Chapter 578: 564, Lie down, don’t move (1)_1
In the car, the man saw the ceaseless traffic and a deep meaning flashed in his eyes. He slowed down, subtly tailing the car Jian Qing and the others were in.
“Jian Qing, my grandfather may seem stern but he’s not as scary as he seems.” Inside the car, Zhan Mingyan casually said while sipping her milk tea.
His grandfather, a general, had a serious face that scared anyone in the troops. Even though Jian Qing was brave, Zhan Mingyan thought it would be better to give her a heads-up.
Jian Qing smiled and adjusted the scarf around her neck.
The alert for a new message sounded from her phone. As she opened the message, a captivating curve appeared on her lips unconsciously.
[Jingwu: Where are you?]
“Your man?” Zhan Mingyan began to tease, now quite familiar with their dynamic.
Jian Qing gave her a glance, and gently tapped to reply to the message.
“Bang—”
Just as the message was sent, Zhan Mingyan’s alarmed cry echoed in the tight confines of the car.
“Watch out!”
Jian Qing looked up at the sound of a collision.
“Bang—”
Due to the inertia of the car, the women’s bodies lunged forward, their foreheads hitting the front seats.
Jian Qing quickly lifted her arm to protect herself, but Zhan Mingyan wasn’t so lucky—she hit her head and it turned red.
“Hisss—”
Zhan Mingyan held her head, her face turning pale.
“What’s going on?”
She glanced at the driver who had passed out on the steering wheel. The driver was much more severely injured, blood trickling down his forehead, a terrifying sight.
As Jian Qing looked back at the car that had collided with them, her gaze inadvertently met a pair of cold eyes. Her demeanor instantly hardened.
Damn it, they were being targeted.
A flash of silver passed in front of her eyes. She squinted to make out what it was, and realizing it spelled danger, she pushed Zhan Mingyan’s head down.
“Stay low and don’t move!”
Zhan Mingyan was startled by Jian Qing’s cold command, it felt as if they were back on Solak Island, being kidnapped by Eisen and his men.
“Crash—”
The car window shattered, shards of glass showering both women.
Jian Qing’s hand felt a slight prickling pain. Her brow creased as she took out her phone, calmly typing in the dim light.
Zhan Mingyan saw a bullet fall near her foot and gasped.
A silenced gun!
Her pupils contracted as she instinctively looked at Jian Qing, who was looking at a cluster of red and green bars bouncing on her phone. Striving to remain calm, Zhan Mingyan refrained from disturbing her.
“Bang—”
The other window was shattered, Zhan Mingyan quickly pulled her scarf up to protect their heads from the glass shards.
“Mingyan, it seems that you got dragged into this because of me.” Jian Qing put away her phone, a bone-chilling frostiness settling in her eyes.
Zhan Mingyan managed a smile, “What do you mean, involved? It’s normal for friends to stick together in tough times. Maybe they’re after me.”
The two shared a brief laughter before Jian Qing gravely stated, “We can’t stay here. We must get out of the car immediately.”
The driver was unconscious. If they didn’t leave, the attacker might keep shooting at them. Jian Qing wasn’t a saint, but causing harm to the innocent was against her principles.
Moreover, they were far from the city and waiting for help obviously wouldn’t be quick enough. Instead of passively waiting, it would be better to actively seek a way out.
After looking at the driver, Zhan Mingyan understood that Jian Qing didn’t want to bring him any more harm. “I’ll listen to you, whatever you decide is fine.”
Jian Qing nodded and opened the car door, quickly pulling Zhan Mingyan to run out of the car.
“Mingyan, keep close,” Jian Qing glanced at the black car chasing them from a distance.
Zhan Mingyan followed closely behind her, probably running faster than any other time in her life except when in the troops.
“Bang Bang Bang—”
The faint sound of the silenced gun dissipated in the air, Jian Qing radiated a menacing aura.
“Hmm—”
Zhan Mingyan stumbled a bit, almost falling to her knees.
Looking back, Jian Qing noticed the blood seeping from Mingyan’s arm, her face paling, “Were you shot?”
“I’m alright, don’t worry about me, just go!” Zhan Mingyan furrowed her brow, pallor leaving her lips bloodless, the gunshot wound on her arm making her drip with cold sweat.
Jian Qing glanced at a large tree not far away and swiftly headed towards it with Mingyan in tow.
“Mingyan, wait for me here.”
The sound of the car’s engine was getting closer, Zhan Mingyan was on high alert.
“No, where are you going?”
“Trust me, I’ll be fine. Just like before on the island, wait for me here.” Jian Qing handed her phone to Zhan Mingyan. “Call the police, then call Xiaojing.”
Before Zhan Mingyan could reply, Jian Qing was already running, leaving no more than an after-image in Zhan Mingyan’s sight.
“Jian Qing!”
She called out softly, only to see that Jian Qing was already far away.
Remembering Jian Qing’s instructions, Zhan Mingyan didn’t waste any time. She called the police and then dialed Quan Jingwu’s number.
The call was answered before it even rang twice.
She quickly spoke, “Quan Jingwu, something has happened to Jian Qing. Hurry.”
On the other end, Quan Jingwu’s playful eyes suddenly turned cold, his face became instantly grim, his jawline radiating an icy chill.
He stood up abruptly, knocking over the documents beside him.
“Where?”
In the meeting room, the oppressive atmosphere surrounding him made the other executives hold their breaths.
Hanging up the phone, Quan Jingwu quickly left the meeting room.
“Boss!”
Noting this, Shen Hao felt a chill down his spine and quickly followed him out.
If someone could make their Boss lose his composure, it could only be his lady.
Had there been any mishap?
The tires screeched against the ground with a harsh sound as the black car came to a sudden stop. A man in black jumped out and started chasing Jian Qing.
Bullets grazed the ground, leaving shallow marks on the cement.
Jian Qing’s eyes narrowed as she skillfully dodged the continuous barrage of bullets.
“Who sent you?”
She looked up only to find a pair of chilling eyes gazing back, the man’s entire face was masked by a scarf and hat.
The man pulled the trigger only to find that he was out of bullets, annoyance flashed across his face.
He discarded the gun, rushing towards Jian Qing with his bare hands.
What he didn’t know was that close-quarter combat was Jian Qing’s forte.
A bloodthirsty grin curled on Jian Qing’s lips, she ducked his punch and retaliated with a swift kick to his abdomen.
The man’s eyes widened as the sound of his ribs fracturing echoed in their ears.
He glared at Jian Qing, a murderous rage in his red-tinged eyes as his ham-like fist swerved towards Jian Qing’s head.
“Hmph!”
Jian Qing glanced at him disdainfully, her deft moves deflecting his attack. She swiped at his throat with a palm strike and planted a knee into his midsection again.
Fast, vicious, accurate—providing him little chance to escape.
“Phew—”
The man grimaced, staring mercilessly at her.
An overwhelming aura of dominance hit him, upon meeting her obsidian-like cold eyes, he flinched.
