Chapter 25: Chapter 25

Only after Ye Xiu was seated did the rest of the Qin Family finally take their seats, all beaming, but uncomfortably restrained.

"Ye Xiu, this is a fine wine treasured by the old master. He usually can’t bear to part with it, but today, we have you to thank for this treat," Qin Zhongwu said with a grin, pouring Ye Xiu a glass.

Ye Xiu just gave a dry laugh.

"Come, let’s all toast to Ye Xiu and Qin Qing on getting their marriage certificate," Qin Fugui said, rising with his glass in hand.

Ye Xiu, Qin Qing, and the Qin family members all quickly stood, clinking their glasses together in high spirits.

After that, the family found all sorts of reasons to toast Ye Xiu and Qin Qing, lavishing them with praise so fawning it made their skin crawl.

Halfway through the wine, Qin Fugui finally asked, "Ye Xiu, when do you and Qin Qing plan to hold the wedding?"

He was finally getting to the point. This was the real question, and it was what the Qin family was most worried about. Once Ye Xiu and Qin Qing had their wedding, the news of Ye Xiu’s return to the country and his relationship with the Qin Family could no longer be concealed. At that point, the Qin Family would face immense danger and challenges. They all hoped Ye Xiu and Qin Qing would postpone the wedding for the time being, but they had to bring it up.

"Let’s wait a while," Ye Xiu said. "Qin Qing just took over Zhulu Group and needs some time to familiarize herself with the company’s personnel and business operations." This was the excuse he and Qin Qing had come up with on the way over.

The members of the Qin Family breathed a collective sigh of relief.

"Okay, we’ll listen to you!" Qin Fugui’s smile grew even wider. "Come on, eat some more..."

The endless chatter left Ye Xiu and Qin Qing’s ears ringing. Ye Xiu was fine, as he was used to hearing sycophantic flattery. Qin Qing, however, had never been subjected to so many sweet nothings in her entire life.

After the meal, they drank tea for a while before Ye Xiu and Qin Qing found an excuse to leave.

After taking Qin Qing home, Ye Xiu walked to Zhu Xiaowen’s house. It turned out to be on the island right next to his home.

Neighbors!

It wasn’t yet nine in the evening when Ye Xiu arrived at Zhu Xiaowen’s place, but it was already bustling with activity. Under twinkling neon lights, a large crowd of young men and women gathered around the pool and on the lawn. The party hadn’t officially started yet, so they were chatting in small groups.

A bunch of bumpkins! I thought a party hosted by the scions and young ladies of the domestic elite would have some class. This scene is hardly better than a cheap street performance.

But damn, the women are all gorgeous!

"Well now, whose toy boy is this? Wow, he’s so handsome..." a beautiful woman said as she walked over, eyeing Ye Xiu with a lovestruck expression.

Heh! You’re the toy boy. Your whole family is toy boys!

"He’s mine, all mine..." Zhu Xiaowen ran over and grabbed Ye Xiu’s arm. As if afraid someone would snatch him away, she quickly asserted her ownership.

The commotion caught everyone’s attention, and soon all the clothed men and women had gathered around. These were the true stars of the party, dressed to the nines and exuding an air of superiority. The other men were shirtless, and the women were in swimwear. They were all playthings for the elite sons and daughters.

"Not bad, Xiaowen. Where did you dig up such fine merchandise?"

"Tsk tsk, first-rate looks, first-rate temperament, and still so composed in front of us. A real gem."

"A bit thin, but handsome. Easy on the eyes, too."

The wealthy young ladies gathered around Ye Xiu, appraising him as if he were a pet.

"All of you, go find something else to play with," Zhu Xiaowen said irritably, shielding Ye Xiu. "Aren’t there enough muscular men here for you? No one is allowed to compete with me for him. If anyone tries, I’ll have a real problem with them."

The young masters and ladies all burst into laughter.

A girl holding a dog leash spoke up, "Xiaowen, your dog is much better than mine. Can I borrow him for a few days?"

The girl looked quite cute. At first glance, one might mistake her for an innocent young lady, unaware of the ways of the world. But her words dealt a critical blow to the egos of all the "toy boys" present. Moreover, the leash in her hand wasn’t attached to a dog; it was fastened around the neck of a muscular man who was kneeling on the ground in a crawling position.

Treating people like dogs! Outrageous!

"Miss, if you keep mistreating him like this, he might not live much longer," Ye Xiu couldn’t help but chime in.

The girl was taken aback. "My ’Wang Cai’ is very strong, and I feed him lots of supplements every day."

"He’s too weak to absorb all those supplements, you know," Ye Xiu said, speechless. "A sudden fit of rage will be enough to kill him!"

The group exchanged puzzled glances.

The girl turned to Zhu Xiaowen and asked, "Did you find yourself a fortune teller?"

"HAHAHAHA..." Everyone roared with laughter.

"He must be saying that for your benefit, Xiaowen. He’s probably afraid you’d mistreat him the same way."

"Looks like Xiaowen got herself a scheming dog, huh."

The young masters and ladies mocked Ye Xiu one after another.

Embarrassed, Zhu Xiaowen glared at Ye Xiu, feeling that he had disgraced her. She scolded him softly, "Just worry about yourself. What business is it of yours if other people live or die?"

Ye Xiu gave another dry laugh.

These well-dressed beasts are more ruthless than even I am, and I’m Huang Quan. They don’t value human life at all.

"AH..."

Just then, ’Wang Cai’ suddenly cried out in pain and collapsed. He began to convulse on the ground, foaming at the mouth. Grinding his teeth in agony, he squeezed out a plea for help, "Help... save me... quick, call an ambulance..."

"This..."

The young masters and ladies were all caught off guard by the sudden turn of events.

I had just said the man’s end was near, and as if on cue, ’Wang Cai’ immediately cooperated.

"Stop faking it! If you want to act, do it at home. Don’t you know where you are?" the girl snapped, kicking ’Wang Cai’.

"Well, I never knew," Zhu Xiaowen said, seizing the opportunity for a jab. "Your ’Wang Cai’ is quite the actor. It seems he’s not very happy with you either."

Flushed with embarrassment and anger, the girl stomped a foot on ’Wang Cai’s’ face. "Still pretending? Get up right now, or I’m going to get angry."

"He’s not pretending," Ye Xiu said. "He has epilepsy, and the physical exhaustion has just triggered acute renal failure. With both conditions flaring up at once, his life is in grave danger!"

Everyone stared, stunned.

On closer inspection, they realized that ’Wang Cai’ truly wasn’t faking it. Not even the best actor could mimic the agony he was in. His body was convulsing, his face was turning a purplish-red, his eyes were rolling back into his head, and he was foaming at the mouth. It was unmistakably an epileptic seizure.

Now the girl and everyone else present began to panic, especially the girl. Although she enjoyed abusing ’Wang Cai’ and didn’t particularly value his life, she had never intended to torture him to death. Moreover, if ’Wang Cai’ died from this fit right here in front of everyone, she would be seen as the murderer. If word of this got out, it would be a massive scandal for her family.
