Modern World Warlock-Chapter 352: Death Art
After Megan, Zac, and Alice found Netherius holding Vesnia's neck by chance, the necromancer asked them to stay away with a commanding tone.
Netherius was genuinely furious at the fact that the mental control that he had on his Death Knights had been waning for hours.
Radeon, Saturio, and Udras were killed, and while he could bring them back, he needed time to rebuild their bodies.
He believed that Isidor and Vesnia would fulfill their duties until the very end, but he ended up having to reapply another layer of mental control on Isidor, as the man was already remembering everything about his life.
Moreover, while Vesnia was one of the physically stronger Death Knights under his command, the woman had the weakest mentality, which made it easier for him to alter her memories.
With all that in mind, the necromancer's eyes sharpened with ferocity as he gripped Vesnia's throat in front of the Jade Dragons' trio.
"Combat Art: Berserker…" Zac's chant interrupted their moment, catching absolutely everyone around by surprise.
Netherius turned his head slightly when he heard the redhead, a mix of curiosity and wariness.
"He's the one who killed Saris, right?" Zac asked aloud, though he wasn't directing his question at anyone in particular.
As a red mist began to form around his body, Zac's eyes became brighter while gripping his metal baseball bat.
In the blink of an eye, the redhead lunged forward and appeared before Netherius, prompting the necromancer to drop Vesnia and protect himself.
Nonetheless, Zac managed to strike him on the ribs as if he were hitting a home run, forcing Netherius out of the destroyed building through a glass panel. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
While falling, the necromancer turned to look back at the building and noticed Zac jumping down to chase him, showing an expression that resembled a wilding animal.
"This is ridiculous…" Netherius muttered, and right as his feet touched the ground gracefully like a feather, cracks formed on the asphalt around him from the sheer pressure of his aura.
In any other scenario, Zac would have been at least a little hesitant to face the necromancer.
Dante even suggested that they should run away if they encountered him, but the redhead's berserker nature had taken over his body.
Ever since Zac heard from the twins that Saris had been killed by Netherius, his mind was cloudy.
The banshee was their enemy at first, but then she became Zac's and Victoria's roommate. She liked to eat Sophia's homemade dishes, and she was even starting to play video games with Zac, Dante, and Krom.
It didn't matter to the redhead that Saris was a demon—she was his friend, and it was those same thoughts that made him act without considering the risks.
As he got closer to landing on the ground with his sight locked on Netherius, dozens of bone spikes extruded from the street's ground. However, Zac waved his bat with one hand to the side and unleashed an airwave that shattered the spikes before skewering him.
"I see. So, your victory wasn't a fluke…" Netherius commented, his demeanor changing from rage to a more studious vibe.
When the necromancer felt Saturio dying, he knew that Zac was responsible. However, he thought that other mages must have helped, not seeing anything special about the redhead.
However, now that he was experiencing the berserker's rage first-hand, he changed his mind and deemed Zac a worthy opponent.
"You'll be a great Death Knight…" Netherius said, eerily smiling as Zac rushed forward.
Showing his respects for the berserker, the necromancer chanted "Death Art: Ruin," and in the blink of an eye, the streets where Zac was running began to break, raising parts of the ground upwards and utterly changing the flat landscape.
While the destruction of everything around him was perplexing, Zac didn't stop rushing forward, jumping onto the newly formed platforms that were created from the street's debris.
Still, Zac's reckless advance came to a halt when he noticed that the corrupted ground below him was turning pitch black, and only when he realized this detail, his legs stopped moving abruptly.
'Shit…' The redhead thought, glaring at the necromancer standing less than four meters away from him.
"I'll show you the difference between us," Netherius muttered, pointing his palm forward, which was covered by the blue-ish necrotic energy.
Zac didn't see anything coming his way. There was no projectile being shot, and no other spells were cast. So, when he felt excruciating pain coursing through his body that made his eyes, nose, and ears bleed, he was pretty confused.
"Did you think you could just step into my 'Ruin' and keep on rushing forward? Know your place, berserker…" Netherius commented.
The pressure enveloping Zac didn't allow him to respond, and after coughing some blood, his entire body was pushed back with such a force that his trajectory could barely be seen by the naked eye.
The push was so strong that Zac's body went through an abandoned vehicle and broke it in half before crashing against a building, which was instantly demolished, prompting the structure to collapse on top of the redhead.
At that moment, Netherius turned his head to the building where he was previously choking Vesnia, but as he looked up, he sensed that there was one person missing.
His body turned around and his eyes widened, but he was half a second too late, as Megan had appeared from behind and stabbed the nape of his neck.
Before she could remove the dagger from the necromancer's body, another wave of necrotic energy pushed Megan back. However, she was able to do a vault and safely land on her feet.
Even though anybody would've died from being stabbed in the back of the neck, Megan knew that her opponent wasn't playing by those mortal rules.
When Netherius slowly raised his hand and removed the dagger, blood gushed out of his wound before getting promptly patched up by his magic.
"Not bad… I didn't expect you could sneak up on me like that," Netherius commented, and while his words were praising Megan, his eyes showed nothing but pure disdain.
To the necromancer, their defiance meant that the Jade Dragons were looking down on him. So, to correct them, he had decided to turn them all into his new Death Knight squad.
