Mr. Grant Treats Me Like a Treasure-Chapter 548 - 547: Humiliating Claire Sullivan
"Why don’t we have a competition? Whoever’s design drafts satisfy both my husband and me within the set deadline, will be selected..."
Mrs. Preston suggested, not wanting to offend Mrs. Sterling, and trusting Mindy’s taste.
"Alright." Before Mrs. Preston could finish, Mrs. Sterling smiled and agreed. She turned to look at the piano beside her, speaking slowly, "Let’s have a piano contest instead."
"See whose performance pleases everyone’s ears." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"This isn’t about choosing a pianist."
Mindy objected, supporting Mrs. Preston’s suggestion.
Serena was her favored student, and Felicity had studied with her for many years. Both relied on their skills to speak for themselves, which was convincing.
Mrs. Sterling didn’t respond to Mindy. She lowered her head to look at Serena, her smile deepening, "Playing the piano relies on fingers, doesn’t require the feet."
The hidden insult in this sentence was recognized by everyone.
"Sister-in-law!"
Mindy called out displeased.
Since marrying Simon, Mrs. Sterling had always been gentle and graceful. Mindy had never seen her speak with such a sharp tongue.
Perhaps this was the true daughter of the Ford Family.
Mrs. Sterling wasn’t angry, still smiling at Serena. "I heard Miss Sullivan’s mother plays the piano very well."
"Apparently, during university, her major was the piano."
"You’re her daughter, your skill should be better than Felicity’s."
"Hmm."
Serena raised a smile and responded to Mrs. Sterling.
This one-word response could be seen as addressing the past of Claire Sullivan or admitting she plays better than Felicity, depending on one’s perspective.
In Mrs. Sterling’s view, Serena was responding to the latter half of the statement.
"Then let’s hear a performance for everyone."
Mrs. Sterling’s tone shifted upward, a hint of coolness seeping through.
"Your mother is indeed remarkable! After all these years, you can still return to The Sterling Family."
The sarcasm was even more intense in this statement, reminding everyone of Serena’s identity.
At The Sterling Family’s banquet, Serena appeared as James’s illegitimate daughter, implying Claire was the mistress he had found outside.
The ladies present, all first wives, naturally looked down on mistresses and the children they bore.
After Mrs. Sterling spoke, the disdain in the eyes directed at Serena became apparent.
Mindy hadn’t expected the usually gentle and intellectual Mrs. Sterling to become a different person, constantly mocking Serena and Claire Sullivan in Solaria.
Mindy, close to Simon, knew the truth about Claire’s supposed status as a mistress.
If it weren’t for the fiasco involving June Kane and the Ford Family, Claire would have long been Simon’s wife.
"Is Mrs. Sterling very familiar with my mother?"
Serena retorted calmly, smiling as she conversed with Mrs. Sterling.
"We were in the same school over twenty years ago."
Claire Sullivan, naive, hypocritical, vicious! These were words Mrs. Sterling truly wished to express.
"Oh!"
Serena replied, "There’s something I’m quite curious about."
"How did my mom, while studying at university, come to know the esteemed Mr. Sterling?"
Here, Serena deliberately didn’t call Mr. Sterling "Dad!"
"Was it because of your uncle?"
Mrs. Sterling’s expression shifted, sensing what Serena was about to discuss.
"Your mom’s tactics are so impressive, how would I know how she hooked up with your dad!"
Claire Sullivan had gotten involved with Simon under her nose, and when she learned of it, the two were already inseparable.
To have the man she liked for so many years end up with another woman — the unwillingness, the anger, was beyond imagination!
"Oh!" Serena remained calm, elongating her tone in response.
