Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva-Chapter 1640 - 88: Journey on the Surface (Part 2)
Another truck drove by, and Prin raised her arm to create an invisible barrier around the two of them, avoiding the dust.
"This environment is really bad." She began to complain.
Seeing this, Tilan just shook her head secretly. Isn’t this the current situation in many remote areas of the Federation?
Finally arriving at the small town, the road beneath their feet turned into familiar gray magnetism, occasionally seeing some floating Autonomous Units shuttling to assist with transporting goods within the town.
The population here is not large, probably only around 2000, with few shops on the street and rarely any competition among stores of the same type.
"Is there anything delicious here?" Prin pulled Tilan into a store and asked straightforwardly.
"Hello, beautiful lady, we have quite a lot to eat here, and over there we have freshly made honey-glazed roast meat." A young man wearing a small hat greeted them enthusiastically.
"Honey-glazed roast meat?" Prin turned her gaze to the rolling iron wheels not far away, where skewers of roast meat were placed for heating, not knowing for how long.
The age of this grill machine might even be older than Prin, she thought to herself, feeling a bit disdainful.
"Other than this, we probably want some light drinks; my friend loves to drink." With that, she pulled Tilan out from behind her.
Even after making some cover, the appearance of this black-haired girl still stunned the store clerk for a few seconds before he reacted.
"Drinks, oh, drinks, yes, we also have a special sea buckthorn juice, a local specialty and a Transcendent beverage with great effects. Wait a moment, I’ll bring it over."
After saying that, he grabbed the keys and headed to the small room behind the counter, reappearing after a minute or two with a pack of orange drinks.
The packaging was just ordinary glass bottles, presumably containing refined sea buckthorn juice, emitting faint waves of Magic Power, indicating it was indeed a Transcendent beverage, but surely not above Tier 4.
For such a remote town, Prin could only shrug, not expecting too much.
"Two bottles, please." She picked up a card to pay.
"Okay~" the clerk replied happily, then handed a bottle to each of them.
Afterwards, the two of them wandered around the store again, which sold a variety of miscellaneous goods, from snacks to electronic products, with some daily bath supplies in stock.
"That’s all." Prin grabbed a few bags of snacks before leaving.
They hadn’t walked far from the store when the sound of a rumbling old motorcycle came rushing over, finally stopping in front of the store.
Five burly men with tattoos got off the motorbikes, ran a few steps, and stepped up to the store’s entrance, entering the store.
Seeing this, Tilan and Prin paused their steps, standing under the sparse shade of a tree by the street, unscrewing the caps to drink the plain fruit juice.
Though neither of them spoke it, this process was indeed a bit nostalgic.
Soon, the sound of conversation came from inside the store.
"Has the boss returned yet?"
"Not yet, but it should be anytime now." The clerk who had just served them replied, followed by more murmuring.
During this, nothing they expected happened, causing Prin to lose interest. She then tossed the empty juice bottle into a nearby trash bin.
"Let’s go, let’s check out other places."
Then, the two of them strolled around the small town, taking about an hour, occasionally asking locals for information.
"My friend and I came here for tourism, and we are a bit curious if things have always been like this here."
"Situation, what situation? Oh, I get it, you’re from other Star Domains, right?"
"The development here has indeed been quite backward, but it’s improved a lot in recent years." Upon hearing this, Prin nudged Tilan’s arm proudly.
Seeing her childlike behavior, Tilan wanted to smile, but recalling her own childhood appearance, she couldn’t laugh and just shook her head slightly, indicating this was not enough.
"What’s gotten better?" This black-haired girl rarely took the initiative to speak, her clear voice like a spring in the desert.
"What’s better, well, the security, of course. You can’t see road bullies or robbers anymore." The man on the roadside said casually, recalling scenes from his youth.
"Back then, I almost got mixed up with them, smoking, drinking, dyeing hair, getting tattoos, racing around to vent dissatisfaction." He leaned against the door frame, speaking the lines fluently, but looking at his current potbelly, he probably couldn’t be that wild anymore.
"Where did those people go later?"
"Many went to work in other places. In recent years, many Star Domains have been developing and constructing, and some space stations were established, which all need manpower, so even someone with shortcomings can find work." He commented casually.
"Didn’t you go?" Tilan asked out of curiosity. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"I got married, my father-in-law didn’t want his daughter following me to other Star Domains, so I stayed. Now, with kids grown up, it’s even harder to leave." He said, splitting a local cucumber from inside, offering it to the two of them.
"But what about you two, putting aside so many fun places in the Federation, why come to this dingy place?"
"That’s, maybe out of curiosity? We’ve gone to many bustling and fun places." Tilan replied.
"I really don’t understand you young people." The man continued leaning against the door frame.
Just then, the sound of a horn blared, and a truck stopped in front of the man’s house.
The door opened, and the driver, wearing a jacket with a cigarette in his mouth, got out. "Is the stuff I wanted ready?" he asked, only then noticing the two girls by the door.
"Your nieces?" The driver was half skeptical.
