Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 281: I Want To Have A Meal With You
Chapter 281: Chapter 281: I Want To Have A Meal With You
Stephanie fidgeted with her fingers, stuck in the middle. After a long pause, she whispered, "Daddy."
It was so soft, that almost no one could hear it. But Daniel heard it.
"Hey! My precious darling!" he cheered. He picked her up instantly as his face was filled with joy.
Stephanie pointed at Camille, who was still screaming and crying like crazy.
Daniel grinned and said, "I said I’d consider it. But if you give me a kiss on the cheek, then I’ll definitely let them join us."
"You liar!" Stephanie puffed up her cheeks, clearly mad.
Chantelle shifted her eyes from Daniel and Stephanie to Camille. She thought about how Camille didn’t even hesitate to make a scene in front of Rowan just to force her way into the private room and sit at the same table with them. Her eyes darkened as those thoughts filled her head.
"Daniel, I just misunderstood Ms. Chantelle and the kids, that’s all. Please don’t be mad at me anymore," Camille said quickly. She saw Daniel finally motion to her to join them after getting a kiss from Stephanie. She felt happy but also jealous.
Daniel looked at her coldly. "Let me warn you, Ms. Nelsen. In all of Easthan, no one touches the people I protect."
A chill ran down Camille’s back. She quickly nodded. "I understand. I won’t get mad at them again."
Daniel didn’t respond. He turned to Chantelle, making it clear she was the one who would decide what happened to Camille now.
Chantelle frowned and looked disgusted. Camille forced a smile and said, "I know you’re kind. Please don’t take my behavior to heart."
"You really know how to change your face fast," Kane said as he made a silly face at Camille. Then he ran into the private room, pulling Railer along.
Camille clenched her teeth so hard it felt like they might crack. Still, she forced a smile to stay on her face.
Deep down, she swore she’d make Chantelle and those little brats pay for her humiliation one day.
Chantelle glanced at her, saying, "Let me give you a little advice, Ms. Nelsen. Don’t take your bitterness out on me just because you can’t get Mr. Wilson. I don’t like drama. If you push me, don’t blame me if you get hurt."
Chantelle’s face said it all. She looked at Camille with clear disdain, like she was nothing but a joke. In her eyes, Camille had become a complete laughingstock.
Camille almost lost her temper.
Just then, someone came walking toward them.
"Daniel!"
Daniel turned around, a bit surprised to see Jude.
Jude rarely called him that in public. It was out of character for how he usually acted.
"Daniel, I want to have a meal with you," Jude said straight to the point.
He was just another person trying to get into the private room for lunch.
Chantelle noticed Shiela standing beside him. She gave her a small nod to greet her.
Shiela, in return, gave her a look that clearly said she didn’t really want to join the meal.
"Fine, come in," Daniel said. Their family time had already been interrupted by Rowan and Camille. Letting Jude join wouldn’t make much difference now.
When Shiela heard Daniel agree to let them join, her shoulders dropped in defeat.
As everyone sat down, Chantelle noticed something strange. Jude actually pulled out a chair for Shiela. Shiela looked so confused but her reaction was cute.
Chantelle smiled at the sight. But just as she was about to take her seat, Camille suddenly walked toward her. Worried that Camille’s soup-covered clothes might brush against her, she quickly stepped aside.
Daniel reacted fast. He pulled Chantelle to the other side and had her sit next to him.
Camille wasn’t ready to give up. She tried to sit closer to Daniel, but Stephanie slid into the seat next to him before she could.
Kane and Railer quickly sat down beside Stephanie. Shiela ended up sitting next to Chantelle.
They were all gathered around a round table. But Camille was the only one sitting alone on the other side. The air felt heavy with awkwardness.
"Daniel..." Camille called out in a shaky voice and eyes were filled with tears.
Daniel didn’t look at her. Instead, he turned to Jude. "Why are you here?"
Jude was always buried in work. He never liked eating out. To him, spending extra time on meals was just a waste.
He usually ate lunchboxes packed by his family. When he was on business trips, Shiela would buy his lunch and deliver it to his office.
So it was rare to see him eating out. And even rarer for him to want to join a meal in a private room like this.
"To eat," Jude said simply.
Daniel raised an eyebrow. That answer clearly wasn’t enough for him.
Jude continued, "That day, you told me it was romantic to kiss your wife. So I tried..."
Before Jude could finish, Shiela quickly covered his mouth.
She shut her eyes, wishing she could disappear. It was too late as the secret was out.
Chantelle shot a glare at Daniel. Her cheeks blushed.
Why is he sharing our private life like that? she thought angrily.
Daniel leaned closer to her ear and whispered, "My wife really is the sweetest."
Chantelle pushed him away. He stumbled and bumped into a waiter carrying a jug of hot water. The water nearly spilled on Stephanie.
Daniel reacted fast and pulled Stephanie into his arms.
The hot water spilled all over his back.
"Daddy!" all three kids shouted at once.
When Daniel heard them call him that, the pain in his back didn’t seem as bad anymore.
He gently patted Stephanie’s head and asked, "Did you get hurt?"
Stephanie shook her head, then bit her lip. Tears started falling from her eyes.
So this was what it felt like to be protected by a father. Her heart was overwhelmed.
"Go to your mommy. Make sure your clothes aren’t wet," Daniel said as he handed her to Chantelle.
Then he stood up and started walking to the washroom to rinse his back with cold water.
"I’m so sorry, Mr. Wilson! I didn’t mean to do it!" the waiter said, panicking. His face went pale, and he dropped to his knees, begging for forgiveness.
"Why are you still kneeling? Go fetch some ointment, now!" the restaurant manager shouted as he rushed in with a few waiters. He was sweating heavily. He scolded the waiter for splashing the hot water on Daniel, then quickly led Daniel out of the room.
