Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 355: He Had A Fever
Chapter 355: Chapter 355: He Had A Fever
Little by little, she stopped caring. She lost the energy to keep trying, and naturally, she stopped listening to him.
"Thank you for helping me just now, Mr. Wilson," Chantelle mumbled as she was no longer fighting back.
Daniel suddenly felt sad after he heard her words. He knew he shouldn’t have brought up the past. But if he kept avoiding it, it would always create a huge gap between them like an unfinished business.
"In the past, you used to enjoy it every time we did it, didn’t you? Why don’t you like it now?" Daniel whispered, acting like he didn’t notice her reaction.
Chantelle was starting to lose her patience. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
Daniel looked at her for a long moment, then turned and walked into the bathroom.
Chantelle let out a breath of relief. She was about to leave when her phone rang. It was Philip.
"Chantie, you need to stay by Daniel’s side," Philip said. "He’s not doing well both physically or mentally."
"What do you mean?" Chantelle asked.
"He’s not well. After you gave him the sedative, he forced me to fight the effects of the drug. All that stress and strain messed up his body. He might not even be fully aware right now. You have to stay with him. If not, something serious could happen."
Chantelle glanced toward the bathroom and asked, "Then why isn’t he avoiding me anymore?"
"Because he took the medicine. He doesn’t need to keep his distance now. But it’s complicated. Just keep an eye on him, especially over the next few days. If he makes it through this, he should recover. But if he gets a fever, take him to the hospital right away."
Chantelle could tell from Philip’s voice how worried he was. ƒrēenovelkiss.com
They had finally developed a drug to fight the virus in Daniel’s body. But back then, Daniel’s condition was bad, and the sedative made it worse. That’s why he couldn’t take the medicine immediately.
But Daniel had acted like a madman. He insisted on taking the medicine, regardless of the circumstances. When they tried to stop him, he injected himself in secret and nearly died.
They were able to save him, but he didn’t even stay in the hospital for an hour. He snuck out when Philip and his team were busy.
Chantelle didn’t know everything, but from the panic in Philip’s voice, she could tell Daniel’s condition was serious. No wonder he said all those strange things earlier.
Suddenly, a cough came from the bathroom.
At first, it was soft and suppressed, but it quickly grew louder and more violent.
Chantelle rushed to the door, opened it, grabbed a towel, and wrapped it around Daniel’s waist. Then she helped him out of the bathroom.
By the time Daniel was lying on the bed, the coughing had stopped. But Chantelle couldn’t take her eyes off the blood in his palm.
"I’ll get a doctor," she said, her eyes brimming with tears as she stood up.
Daniel grabbed her hand. "No need. The medicine is in my suitcase."
Chantelle looked around and noticed the suitcase in the corner. The bodyguards must have brought it here earlier.
She opened it and found a small bottle. "Is this the one?" she asked.
Daniel nodded. After taking the medicine, he started to look better.
"I told you we’d go home with the kids after finishing things here. Why did you come? They’re my children. Do you think I’d sell them?"
Chantelle’s heart tightened. She couldn’t stop thinking about the side effects Philip had mentioned.
Daniel didn’t say a word, but the way he looked at her was soft and full of emotion. It was as if his eyes were saying he came here because he was afraid she wouldn’t go back.
"Are you still not going to tell me what’s really going on?" Chantelle asked. "Does it have something to do with the explosion at Trenton’s research center?"
She had sensed something wasn’t right about the way he kept his distance.
But back then, she couldn’t think clearly. She kept imagining he had found someone else.
Daniel knew he couldn’t hide it any longer. He finally told her the truth.
He admitted that he accidentally caused the explosion at Trenton’s research center while trying to steal the medicine for her. In the process, he was infected with an unknown virus.
The virus had badly affected his body, that’s why he had stayed away from her.
This time, he forced himself to take the medicine, even though his body couldn’t handle it. He just wanted to find her as soon as he could.
But he didn’t regret it. If he had come any later, something terrible might have happened to her.
"Why do you have to do this?" Chantelle turned away, trying to hold back her tears.
"I didn’t do it to make you feel guilty," Daniel said softly. "And I’m not trying to get your sympathy. I did it because I wanted to. I just hoped you’d never find out."
He reached up to wipe her tears.
As soon as his hand touched her cheek, Chantelle grabbed it. She felt his warmth.
He was burning up.
He had a fever!
Daniel’s fever kept getting worse. At first, he tried to argue with Chantelle for bringing the kids to Carcosa without telling him, but soon he couldn’t even speak clearly.
Chantelle tried calling Philip, but he was on a flight to Carcosa, and his phone was off.
"Mommy, Daddy is shivering!" Stephanie shouted.
The three kids were supposed to be getting ready for bed, but Railer felt something was wrong. So he brought them secretly to the door to check.
After watching for a while, the kids saw Chantelle calling Philip and Russell in a panic. Their dad was lying in bed with his face burning red.
Without hesitating, the three children walked into the room to help take care of him.
Chantelle quickly put down her phone and checked on Daniel.
His body temperature kept changing. He was sweating so much that the sheets were soaked.
She lifted him onto the sofa, wiped him down, and changed the bed sheets.
"Ms. Chantelle, I think you should find William," Russell said over the phone. "He developed most of the drugs at Trenton’s research center. We’ve confirmed the virus in Mr. Wilson’s body."
William had been Xander’s schoolmate. Chantelle met him through Xander and later introduced him to Trenton.
After she broke ties with Trenton, William stayed at the research center and buried himself in his work. They never talk to each other since then.
"Got it. Tell Calvin and Ashton to manage our businesses in Easthan," Chantelle said. She knew Trenton wouldn’t leave Daniel alone, so they had to keep everything under control in Easthan until he recovered.
She then contacted the doctor who had once operated on Lone Wolf to care for Daniel.
