Merchant From Earth in the Magical World-Chapter 536 - 377 The Real Old Fox _2
This was a battle that would decide the course of history.
Anderson and the Stone Giant charged towards Yan Xing and Hibel. With each stride, their steps produced different halos of light. Layer upon layer of status effects were applied to their bodies as their swords sliced through raindrops, sweeping water forward in a powerful cascade.
Yan Xing and Hibel each gripped their weapons and surged forward to meet their adversaries. Their swords cleaved through the air, tearing it apart like paper. The black rifts in space absorbed the rainwater along with the sword light.
No sharpness could compare to the sharpness of space. The super armors' independent computation cores and powerful energy supplies could instantly complete spatial calculations, causing spatial displacement.
The Tower Mage controlling the stone entity and Anderson dared not clash directly with such sharpness. They maneuvered to avoid it, rushing upwards from the side again.
In Yan Xing's conscious realm, the disembodied Chui Chui dedicated herself fully to her supportive duties.
"Master... there are hidden Magic Energy Sources around you," Chui Chui reported. "The attack from those two must be a diversion. Beware of sneak attacks. I will find their hiding method as quickly as possible."
Yan Xing conveyed Chui Chui's warning to Hibel and said, "I'll handle Anderson. You take on that earth elemental Tower Mage."
"No, leave Anderson to me." Hibel had already charged at Anderson.
Yan Xing had no choice but to engage the earth elemental Tower Mage.
But as soon as Hibel left Yan Xing's side, the rainwater beneath his feet froze instantly, binding his legs in ice. The Stone Giant's fists thundered towards him.
At the same time, a streak of lightning rapidly jumped along the puddles on the ground. When it reached Yan Xing's side, a female Lightning Element Mage materialized. She drew the thin sword from her waist and unleashed a bolt of electricity towards Yan Xing.
Yan Xing immediately activated his Thunder Domain!
The intertwined wires in front of the Lord's Mansion burst from their insulating layers in bright electrical explosions. Serpentine electricity intertwined, forming thick bolts that rained down upon the ground and caused a rolling surge of electricity in the water. The lightning strike from the Lightning Element Mage vanished without a trace, becoming part of Yan Xing's Thunder Domain. The ice magic was broken, and the Stone Giant was sent tumbling by the electric surge.
Donning the ultimate super armor, Yan Xing floated up. Electricity gathered around him, turning the surrounding space a deep violet hue that continuously expanded outward.
Nuta City had already completed its electrical grid setup throughout its entirety. The moment Yan Xing unleashed his Thunder Domain, the city's electrical power began to flow into his domain. Although this would cause catastrophic damage to the city's power supply system, Yan Xing no longer wished to let this farce continue. Count Theodore's funeral could not be delayed. Such folly was not to be tolerated on my mentor's doorstep.
"Master, I found them," Chui Chui announced. "Three possible water elemental Tower Mages are lurking in the water. Their locations are..."
Each time Chui Chui marked a location, a massive bolt of lightning instantly formed and struck that spot. The Tower Mages lurking in the water were forced out.
Simultaneously, Yan Xing's Thunder Domain, so immensely powerful, triggered a response from the rainclouds above. A continuous lightning storm tore through the clouds and pierced the skies. One bolt plunged into the Thunder Domain Yan Xing had unleashed. The rampaging energy transformed into a torrent, whipping up violent winds that swept rain across the cityscape. The domain shone as blindingly bright as the sun.
Under this display of power, all those engaged in battle stopped their movements. They looked up at Yan Xing in the sky. The rain, dispersed by the energy, could not fall into this area. Even the water on the ground, disturbed by the chaotic magnetic fields, began to float weightlessly.
"Master, the accumulated energy must be released, or it will exceed the super armor's overload limit," Chui Chui warned. "We have identified 103 hostile targets, and all are locked on. Shall we proceed with 'Termination' on all targets?"
"Leave Anderson to Hibel. Execute 'Termination' on all other targets," Yan Xing commanded.
"Termination, initiated!"
