Chapter 189: The Knight Squad

From a distance, the scene was nothing short of breathtaking.

The Wyvern Saint Knight, Lyanna, stood poised atop her white Glacier Ice Dragon, the vast creature hovering in a slow, regal glide above the frost-kissed ground. In her hand, the violet red Wyvern Flame Spear shimmered with restrained power, its edge flickering like a living ember. Her armor, forged in matching hues of flame and frost, clung to her slender, athletic frame with elegant precision, every contour designed for both beauty and war.

She looked like something torn from myth, a peerless Valkyrie whose very presence bent the battlefield into reverent silence.

Marcus could hardly reconcile the woman before him with the fragile figure he had first encountered. Moments ago she had seemed like a serene celestial maiden, luminous and distant, then a cold moonlit beauty whose calm gaze held centuries of sorrow. Now she had become this formidable warrior saint, reborn in steel and flame.

The transformation was not merely visual; it felt monumental, like witnessing a legend reassemble itself before his eyes. In all of Dominion, he had never seen anyone who embodied so many facets so seamlessly. He found himself mesmerized, not only by her beauty, but by the sheer gravity of her return.

After a thousand years of slumber within the Spring of Purity, Lyanna was finally and truly back.

The newly resurrected saint guided her dragon forward with a subtle shift of posture, and the immense creature responded as if it shared her heartbeat. They drifted toward Marcus with quiet grace. When she looked down at him, her gaze was gentle, almost searching, and for the briefest instant a faint blush touched her pale cheeks, softening the awe-inspiring figure into something unexpectedly human.

Then the system’s familiar chime rang out.

Ding.

"Congratulations, Stonehaven. You have successfully infused the Wyvern Flame Spear with sufficient lifeblood, rescuing the spirit of the Wyvern Saint Knight, Lyanna, from her thousand-year slumber. By combining the pure negative essence of the spring with Stonehaven’s potent vitality, Lyanna’s resurrection is complete."

As the message faded, Lyanna halted directly before him, her dragon suspended in midair. Her deep eyes studied him with an intensity that made his pulse quicken, as though she were trying to memorize his face. The system resumed, its tone shifting from congratulatory to cautionary.

"Stonehaven, although Lyanna’s resurrection was made possible by your lifeblood, your vitality contains an unusually high concentration of solar energy. While Lyanna absorbed the lunar essence of the spring, she cannot yet harmonize the magnitude of solar power within her new body. Without balance between negative and positive, she risks internal combustion. Her form could be destroyed from within."

Marcus stared at the hovering knight, dread and disbelief colliding in his chest. Destroyed? After all that?

"To prevent this outcome," the system continued, "Lyanna must form a bond with you. She will reside within your spirit, gradually tempering the excess solar energy. Without this bond, she will be consumed by the solar fire and vanish."

For a heartbeat, Marcus forgot to breathe. The implication struck him all at once. The legendary Wyvern Saint Knight, a name etched into Dominion’s history, this celestial warrior reborn in frost and flame, needed him.

A new prompt appeared.

"Stonehaven, Lyanna feels a profound connection to you and is willing to bind her spirit to yours. She will become your Retainer, a Humanoid Companion. You may summon her from within your body to aid you in battle. Stonehaven, will you accept this Soul Bond, or will you allow Lyanna to be consumed by the solar fire and vanish?"

"I accept!" Marcus blurted, the words leaping out before caution could intervene.

He might be a veteran player who weighed risks and mechanics with care, but he was not foolish. The strategic advantage alone was enormous, and beyond that, he could not stomach the idea of watching her fade into ash after bringing her back. Even in a game, some choices felt absolute.

The instant the bond was accepted, Lyanna’s blush deepened. She met his gaze for one quiet, solemn moment, as if acknowledging a vow neither of them had spoken aloud. Then her body dissolved into a sphere of ice-blue light. The orb circled him once, trailing a faint shimmer of frost, before plunging straight into his chest.

A rush of cool energy surged through him, crisp and invigorating, threading through his veins and settling at last in his right arm. Marcus tore off his gauntlet and found a new mark etched into his skin: a violet red spear sigil, vivid and unmistakable. The Wyvern Flame Spear had become the emblem of their bond.

Ding.

"Congratulations, Stonehaven. The Wyvern Saint Knight, Lyanna, has successfully bonded with your spirit as your Retainer and Humanoid Companion. You have learned the skill: Summon: Wyvern Saint Knight Lyanna."

Marcus stood there for several seconds, unable to hold back his grin. Of all the hidden quests, rare drops, and secret events he had chased in Dominion, nothing compared to this. He had just turned a continent-shaping legend into his personal retainer. No one was going to believe it.

He quickly opened his skill menu.

Summon: Wyvern Saint Knight Lyanna

Resurrected through the lunar essence of the spring and Stonehaven’s lifeblood, Lyanna must remain bonded to Stonehaven to temper the excess solar energy within her.

Note: Upon resurrection, Lyanna has lost all former power and memories. Her level has been reset to 0. She must grow and train alongside her master to reclaim her legendary strength.

Effect: Stonehaven can summon Lyanna as a Humanoid Companion. In her current state, she lacks independent thought and speech but will follow all reasonable and valid commands from Stonehaven.

Restriction: Stonehaven is strictly prohibited from harassing Lyanna. Any inappropriate behavior will result in severe system penalties and carries a 50 percent chance of Lyanna deserting her master.

Marcus exhaled slowly, the initial euphoria settling into focused calculation. Amnesia and a level reset explained the imbalance. A resurrected legend at full strength would have shattered early game balance beyond repair. This way, she could grow with him, and perhaps rediscover who she once was. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"As for the restriction," he muttered under his breath, closing the window, "that’s fair."

The developers clearly anticipated certain players pushing boundaries the moment humanoid companions were introduced. Marcus considered himself gallant rather than crude. He had no intention of testing the system’s patience.

"Summon: Lyanna."

Ice-blue light burst beside him. In an instant she stood there once more, mounted on her floating Glacier Ice Dragon, armor gleaming, spear resting lightly in her grasp. She looked at him with calm attentiveness, her expression serene and obedient, awaiting instruction.

The interface felt seamless, similar to his Sanctuary Covenant skill.

"Sanctuary Covenant."

Another flash erupted to his left, and Pebble materialized astride the massive Nightmare Dragon Steed, as it’s dark scales absorbed the ambient light. The Temple Guard sat upright and vigilant, ever the picture of disciplined loyalty.

Marcus glanced from one side to the other, and the sight sent a thrill through him. To his left stood Pebble, stalwart and unyielding. To his right, Lyanna, reborn legend of frost and flame. And in the center stood himself, Royal Knight Stonehaven, the axis around which they now revolved.

"Now this," he murmured, unable to suppress the pride swelling in his chest, "is a squad."

He immediately opened Lyanna’s stat window, anticipation tightening his focus. If her base attributes were anywhere near Pebble’s, even at level zero, the potential was staggering. With proper training and equipment, the three of them could challenge high-tier bosses, carve through elite grinding zones, and dominate player versus player encounters.

The Wyvern Saint Knight had once been counted among the greatest Dragon Knights in history. Even stripped of memory and power, that legacy had to mean something. On the battlefield, she was destined to become a monster once more.
