Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride-Chapter 690 - 686, is also a secular woman
"You’re checking up on me!"
"So what if I am? You are my fiancé, and I have the right to know your every move," Mia Foster raised her eyes to meet Felix Shaw’s chilling gaze, her slightly raised eyebrows showing her unyielding courage. "Of course, you can also check up on me."
Facing the woman’s matter-of-fact demeanor, Felix suddenly let out a cold laugh, "I’m not interested in you."
As her assertive emotions slowly subsided, Mia narrowed her beautiful eyes slightly, "Felix Shaw, what do you mean? That night, if it weren’t for that phone call!"
"What about that phone call? Even if something did happen, it’s nothing extraordinary, we’re all adults," Mia hadn’t finished speaking when Felix interrupted her, his head slightly tilted and his lips crooked in an evident sneer.
"You said there were no other women by your side!" Mia, a woman of her word, took things seriously when she committed to them, expecting Felix to be the same.
As Mia stopped talking, Felix let out another snort of laughter, his long fingers gripping a wine glass as he eyed her, casually licking his thin lips, "You actually believe a man’s words."
A confident woman with equal self-respect, being ridiculed in such a manner was an unfamiliar situation for Mia. Holding Felix’s clearly mocking gaze, her eyes tightened, and suddenly she lowered her gaze to put down the wine glass, grabbed her bag beside her, and stood up, "Thank you for the dinner."
Having said that, she turned and left.
Watching Mia striding away with her head held high, Felix scoffed, raised his wine glass to down the remaining half in one gulp, then snapped his fingers and called, "Waiter!"
This woman who checks up behind others’ backs is really annoying. I used to think she was generous and rational, but it turns out she’s just another trivial woman.
Leaving the restaurant, Mia didn’t rush home. She walked alone on the street, swinging her handbag absentmindedly, her gaze lowered, watching her own footsteps, her lips pursed in concentration.
She liked Felix, love at first sight from those photos spread across the office desk. She adored his rebellious edge, the hint of mischief in his smile. As a boringly serious woman, she sought a lively man to complement her.
However, her affection was supposed to be based on respect and trust. She could give unconditionally for him but did not expect her devotion to be met with his mockery.
If he could not reciprocate her openness, then she would rather not have these stirring emotions.
Just as she had said before, if she couldn’t win his heart in a year, regardless of her deep love, she would cut her losses!
She was that practical, whether in business or in love.
Walking along the street, Mia suddenly looked up into the night sky and took a deep breath. Perhaps the engagement party was too impulsive. She started with full confidence. In her career, there was no challenge she couldn’t face, but now, she hesitated, wanting to retreat.
Back home, Mia discussed her decision with her parents. She wanted to break off the engagement, while she wasn’t too deeply involved yet.
"Mia, this isn’t child’s play, you can’t just call off an engagement like this. The whole city knows about our families’ alliance. How will this affect Shaw Family’s standing among their friends?" Evelyn Bailey disapproved, in the business world an alliance wasn’t just about mutual benefits, sometimes it was about saving face.
