Chapter 770: 766, gone

Melody Zachary staggered back involuntarily, managing not to fall only because she was steadying herself against the corridor wall. She hadn’t intended to eavesdrop; it was just that her room was inside the corridor.

A tear fell, and no wonder her son was angry and hardly spoke to her.

The corners of her mouth lifted in a self-deprecating smile. Recently, in an effort to win back her husband’s heart, she had been like a chef, getting up early every day to prepare breakfast, going to the supermarket during the day, and then busying herself with making dinner...

She knew Oliver Shaw liked her cooking and watching him enjoy the meals filled her with joy. But now she finally understood that once a man’s heart changes, no effort can pull him back.

Raising her hand to wipe the tears from her face, Melody Zachary smiled and walked toward her room.

...

When Mia Foster came out from the bathroom, Felix Shaw had already returned to the bedroom, the television in the living room still on.

Mia turned off the TV and entered the bedroom as well.

The chandelier wasn’t turned on; only a bedside lamp was left on. Felix was lying on the far side of the large bed, his back to the door, leaving the thin blanket for Mia, wearing an old pajama.

Walking to the bed, Mia placed the newly bought pajama on the bed, "Felix, are you asleep?"

"Hmm..." Felix did not move, making a nasal sound in reply.

As Mia towelled her hair, she said, "Get up and change into the pajamas before you sleep." It was their wedding night, and the bright red pajamas were meant for the celebration.

"I’m tired, I’ll change tomorrow."

Mia...

Feeling somewhat uncomfortable with Felix’s perfunctory attitude, she still suppressed her emotions and lightly said while looking at Felix’s back, "Felix, do you know what day it is today?"

She could understand not taking a bath together, but how could he not even be willing to change into the new pajamas?

"Ah..." Felix sighed, sat up and, in front of Mia, took off his pajama and then put on the new one, a dark red color which was very festive. However, there was no trace of joy on Felix’s face, instead, he seemed reluctant.

After changing, he lay back on the bed, facing away from Mia and towards the edge of the bed.

Mia pursed her lips, put down the towel, and lay on the bed as well, pulling the blanket over them and moved closer to Felix. From behind, she hugged Felix, her hand slipping inside his pajama lapel, her fingertips gently caressing his chest, "Felix..."

Felix had little reaction; he took Mia’s hand and turned it around, holding her loosely in his arms, one hand holding her wrist, the other gently patting her back, saying, "Let’s sleep, it’s been a tiring day."

Although disappointed, Mia still said softly, "Okay," and then nestled into Felix’s embrace and closed her eyes.

The next morning, when they had ordered takeout, just as they were laying the food on the table, Felix’s phone rang. It was Oliver Shaw calling, and it rang for a long time before Felix answered.

As soon as the phone reached his ear, Oliver’s anxious voice came through, "Felix, your mom is missing!" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Missing? Where did she go?" Felix instinctively asked.

"...I don’t know, it seems she left last night, took some clothes... Didn’t she go to your place?"

Felix...

Angered by his father’s vague attitude, Felix immediately raised his voice in displeasure, "Dad, mom is your wife! Don’t you care when she left and where she went?"

Oliver rubbed his temple, "That’s why I called you, out of concern for her,"

Felix scoffed, "I know, thank you on behalf of mom for your concern!" With that, he hung up the phone.
