Mercenary's War-Chapter 2022 - 1999: Are You Ready?
After spending a day at Jack’s studio, Gao Yang went to Morgan’s house in the afternoon.
The outside of Morgan’s house seemed deserted, which was quite normal, but Gao Yang, familiar with the situation, knew Morgan’s home security had been fully upgraded.
He stopped at the gate and only after a security guard contacted Simon was Gao Yang allowed into the yard.
Gao Yang got out of the car and walked straight to Morgan’s large living room where Simon was already waiting for him at the door, and then Gao Yang followed Simon directly upstairs.
It was still a very large living room with a circle of old-fashioned sofas. Underneath the two portraits on the wall was a gun rack holding the gun Gao Yang had painstakingly retrieved for Morgan — Morgan’s mother’s lost hunting gun. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Originally, there wasn’t supposed to be a second gun in the room, but now it was filled haphazardly with guns. Morgan had had boxes brought in, which were now open and stacked, with guns taken out and spread all over the room.
Morgan was sitting on the sofa, holding a magnifying glass, carefully observing a hunting rifle in front of him. Upon hearing the noise, he spoke loudly without lifting his head, "Come and check out this gun. This one’s a masterpiece, widely produced but rarely seen nowadays."
Gao Yang sat down next to Morgan, who handed him the magnifying glass, and with a rosy face, said, "Look, this gun wasn’t made by a gunsmith but by a Czech gun factory between 1860 and 1880, a very fine hunting gun mainly used for fox hunting. I’m not very familiar with this type of gun, but I’ve seen it at a friend’s place before; it’s quite nice."
Gao Yang picked up the magnifying glass, looked for a while, then asked loudly, "What’s it worth?"
"Around twenty to thirty thousand dollars. Given this gun’s preserved state, it might sell for as high as fifty thousand dollars."
Gao Yang sighed and laughed, "It’s not very valuable then."
Morgan said with displeasure, "How can value only be measured by price!"
Gao Yang quickly replied, "Yes, yes, the true value of an old gun can’t just be measured by price. But rarity and scarcity do seem to increase its price, don’t they? I’m just trying to quickly assess its value through price."
Morgan rubbed his hands together with a difficult expression, "I like this gun, but I have a friend who specifically collects this model. I’m torn whether to give it to him or exchange it for a gun I’m interested in. Oh, being a collector at this stage really brings happiness and trouble."
Gao Yang gestured with his hand, laughing, "There are a hundred guns at least in this room. It’s not a big deal to give away a few."
Morgan shook his head, "Hey, hey, don’t talk nonsense. I’ve already set aside your guns. You can decide where to send them yourself."
Gao Yang thought about categorizing his favorite old guns on his farm and couldn’t help but swallow, "It’s indeed a moment of happiness."
Simon coughed softly and said in a low voice, "Boss, you should eat something."
Morgan waved his hand, laughing, "I’m not hungry. Simon, open another box."
Simon picked up a crowbar, his face full of helplessness, and shot Gao Yang a look.
Gao Yang immediately asked, "You haven’t been looking since morning, have you?"
Morgan, his face glowing, laughed, "Yes, this is only halfway through. I must say Poloneshenko has a certain level in collecting; everything’s a masterpiece, all worthy of close inspection. Simon, open the box."
Gao Yang coughed lightly and loudly said, "Morgan, you should eat something and take a break. Ass Face, bring Morgan some food."
Morgan said with impatience, "You have an appetite at a time like this? Don’t joke around. Hurry up, I want to look at more guns before the evening party starts; the cocktail party is about to begin. That’s when I’ll eat."
The so-called cocktail party isn’t a time for eating. Morgan is busy welcoming guests; there’s no time for other things.
Gao Yang pointed to the boxes in the room, smiled, and then said to Morgan, "They’re mine."
Morgan looked at Gao Yang, shook his head, and laughed, "No, they are mine."
Gao Yang shook his head, "No, no, no, I said you can have all you like, but I didn’t say I’d give them all to you. The ones already opened are ones you like, but those unopened are mine. So what I’m saying makes sense, right? Old man, you should eat something instead of admiring guns that belong to me. Once you’ve eaten, I’ll officially give them all to you."
Morgan sighed, "No, these guns are in my house, so they’re mine. No matter what you say, I’m not playing word games with you. They’re all mine."
Gao Yang laughed, "You’re robbing me!"
Morgan spread his hands, laughed, "Do you think I acquired my fortune any other way? Gao, when it comes to robbery, I’m more skilled than you."
After laughing heartily, Morgan waved his hand and said loudly, "Alright, since these guns are already mine, I’ll enjoy them slowly. Simon, bring me some snacks."
Simon is Morgan’s bodyguard, a trusted confidant, but he’s still a bodyguard. Certain boundaries can’t be crossed, no matter how close. Gao Yang, however, shares a complex relationship with Morgan.
Morgan chose to give Bob a stable and comfortable future, but gave Gao Yang a vast inheritance and power. By blood, Bob is his son, but in some respects, Morgan also chose Gao Yang as his successor, like a son.
After Simon left, Morgan rubbed his forehead and said to Gao Yang in a low voice, "Tonight, some senators from Oregon State will come, including the Speaker, and two officials from Portland City. They’re my political allies. I’ll formally introduce you to them.’
Gao Yang nodded slightly and replied in a low voice, "Understood."
Morgan chuckled softly, "Starting tonight, you’ll be stepping onto the stage in my circle. Are you ready?"
Gao Yang hesitantly said, "So soon."
Morgan smiled, "It has to be quick. Although the doctors say I have three to five years, what if there’s an accident? Besides, you’re just stepping onto the stage, not taking over everything immediately. What are you afraid of?"
Gao Yang chuckled softly, "It’s not fear; it’s a bit of nervousness. Okay, nervousness is fear. I’m just not psychologically prepared."
Morgan patted Gao Yang’s shoulder with a smile, "Don’t worry. What’s happening here won’t be more complicated than what you’ve done before."
After comforting Gao Yang, Morgan whispered, "Tonight, it’s about officially signaling that you’ll be the future successor of this group. So after tonight, you might encounter some unforeseen dangers. Are you prepared?"
Gao Yang smiled slightly and said in a low voice, "I’m worried I might not do well, which puts some pressure on me, but I’m not afraid of any danger."
