Monster Hunter: This Dragon's Built Different-Chapter 413: New Radiant Crystal Butterfly
"What a magnificent sight!"
Looking at those enormous crystals, everyone present exclaimed in admiration.
Having long been accustomed to all kinds of elemental energies, their acceptance of anything new had already become quite high. Even so, when faced with Logan creating a vast land of massive crystals in an instant, the shock was still overwhelming when witnessed firsthand.
This was completely a manifestation of nature’s mighty power!!
Darren, who had been working tirelessly together with his Felyne companion on Zorah Magdaros’s back, excavating all kinds of precious ores, excitedly stuffed a valuable mineral into his backpack. Hearing the exclamations around him, he looked up and only saw Logan’s figure rushing straight into the clouds. Almost instinctively, he reached out and touched the spine of his greatsword, Blazing Wing.
In this Zorah Magdaros interception operation, he had been responsible for the most dangerous of Zorah Magdaros’s heat-dissipation organs. This upgraded greatsword had allowed him, under this set of armor, to forcibly withstand the high-temperature magma continuously venting from those organs and, by relying on the flame augmentation from Zorah Magdaros’s magma, to easily destroy those solid organs.
But now, looking at Logan’s attribute energy—so completely different from the past—he could not help but feel a trace of concern about whether Blazing Wing would be unable to complete higher-tier upgrades in the future.
...
The Commander stood with his arms crossed. Although he was also astonished by the commotion Logan had caused, what occupied his thoughts even more was the instruction Logan had given before leaving.
"Make sure that Zorah Magdaros falls into slumber in the place where all things end."
As for the situation inside the Great Ravine, although the Commander had never witnessed it personally, over the years hunters traveling back and forth to the Third Fleet’s mobile research base that had fallen into the Great Ravine had provided some corresponding descriptions of the environment there, and scholars had named that special ecological region the Coral Highlands.
And beneath the Coral Highlands, that area filled with effluvial miasma was named the Rotten Vale by the Field Master who had leaped across the Great Ravine together with the Third Fleet.
After the Admiral, in previous years, went to the Coral Highlands under the pretext of providing support, successfully rendezvoused with the Field Master, and then successfully ventured deep into the lower layers of the Rotten Vale, the scholars—through the correspondence they jointly sent back—speculated that place was very likely the core of the entire New World.
So, did the place where all things end that Logan mentioned refer to that deep valley filled with effluvial miasma?
For a moment, even the Commander could not be sure. Although the environment of the Rotten Vale did fit what one might call the place where all things end, after the misunderstanding that Nakarkos had been the mastermind behind the Elder Crossing, whenever he encountered something that required this kind of conjecture, he would always doubt the scholars’ related inferences.
"Hoo~ Forget it. When the time comes, send more people to track Zorah Magdaros. The Sunblaze Dragon definitely won’t casually say some inexplicable nonsense."
The Admiral raised his head, feeling the sulfur-scented hot air rushing toward him from Zorah Magdaros. His eyes were pricked by the glare reflecting off the Terastal crystals, and all at once he seemed to think of something.
"Speaking of which, wasn’t the name ’Sunblaze Dragon’ chosen a bit hastily? But who could have thought that the energy He truly uses would actually be Terastal energy? Forget it—anyway, that’s not something I should be getting a headache over."
The Commander shook his head. After steadying his mind, he began to think through the new arrangements that would come next.
...
In the sky, Logan passed through the pitch-black dust clouds and crossed over vast volcanoes with magma flowing without cease. Finally, amid dense life energy, he returned once more to the Elder’s Recess. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
With each beat of his wings, seeing that the terrain had not changed much, he turned and flew toward his former temporary nest.
As his flight speed slowed, large numbers of Radiant Crystal Butterflies separated from his body. They danced in the air, forming a sea of insects, and then—under the command of a Radiant Crystal Butterfly of enormous size—scattered in all directions.
Some found those massive clusters of Bioenergy Crystal, clung to the crystals, and began refining and drawing out the life energy within.
Others, in groups of two or three, found monsters whose bodies were rich with abundant life energy. They attached themselves to those monsters, and while providing them with some Terastal energy to stimulate and activate their energy organs, they also used those monsters’ energy organs to filter and temper an even purer life energy.
The Radiant Crystal Butterflies of the past, because Terastal energy had been overbearing and out of place in this world, had adapted into creatures that could only survive by relying on Terastal energy. When outside, they even needed Logan to shed scales to replenish them so they could reproduce.
But now, this new Terastal energy—because of the Radiant Crystal Butterflies’ special nature—instead made them the first among Logan’s symbiotic organisms to complete adaptation and evolution.
They could mix the Terastal core that had metamorphosed within their chests with highly purified life energy, thereby forming new Terastal energy.
At first glance, it seemed to have recovered some of the characteristics of Qurio. In reality, compared to the Qurio’s behavior of stimulating organisms and then plundering their vital essence, there were still very large differences.
With the mixing of this world’s miraculous life energy, the new Terastal energy was no longer so violent, and its stimulation of monsters’ energy organs did not cause major harm.
Moreover, compared to the Qurio’s forceful extraction of vital essence, the Radiant Crystal Butterflies merely treated the monsters as an intermediary station for refining pure life energy. As for the monsters’ original life energy that had already become mottled and impure, they did not even find it worth taking.
Of course, to say there were no side effects at all would be false. Even though the Terastal energy had become gentler, it was still Terastal energy.
After the monsters’ energy organs were stimulated by Terastal energy over a long period and became more active, they would, more or less, become tainted with some external manifestations of Terastal energy.
This included, but was not limited to, the energy breath they exhaled carrying a faint trace of Terastal energy; their keratin layers, scales, fur, and similar features showing varying degrees of Terastalization; and monsters becoming more excitable in battle, with their defensive capabilities becoming somewhat more resilient, and the like.
Compared to the changes seen in the Radiant Fire Wyvern and the Fire Wyvern Grimalkynes, these changes were far less pronounced, but they were still the kind that could be identified relatively easily.
Regarding these changes in the Radiant Crystal Butterflies, Logan had been somewhat worried at first. What if this thing seriously affected the ecology? Wouldn’t that force him to choose between exterminating the Radiant Crystal Butterflies or abandoning his current state and shifting from the Dragon of Ecology to the opposing side of the world?
Fortunately, after many experiments, it was discovered that this was a win–win situation. It was essentially equivalent to the New World gaining, in addition to the Tempered enhancement, a more obvious state of Terastalization.
He was, still, a dragon on nature’s side!
After using Pressure to drive away the flying wyvern that had taken over this nest while Logan and the others were gone, Logan stood atop the mountain peak. Gazing over the Elder’s Recess—forever dim and gloomy, never seeing a trace of sunlight all day—he carefully perceived the vast life energy accumulated throughout this region.
Not long after Logan arrived, the Kulve Taroth, its entire body gleaming with golden light, crawled out from the Everstream outlet. Dragging a metallic shell like a golden battle skirt, it swaggered into the Elder’s Recess, found a suitable mountainside, and began constructing its own temporary dwelling.
