Mr. Grant Treats Me Like a Treasure-Chapter 508: Heartache
First Mrs. Sterling isn’t foolish. She took the wheelchair James Sterling was pushing, moved forward, and stopped in front of Mrs. Sterling, smilingly saying to everyone, "I just let everyone have a laugh."
After saying that, she turned her head to glance at Mrs. Sterling, laughing coldly, "Just as you said, I have such a wonderful daughter, as I hoped."
This was an indirect admission of Serena Sullivan’s identity.
The inconsistent attitude of First Mrs. Sterling made everyone bewildered. Regardless, the illegitimate daughter in the wheelchair was accepted by The Sterling Family and would replace Felicity Sterling to become the family’s eldest daughter.
After James Sterling’s family left, the old master also claimed he wasn’t feeling well, leaving the subsequent party to Mr. Sterling to host.
The guests thought Mr. Sterling was busy with work and would let Mrs. Sterling help oversee things.
He didn’t. He socialized with the guests until the end.
Everything seemed calm. Mr. Sterling returned to his previous aloof demeanor, with his perfect face showing no sign of abnormality, but Mrs. Sterling was aware that everything changed from the moment Serena Sullivan entered the front door of The Sterling Family.
The guests at the party were very astute; what should be said and what shouldn’t wouldn’t be uttered within The Sterling Family.
Once it ended and they stepped out the door, they started discussing everything about The Sterling Family party.
For example, Nancy Sterling’s legs?
For example, who her mother was? 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
And for example, Simon Sterling’s strange attitude?
So much, a single party was enough for people to continuously dig deeper, unknowingly leading someone to uncover events from twenty years ago, with the Imperial Capital also becoming less peaceful because of The Sterling Family party.
Serena Sullivan was brought to Deepwood by James Sterling and his wife.
The couple ran a restaurant outside, held shares in The Sterling Corporation with dividends, had two excellent young sons who each started their own companies.
The family was harmonious but developed many conflicts upon learning James Sterling had an illegitimate daughter.
Eldest Master Sterling and Second Master Sterling had matters to attend to, and didn’t go to the party. They received a phone call saying James Sterling brought someone back to Southwood, arriving home first to wait.
The door opened, revealing First Mrs. Sterling pushing Serena Sullivan inside. The two looked at each other and froze.
"How come it’s like this? Legs are ruined?"
Second Master Sterling spoke first.
Serena Sullivan followed the question, glanced at her own legs, long accustomed to others’ peculiar stares, remaining the same in the Imperial Capital.
No answer was given as James Sterling’s harsh voice retorted behind.
"What nonsense are you spouting!"
"Dad, you really did something to betray mom!"
James Sterling’s anger made Eldest Master Sterling and Second Master Sterling believe this truly was their half-sister. They hurriedly turned to First Mrs. Sterling, simultaneously stepping aside, afraid the couple would fight and harm the innocent.
Looking up again, at the wheelchair-bound and inconvenient Serena Sullivan, they thought of stepping forward to bring her to the wall.
"This is your sister!"
First Mrs. Sterling approached with a calm tone, just as aggressively as she questioned James Sterling at the party; she reprimanded her two sons, "Others may call her cruel, but you cannot!"
As she spoke, First Mrs. Sterling turned her body and met Serena Sullivan’s eyes.
No wonder she felt a sense of familiarity the first time she saw her.
It turned out this child resembled Simon Sterling, looked incredibly like Wyatt Sterling.
The matters concerning Simon Sterling were unknown to outsiders but clear to The Sterling Family.
Over twenty years ago, First Mrs. Sterling had married into The Sterling Family, bore two sons, and was quite clear about Simon Sterling’s past sorrowful love story.
Seeing Serena Sullivan again, First Mrs. Sterling felt no anger but an indescribable heartache and discomfort.
