Mercenary's War-Chapter 2020 - 1997: With a Clear Conscience
I know I can act brazenly and openly, and feel fully justified in making a fortune off the person, and it’s a sum I surely can get my hands on; it’s absolutely exhilarating.
Gao Yang felt assured, so he was completely unconcerned with Jack’s skepticism. He simply pulled out his phone, gestured for Jack to keep quiet, and immediately dialed a number.
For mercenaries, the phone either never goes through, or there’s always someone available to answer 24/7. Alexander’s situation was the latter, as Gao Yang’s call was answered immediately after a couple of rings.
"Who is this?"
"Ram."
"Any news?"
"Yes, you give Ten million dollars, I’ll give you a sample gun for test shooting. If you’re satisfied, I’ll take the money and the gun, then give you five new guns. If you’re not satisfied, I’ll return the money and take back the gun. How about that?"
"Why so quick? I’m suspicious you premeditated to swindle me, buddy."
"Just a coincidence, my friend is interested in your gun and took it for a little modification himself. Believe it or not, it’s your call."
"Ram wouldn’t deceive me for a mere Ten million dollars, I trust you. But why would you take the sample gun away?"
"Because I need it. I can’t wait for my friend to finish making your gun before crafting another one for me, so I have to take the sample gun, buddy." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Alexander exhaled loudly, saying: "So when and where to meet for the gun inspection?"
"The time, well, any day after tomorrow is fine. As for the location, it depends on where it’s convenient for me."
"Alright, alright, sounds like you’re confident. I have a question, Ram, I’m paying Ten million dollars, you have to let me see the gunsmith, I need to discuss with him, how about it?"
"Not sure, it depends if my friend is willing to meet, buddy. One more thing, this gunsmith friend of mine, he has an advanced modification plan for your gun; the effect, well, you’ll know when you see it. I want to ask, are you willing to purchase this advanced modification plan? We should respect intellectual property."
Alexander paused for a moment before saying sternly: "But I’m not very confident in that because I believe my gun’s design has reached optimal; I’m very confident about this. However, if your friend indeed has an advanced modification plan, I’m willing to pay another Ten million. I’ve said it, I don’t care about money, I only aim for the best. But buddy, if you’re bluffing, that’s not going to end well."
Gao Yang sighed, smiling: "You don’t have to pay another Ten million, just give Five million, give you a little discount. We’re so familiar, there ought to be a friendship price, rest assured, I’ll handle my friend, buddy you save Five million dollars, wait for my message on meeting location, that’s it for now."
Gao Yang found himself increasingly adept at being a shrewd businessman, but unfortunately, he didn’t plan on being a black-hearted dealer. Otherwise, with just small tricks between Alexander and Jack, he could easily take away nine million out of the Ten million, and both Alexander and Jack would have to thank him profusely.
Hanging up the call, Gao Yang spread his hands at Jack and smiled: "Heard it?"
Jack nodded, dazedly: "Heard it."
"What do you think?"
"Turns out there really are fools in the world..."
"I’m asking if you’re willing to meet him."
"Buddy, our workshop is right here, your friend can absolutely bring the gun over to me for handcrafted adjustment. This would cost him around Two hundred thousand US dollars, and I’d tell him where to make improvements. That’s part of my service for Two hundred thousand US dollars, but now, he’s offering Fifteen Million Dollars, huh, are we discussing and looking down on a generous customer like this, isn’t it a bit inappropriate?"
Gao Yang helplessly said: "You’re avoiding the question, brother."
Jack rubbed his mouth vigorously, then gulped a bottle of beer, loud and clear: "Buddy, I need to see him, maintaining long-term collaboration with such a good customer is for the best."
Gao Yang nodded, laughing: "Exactly, such good people are hard to find. Hmm, this fellow was a mercenary, but now he’s retired. He sure has some black history, but now probably won’t carry much trouble. You should face no danger if you meet him, yet I advise caution; after all, you’re dealing with seasoned mercenaries, the legendary type."
Jack scratched his head, resolutely, "See him!"
Gao Yang immediately picked up the phone, redialed to Alexander, and smiled: "You’re really lucky, my friend agreed to meet you. Give a location, we’ll come to you."
"I’m in Denver, I can pick you up when you arrive."
Gao Yang frowned thoughtfully, loudly: "Denver, it’s quite far, hold on."
Covering the receiver, Gao Yang asked Jack: "Could he come to you? Would you mind?"
Jack pondered for a moment, nodded: "Let him come, everything following standard procedures, this actually works better for me, just treat him as a regular customer."
Gao Yang released the receiver, smiled: "You’re really lucky, come to Portland, once here, call me and someone will pick you up, buddy, now get ready to transfer the funds. Not that I doubt you, but this isn’t my business, Fifteen million dollars, I’ll send over the account shortly, that’s it."
He hung up the phone, looked at Jack, smiling: "How do you plan to receive this payment, your personal account or open a secret account for you?"
Jack rubbed his hands, nervous: "Such a massive amount, won’t there be problems? Should we fabricate a transaction record? Otherwise, isn’t there a risk with this payment? I’m a bit nervous, it’s an astronomical sum!"
Gao Yang laughed: "Alright, deposit the money into my account, then there will be clean money reaching your account, about fourteen million. Those doing the laundering ask a hefty fee, but it’s absolutely safe."
Jack remained somewhat nervous, rubbing his hands, whispering: "Good, good, very good, can I have all this money? You’re the middleman, couldn’t make this deal without you, hmm, I’m satisfied with Five million, truly, I can’t be greedy."
Gao Yang patted Jack, laughing: "Alright, I’m not greedy either. If you wish to thank me, a Blade of Satan is already sufficient. But, like I said, you’d better help me faster and better create the gun; we’re waiting to use it."
Jack glanced at Peter, then at Gao Yang, looking distressed, saying: "I can’t do it now, truly impossible, my heart is racing, my hands are trembling, at this moment I can’t work, absolutely not."
