Mountain Sitting Immortal-Chapter 74: Two Birds.
He stood with his signboard of the Red Dojo to push them back while shouting to them, "Don’t rush. Stay in a straight line. If you don’t stay in a straight line, you won’t get anything."
He shouted again as he kicked someone who didn’t listen, "I said stay in a straight line."
These people don’t know anything about him, so they don’t know his rules. He had to patiently train them like he did with the children of the servants.
But this bunch was more difficult to get into order because they didn’t know his identity and were much more desperate.
He wasn’t their employer, so he couldn’t get them fired like the servants. He was just some rich and generous boy to them.
They were also very hungry. Many of them don’t even know what they will eat that day, so they are very desperate to reach him and get the bread.
He didn’t show mercy to anyone who flouted his rules. Not only did he not give them bread, he would kick and beat them with the signboard he was carrying.
"Get in line," he shouted as he beat unruly people.
Eventually, a modicum of order was created. There was a line, but people were still fighting each other for spots in the line. It was good enough for him, so he began distributing the bread.
He handed the bread to them while saying, "Remember to tell people that I have opened a dojo for children who want to practice martial arts. Children from 10 to 16 can attend. Training is free. The dojo will open tomorrow and every day after that from 8 am to 10 am. "
As he did that, he received a notification.
Mountain Karma +3
This surprised him because he was expecting just 2 points of Karma.
The man that was receiving the bread said, "I’lls tells everyone, benefactor."
He was wearing tattered and patched clothing. His shoes had holes in them, and his accent was thick. But there was a look of happiness and gratefulness on his face that seemed to make him glow with new life.
The man asked, "Cans I gets ones more breads, benefactor?"
Arthur shook his head. "Everyone only gets one. That is the second rule."
He could see that the man truly needed the bread, but he wasn’t running a non-profit despite it looking so.
He was hoping to maximize his Karma output. Giving one person more than one loaf of bread would dilute the appreciation for the bread, so he won’t do that.
The man was visibly disappointed, but his eyes lit up with hope when he heard Arthur say that he would return the next day.
"I’ll be here tomorrow. If you’re lucky, you might be able to get one tomorrow too."
The man nodded happily, bowed his head, and said, "Thanks you very much, benefactor. Mays you lives long ant prospers."
As the man left, Arthur shouted to him and everyone else, "Don’t forget to tell everyone that I’m running a free dojo. Any child from 10 to 16 can come."
Then he continued distributing the bread. Not only was he earning karma from it, but he was also using it as a means of advertisement for his new dojo.
He got the idea of a dojo yesterday when Thompson expressed just how much he had impacted his life and those of others. His plan is to use the dojo to help others and also raise an organization that he can use to get things done for him.
Dojos are pretty common in Agate City and its environs. They are actually the weaker versions of sects. They are places for people to train and learn how to cultivate.
As Ethera is a martial world, there are no schools for purely intellectual learning. The only form of education system is informal, where masters teach their apprentices and fathers teach their sons their trades.
Dojos have replaced schools. They are to primary education as sects are to colleges and universities. Learning martial arts and cultivation is the norm for most of the populace.
It is the children of nobles that learn history, art, literature, and other intellectual subjects. But they do that at home with private teachers.
The rest of society just learns how to read and stops there. What they do with the rest of their lives is train their bodies and cultivate in hopes of transcending their mortal coils.
The presence of the Ten Thousand Beast Hunting Center in the city also means that there is a high demand for hunters. Hunters need to be powerful if they want to survive in the wild and return with prey to sell. So Dojos are in high demand.
Unfortunately, the tuition of Dojos are expensive. After all, what Dojos teach is true power, not the intangible knowledge that the schools on earth teach.

By offering to train children for free, he will be helping them, which will earn him karma and also help him acquire subordinates that he can use.
It is killing two birds with one stone. So he is looking forward to its success.
He distributed the bread quickly and announced to everyone that he would be back tomorrow. Then he left to buy wine for distillation.
As he was leaving, he checked his system for its progress. He noticed that he had earned 1,300 Karma. It put him in a good mood.
He thought to himself in excitement as he sat in the carriage, "From 135 karma daily to 1,200 daily. At this rate, I’ll be able to reach level 3 in 20 years instead of 200 years. If I burn even more money, I’ll get a lot more karma and progress faster."
He thought so, but he wanted to wait and see before he decided to spend more than 10 silver coins daily on bread that he gives away. It is because he is being cautious.
He has to be cautious because Ethera isn’t Earth. Here on Ethera, the effect of laws is minimal. If he spends too much money, he might attract the wrong attention.