The once scorching white light instantly contracted, condensing into a dense swarm of white light swords in the space around Yan Xing.
Termination executed.
These light swords, reminiscent of a 'myriad swords' attack from epic fantasy tales, shot towards their various locked-on targets. They were instantaneous and unavoidable.
The water that had floated weightlessly crashed back to the ground with a SPLASH. The bodies, pinned by the light swords, thudded down alongside it. These swords, formed from concentrated energy, did not vanish after killing their targets but revealed crystal-like solid forms. The material actually resembled the spear used to assassinate the Nine-Headed Dragon.
All those involved in this assassination attempt were dead—Tower Mages, mercenaries, assassins. Only Anderson remained, cornered against a wall by Hibel.
Anderson had not expected his meticulously planned assassination to end this way. He had never anticipated Yan Xing's strength to be so terrifying. With the power Yan Xing had just displayed, harnessing the energy of heaven and earth, who could possibly be his rival?
Anderson coughed up blood.
Alchemy could only grant a short burst of strength through forced bodily enhancement. He had thought it might be enough to kill Yan Xing, but clearly, he was mistaken.
Confronted by the descending Yan Xing, Anderson asked, "How could your strength have improved so much? You weren't this strong in Storm City!"
"You have always underestimated my strength. That's why you've failed," Yan Xing replied. "You've been on the wrong side of history from the start; that's the fundamental reason for your constant failures."
At that moment, Hibel approached Anderson with her sword, pressing the blade against his throat. "How did my father die?" she demanded.
Anderson slumped against the wall, his own sword falling to one side as blood continuously flowed from his mouth.
"Do you really want to know?" he rasped.
"Tell me!"
"Hahaha... Theodore, oh, Theodore..." Anderson laughed uproariously, then choked.
Yan Xing, standing by, thrust his sword into Anderson's chest.
Using his last bit of strength, Anderson gasped, "Marry Hibel... that was Theodore's dying wish."
Seeing Yan Xing kill Anderson, Hibel rounded on him angrily. "Why did you kill him! He hadn't told me how my father died yet!"
Yan Xing pulled out his sword, wiped it, sheathed it, and then deactivated his super armor.
"The Mentor was killed by Anderson," Yan Xing stated. "His goal was to lure me to Nuta City for the Mentor's funeral and then assassinate me. Unfortunately for him, his plan failed. Let's go. Have someone clean this place up. We mustn't delay the Mentor's burial."
Yan Xing headed toward the Lord's Mansion, leaving Hibel standing by Anderson's body. She cried loudly, her tears mingling with the rain.
Yan Xing had already figured out the entire sequence of events. Anderson approached Count Theodore, persuading him to lure Yan Xing to Nuta City for the assassination. Theodore agreed.
Yan Xing knew how deeply the massacre of nobles in Dawnspirit City, which he and Karol had perpetrated, had affected Theodore. Theodore was a conservative noble. He possessed the typical faults of the aristocracy but also adhered to their traditional virtues. The glory and continuation of his family were the bedrock of his actions. Yet, this honor had been shattered by the events in Dawnspirit City. That was why Theodore had agreed to Anderson's request.
But in the end, Theodore had still played a subtle game. He left the choice to his favorite daughter, allowing Hibel to decide the fate of the Theodore Family. If Hibel failed to discover the assassination plot or chose not to intervene, then regardless of its success or failure, she would bear no direct responsibility. However, if Hibel chose to stop the assassination, especially by appearing at the critical moment to save him... well, no service is greater than saving one's lord.
Anderson probably only understood the true depth of Count Theodore's scheme at the moment of his own death.
The old fox... even in death, he had maximized his own value to the very end.
As for how Theodore truly died, there was no need to delve deeper. It was better to let it rest. Some things were best left unsaid, to avoid making everyone uncomfortable.
Count Theodore's funeral took place in the rain. Many people attended. The old City Lord was known for loving lively events, so many citizens braved the downpour to come and lay a bouquet of flowers at his grave.
