.
"You’ve been inside?" Cyrus raised his eyebrows.
Eli nodded, "Once there was a parachute jump over Marla, accidentally caught in a sandstorm into the desert, and just happened to land near that base."
With the mindset of "might as well since I’m here," Eli naturally wouldn’t just leave without doing anything.
"They didn’t notice your infiltration?"
"Probably not, otherwise there’s no way I’d walk out alive from that base," Eli said, "I still roughly remember the base’s location, so I sketched out the geography and the internal structure once I returned."
Upon mentioning this, Eli suddenly frowned, "If necessary, I wouldn’t mind infiltrating it again."
Among outsiders, he was the only one who had set foot in that base and came out unscathed.
Obviously, there was no better candidate than him.
"No need." Cyrus rejected his proposal without hesitation, "My people are more than capable of handling such trivial matters."
Times have changed; the risk of infiltrating the base is too high, and if Eli encounters even the slightest mishap...
The heartless little thing would go all out against him.
Eli naturally did not insist, especially since Wilder Sheridan’s health had not yet recovered, leaving him feeling uneasy.
"By the way... Cyrus Hawthorne, the reason you left those remaining twenty-five ambush points, was it to use their hand in controlling future movements?" Eli suddenly asked.
"Yes."
"Aren’t you afraid of losing control and playing with fire?"
When asking this, Eli’s voice grew cold.
If Cyrus couldn’t control those people, it would be Ann Vaughn who ultimately suffered!
Cyrus placed the coffee cup back on the desk, his voice devoid of emotion, "I never fight battles I’m not confident in."
"Hopefully you do as you say." Eli stood up, fastening the open buttons on his suit jacket, and said to Cyrus, "Then I’ll take Annie back first."
Cyrus’s lips curved slightly, "I’m afraid not."
"Hmm?"
"Given the current situation, is there anywhere safer than Annie being by my side?"
"..."
Eli’s mouth twitched, "You’re doing this on purpose."
He had to suspect that Cyrus had calculated today all along and that leaving those twenty-five ambush points was essentially to prevent him from taking Ann Vaughn back.
Right at that moment, someone knocked on the study room door.
"Enter."
Sept walked in, standing respectfully before Cyrus, yet his voice carried a subtle tremor, "Sir, Miss Vaughn... has suddenly disappeared!"
A living person somehow vanished without a trace in the room amidst their tight security.
This was not only a dereliction of duty by all Hidden Guards but also an unprecedented massive failure.
Had he not lost at rock-paper-scissors, Sept wouldn’t have dared to face Cyrus’s wrath...
Unexpectedly, Cyrus did not show any anger on his face, his cool gaze shifted toward Eli, letting out a light chuckle as he spoke: "You certainly came prepared."
Eli crossed his arms over his chest, shrugged, "If your sister were to act pitifully and plead with you, could you reject any of her requests?"
If he remembered correctly, Cyrus also had a sister.
Cyrus stood up, his gaze sharp and penetrating as it locked onto Eli, "Where is she?"
"Rest assured, she’s very safe now; whenever she wishes to return, she will naturally come back." Eli smiled like a fox, "Besides your side, there’s another person’s side that’s equally safe."
Meanwhile.
Red Queen Town, Seaside Ranch.
A vast expanse of emerald green grassland echoed with the deep blue sea, creating a mesmerizing scene akin to a heavenly paradise.
After last night’s rain, today’s weather was just right; the sunlight wasn’t harsh, making it a perfect time for a walk.
Ann Vaughn walked from the far end of the ranch to the closest point to the shore, hands behind her back, taking in deep breaths of sea air laced with moisture, feeling so comfortable that she almost drifted into sleep.
"Ma, Mommy—"
A soft, surprised cry suddenly sounded behind her, instantly clearing away Ann Vaughn’s drowsiness.
She turned around, and the faint smile on her lips disappeared completely.
Not far away, a mighty sheepdog was racing across the grassland, tongue out, flapping in the wind, looking extremely joyful.
And on the back of this sheepdog... rode a chubby Little Dumpling.
The Little Dumpling hadn’t anticipated the dog would take off with him, so his little hands tightly clutched the dog’s neck, afraid of being flung off.
The shepherds on the field couldn’t help but burst into hearty laughter at the scene.
Ann Vaughn wanted to laugh too, but seeing the one being carried off was her little darling, she couldn’t laugh, hurrying forward to intercept.
After painstakingly rescuing the Little Dumpling from the sheepdog, it refused to leave, circling the Little Dumpling, tongue out, a look begging for affection.
Being prodded by the sheepdog, the Little Dumpling wriggled his small bottom, quite annoyed.
"Don’t ever carry me again! I won’t let you do it!"
Daring to ambush him while he’s off guard!
"Woof..." The sheepdog barked softly, seemingly feeling lost.
"Playing pitiful won’t work!"
"Bark, bark..."
Watching the sheepdog feigning pity at the Little Dumpling’s feet, with the Little Dumpling’s face full of disdain, Ann Vaughn laughed until her stomach hurt.
