MMORPG: Rebirth of the Legendary TimeKeeper-Chapter 140: Slashing Forwards and Backwards
I wonder if I can get a hit. Raven thought curiously, standing against the man in front of him.
The others had already received their [Bonus Quests], as some even began practising while others, like Trisha and Blaze, now paused and waited for her turn.
She felt a little conflicted.
Despite seeming calm as always, there was a lot on her mind right now.
Partially because of the mission in her real life she was dealing with, and partially because of how the sect started treating her more favourably after she gave the information on Ancient Language to them.
It was surprising for her.
The same sect that seemed to spite her and her sister at every chance they got was now favouring her as their favourite child. The more she thought about it, the more chills she felt. Like a bad omen. She could not remove her mind from it.
But still, she had to do what she had to.
-Whoosh!
Just like Blaze, she moved closer to that man, trying to get a hit in her first attack. Because her stamina consumption was far lower than before, she didn't need to hold back anymore.

A front slash, followed by a left one. Then another left. And then an upper slash, followed by a powerful kick.
-Thup!
That man blocked her feet with his left hand while playing with his rapier with the right.
Taking a step back, she then repositioned herself before dashing closer to him, adding a thrust aimed at his neck. She saw him moving backwards and crouching, to which she momentarily forced her hand and changed the direction of the thrust, almost reaching that man's head.
-Clank!
But it was parried with the rapier before it could land.
Understanding that staying so close for any longer might result in death, she immediately kicked the ground, pushing herself a dozen meters away from him. Though looking at how he was still casually standing there, it didn't seem like he was taking it seriously at all.
"That's some neat trick. I must say, I am impressed," that man complimented Raven. His eyes genuinely admired her movements. A pleased smile appeared on his face as he added,
"You must have trained really hard. The fact that you can make me use my rapier already puts you above 99% of the people in this world."
He was strong. And far better than anyone Raven had faced.
Even the Devil, who was so much stronger and near impossible to kill, didn't feel as invincible as this guy.
Can we even defeat this guy? She questioned as she looked at that man. Doubts floated in her mind as she looked at Ezekiel. For a moment, she felt like even her Boss wouldn't be able to do that, but then again, Ezekiel was someone who tended to do things in unorthodox ways.
"But if you really want to defeat me, you have to do better than that," that man continued again, his eyes focusing on Raven.
"For starters, let's talk about your skills. They are good and refined, but you don't have any definite pattern. It's as if you have practised a bunch of moves, or perhaps quite a lot of them, and use them as the situation demands," he said as he pondered how to explain his words.
It took him a few seconds to pause before adding,
"It's like a game of chess. You know the moves. How each piece is supposed to work. But what you don't know is the openings, the middle game and the ending. You work with what you've got and try to move along the flow. It's similar, except you have to make the decisions in a fraction of a second."
Raven's eyes narrowed at that man. She somewhat understood what he meant, and partially knew that he was correct. Raven was self-taught. Meaning, all her moves were polished by herself, which she practised over 1000 times every day to perfection.
The only thing she knew was to wield the weapons. So she made sure to wield it the right way.
As for a definite pattern or going through an extra step to learn a style, it hadn't even occurred to her before. She believed that as long as she was good enough with her fundamentals, she didn't need to worry about getting defeated at all.
"When we first trained, we were asked to polish our fundamentals. Once we did that, we were then asked to connect two of our strikes. For example, an upward slash followed by a downward one. Or a horizontal slash followed by a vertical one," the man continued without any pause, speaking,
"Once we mastered, let's say, an upward followed by a downward, then we were asked to do an upward followed by a horizontal slash. Once that is done, then a thrust. After that, we learned the following diagonal slash. While we could have as many as possible, we usually tried to have about 2 to 3 possibilities. The sharper kids did 5 to 6, while the best one did at least 8."
Raven got a gist of what that man was talking about.
"Once a two-step slash is created, you try to polish it to a level where it would look like a single slash. This was named as a [Dual Slash], which allowed one to do two strikes at once. Those who mastered it went even further to [Triple Slash], or a [Quadruple] one," a reminiscing look presented on that man's face as he turned to Raven and added at last,
"The highest a mortal had reached was the [Penta Slash], also known as the [Five Petal Slash]. Just think about it! 5 slashes in a single instance every time you went for an attack! All your attacks would deal 5 times damage, while the opponent has to prevent the attack from 5 possible directions! How cool that would be!"
Excitement was visible on his face as he looked at Raven with hope.
And then asked,
"Can you do that?"
