Mercenary's War-Chapter 2072 - 2049: Forgotten Surveillance
The four people in the car were all observing Phoenix, and so far, except for the fact that Phoenix was a very unqualified driver, there was nothing else wrong.
"Her sense of direction should be fine. Can we just bring her onto the car? Following her is driving me crazy."
Little Donnie laughed and said, while Gao Yang waved his hand, saying, "No rush, let’s follow her a bit more; it won’t be easy to talk later if she comes up. Little Donnie, go find a machine gunner. Skill is key, personality doesn’t matter."
Little Donnie nodded and said, "Okay, I’ll send out the word. Why aren’t we considering personality this time? Isn’t it what you value most?"
Gao Yang said helplessly, "Because if we consider personality, there’d be too few people to choose from, and right now we’re in urgent need of an excellent machine gunner. Let’s find someone to fill the gap first; if their personality is bad, we can just get rid of them. If they’re a scumbag, we’ll take them out."
Little Donnie shrugged and said, "If we don’t consider that, it’s much easier. We could look for recently retired soldiers or poach well-known gunners from other mercenary groups."
"Yeah, no other requirements, just as long as they aren’t much worse than Big Dog."
Little Donnie immediately opened his mouth wide, glanced at the smiling Glolov in the back seat, and shook his head repeatedly, saying, "I’ll take back what I said; gunners aren’t easy to find. You have to give me time to scout them slowly."
Finished saying, Little Donnie complained, "There are too many gunners, and many excellent ones too, but like Big Dog, where do you want me to find one? Over the years, there’s only been one Machine Gun Artist, where can I find another!"
Gao Yang spread his hands and sighed, "Then just try to find the best you can."
Little Donnie chuckled bitterly, just shaking his head, then slowly said, "Let’s first talk about Phoenix. After sending her to Somalia, are we just going to evaluate her, or seize the opportunity...?"
Little Donnie gestured a slicing motion with his hand, implying whether they should find an opportunity to eliminate Phoenix. Once on the battlefield, making Phoenix’s death appear normal would be too easy.
Gao Yang had to take Phoenix, which Little Donnie of course knew, so he had to make some things clear in advance to avoid misunderstandings and wrong arrangements.
Gao Yang pondered for a moment, shook his head and said, "Let’s just carefully evaluate what value she has. Don’t worry about her background as a janitor for now; we can’t ascertain her origins. Handling her with the worst intentions isn’t appropriate. As long as she is indeed an exceptionally skilled sniper, it doesn’t matter if she has ties with janitors; we can find many uses for her."
In truth, Gao Yang really hoped Phoenix was a top sniper, because then he could have a good sniper at his disposal. Not to mention that it’s unclear if Phoenix has any connections with janitors; even if she does, Gao Yang has countless occasions where he could deploy Phoenix. At the very least, using Phoenix as cannon fodder would always be an option.
There is no shortage of snipers in this world, but top-tier snipers are always the rarest resource.
There are thousands of snipers; few are as strong as Gao Yang, and there are even more machine gunners, but how many are as strong as Glolov?
Speaking of which, for the standards Gao Yang expects, top snipers are actually easier to find than machine gunners.
Machine gunners are considered a very ordinary position in the army; even in the smallest squad, there would be a machine gunner, but being able to elevate machine gun handling to an art form, apart from Glolov, Gao Yang hasn’t seen anyone else like that, not even close.
Truthfully, Glolov is a rarer expert than Gao Yang, just with different specialties.
From frugality to luxury is easy, but from luxury to frugality is hard. Once you’ve had a taste of delicacies, plain fare becomes unpalatable. It’s the same principle; having spent time with a top-notch machine gunner, Gao Yang can’t really rate regular gunners anymore.
But Satan does need a good machine gunner; Satan started with only four members, and one gunner was enough, but now Satan has grown to over a dozen people, yet still relies on Glolov to handle all suppression and firepower tasks that should be undertaken by multiple machine gunners.
Glolov is a bit older, but his condition remains excellent without any sign of decline. However, always having Glolov perform the work of two or even three machine gunners isn’t sustainable. No accidents have occurred before, and none have occurred yet, but the scenarios Satan faces are becoming more significant; future dealings must be considered. If Glolov continues to bear the burden alone, should just one incident occur, it could lead to casualties.
Some situations can’t be avoided by skill and strength alone; for instance, as Satan’s front widens, the number of fire targets Glolov needs to suppress increases, or the battlefield he must manage expands. When the battlefield is too large, fire density inevitably decreases; this is an unsolvable issue. Another is if Glolov runs out of bullets, Satan loses machine gun cover and has to wait for Glolov to reload. Whereas if there are two machine gunners, the situation is naturally different.
The problem is where to find a machine gunner comparable to Glolov. Looking realistically, relying on Little Donnie to recruit normally seems unlikely.
We have what should be an exceptionally good sniper, but can’t trust to use them; we’re lacking a sufficiently skilled machine gunner, and simply can’t find one; these two issues are significantly troubling Gao Yang.
Thinking carefully about who could introduce a good machine gunner, Gao Yang fell into thought, then remembered the machine gunners from Aurora Mercenary Corps might be decent, maybe he could ask Alexander.
As Gao Yang hesitated about whether to call Alexander, his phone rang; seeing that it was Li Jinfang calling.
When Gao Yang answered the call, he was somewhat absent-minded, thinking Li Jinfang was unlikely to have anything urgent, probably just calling to invite him to dinner or discuss buying furniture or how to decorate the house—some trivial matter. But once he picked up, he realized Li Jinfang actually had something important and urgent.
"Eliza found anomalies in Djo Malthael’s house in French Nice from surveillance!"
Li Jinfang spoke urgently, and Gao Yang immediately sobered up, then quickly asked, "What’s the situation?"
Gao Yang spent a large sum to buy an address of Djo’s residence from Justin, then excitedly planned to eliminate Djo Malthael there, but eventually failed. Since then, they installed surveillance in the rented house, with Eliza, Little Donnie’s assistant, managing it and continuously monitoring Djo Malthael’s house. With current technologies, even thousands of miles away, surveillance facilities in France can be controlled via the internet.
A long time had passed, and Gao Yang nearly forgot the surveillance set up in French Nice was still operational, then suddenly, unexpectedly, the almost forgotten surveillance proved valuable.
