Mercenary God: Reborn with a talent for fighting.-Chapter 30: Ch His image.
Before Abel Bladeheart had taken center stage as the face of the new generation of warriors, there was Gilhunt Bladeheart.
He was the first and only child of Kain Bladeheart and, on his evaluation day, had been graded with a platinum core rank just like his father.
At that time, nobody expected a second coming of Klaus... he was an anomaly.
Someone considered a once-in-a-lifetime genius, so Gilhunt and the rest of the scions of the family had been satisfied with such a result.
A platinum core meant he had the potential to stand alongside some of the most skilled and powerful knights of the Emperor.
He was glad... everyone was glad until years later when the second anomaly of the family was graded.
----------
Gilhunt, a man in his late twenties with a bulky form, chiseled and defined muscles, and a wild but equally handsome face, stood before his father.
His expression was completely neutral.
A day from now, he would face Abel, his cousin, and to him, the results were clear.
There was no victory in sight... just plain humiliation on his path.
To be so outclassed by a youth he surpassed by a decade was saddening, but that was the essence of life.
Some people were born stronger than others.
But those same people also had individuals who far surpassed them.
Gilhunt believed himself to be superior in strength to most of his peers.
So he wasn’t particularly mad after his loss had already been set in stone. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Why should he be envious when he fared better than most?
That was his creed and the sole revenge he could get on his father after the shitty effect he had on him.
"Envy is a rather twisted emotion."
Choosing to confront his father now, he began.
"You spent years under the shadow of your brother. Unwilling to accept the fact he was better than you in any way."
Kain didn’t react much; he was used to those words.
It was an attempt to scorn him, to remind him he was inferior.
The other Elders had told him that, the woman he had once loved told him that, Azazel also, his own father too, and now his son.
He had heard them so many times, he was beginning to grow bored of it.
Envy was a sin and the authority of one of the demon generals.
To feel envy could lead to demonization, but he was already a sinner, so why shouldn’t he sin by feeling envy?
"A better man, a be..."
"Let me guess—husband, father, knight, brother, uncle, hero..."
Grabbing his son by the shoulder, Kain interrupted and applied enough force to cause him to yield.
"You didn’t invent that statement. I’ve been told those words even before your birth. You’re no exception—just a useless tool that can’t even inherit the one thing I have."
"..What couldn’t I inherit? Tell me!" Gilhunt, struggling to stand, screamed, desperately trying to know what he did to deserve a father as unloving as his.
"Ha... my envy!" Kain commented and shoved him back, a look of annoyance flashing in his eyes.
As Gilhunt staggered back, he paused and grabbed him by the shoulder before he could fall.
"Listen here, kid. I fucked your mother so I could create a perfect replica of me. One who would carry out my legacy in case I ever failed to deliver on my promise or revenge against my brother. I wanted you to despise him as much as I did. I expected after Abel’s grading you would understand how I feel but....."
His tone grew sorrowful and mournful as he continued with sunken eyes.
"You are so useless," he said and shoved Gilhunt back again, this time the force launching him with even more weight, leading to him bashing into the wall.
"Cough–!"
His body was unharmed, courtesy of his S-rank constitution, but Kain wasn’t done as he closed the gap with a step, appearing before Gilhunt with his hand stretched.
Gilhunt tried to move away from his grab, but Kain’s left knee pivoted forward and clashed into his chest, pinning him painfully against the wall, which began to crack.
"Cough–!"
His coughs, wet with blood, stained the tiled floor while Kain withdrew his knee and grabbed him by the face, pushing his head back with incredible force, trying his best to merge his head with the wall.
"You never listened to my instructions!" he whispered, forcing Gilhunt’s head into the wall.
"To hurt... those kids like you tricked Selena into doing."
"Tricked?" Kain laughed at his son’s desperate accusations.
Without a second delay, his other hand whipped into a punch and nailed him in the gut.
The wall crumbled, and Gilhunt fell on the other side, clutching his stomach in pain.
"I gave that brat an alternative—to either toughen my nephew up or I’d do it myself. After all, we Bladehearts abolish weakness."
"You cruel..."
Before Gilhunt could finish, Kain attempted to stomp on his throat to shut him up. After all, he didn’t need his voice to fight, and yet...
Thub–!
A transparent sphere manifested between his foot and his son, blocking his attack barely.
Narrowing his eyes, he looked ahead and found his mistress, Orchid, smiling... a dangerous smile.
"Mother!" Gilhunt panicked and quickly stood up. Orchid, on the other hand, walked toward him.
For a moment, the mother and son were engaged in a silent stare-down before Gilhunt bit his lip in anger.
"You know he’s wrong... we all do, and yet you still stand by his side. Just why?"
He poured out his heart as he grabbed a hold of his mother, pleading for her to end this.
Orchid, her expression masked by the hood of her cloak, offered no answer.
Seeing this, Gilhunt, fed up with both of them, stepped back, his expression blank and full of defeat.
To have these kinds of parents, he would never wish it upon his greatest enemies.
Choosing to no longer spare them a glance, he walked past his mother, having already decided she was no longer worth his tears.
