Medical and Martial God-Chapter 180: Panic
"Don’t touch me!" Murong said with disgust as she shook off Luo Kun. "What era are we in that you still believe in something like an engagement? Besides, I’ve never acknowledged it."
Luo Kun wasn’t at all angered by Murong’s disgust. He kept a cheeky grin on his face and said, "I don’t like engagements either, but I’ll work hard to make you fall in love with me and willingly marry me."
"Heh. Sorry to disappoint you, but I already have a boyfriend," Murong shrugged and turned to walk away.
Luo Kun was startled, then chased after her with the same cheeky grin. "Even if you want to get rid of me, you could at least find a better excuse. The ’I have a boyfriend’ trick is too cliché."
Murong was about to retort when she suddenly saw Ye Xiu approaching. "See? My boyfriend is here," she said.
With that, she bounced over and threw herself into Ye Xiu’s arms, cooing, "Darling, what took you so long? I’ve been waiting for ages!"
Ye Xiu was caught completely off guard by Murong’s lunge. What’s going on? I’m just supposed to be playing a role. Since when did hugs become part of the deal? Still, he played along. "Something came up and held me back. You’re not mad, are you?"
"Of course not." Murong playfully linked her arm with Ye Xiu’s and turned to Luo Kun. "Now do you believe I have a boyfriend, Luo Kun?"
Luo Kun was completely dumbfounded. He genuinely hadn’t expected Murong to actually produce a man. However, he didn’t get angry like some rash, impulsive man. Instead, he walked over with that same cheeky grin.
He proactively extended a hand. "Hello, I’m Murong’s fiancé, Luo Kun. It’s a pleasure to meet you."
"How much of a pleasure?" Ye Xiu asked with a smile, shaking his hand.
"Ah?"
Luo Kun’s train of thought was completely derailed by the question. Is this guy brain-damaged? According to normal etiquette, after I introduced myself and showed goodwill, shouldn’t he say his name and reciprocate? I even said I was Murong’s fiancé! Shouldn’t he be embarrassed, or angry, or questioning Murong or something?
Though he was grumbling internally, Luo Kun recovered after a moment’s shock, his cheeky grin still in place. "I love making new friends. I’m delighted to make one so soon after arriving in Jin Ye City."
"You’re delighted too soon," Ye Xiu stated.
Luo Kun nearly choked. He prided himself on his excellent eloquence and skill in interpersonal relationships, but Ye Xiu’s response left him completely speechless. Is this guy a conversation Terminator?
Murong was already bursting with laughter at the side. She never expected Ye Xiu to confront Luo Kun so directly and leave him utterly speechless. Impressive, Teacher Ye! She finally said, "Alright, let’s go."
"Okay," Ye Xiu nodded.
The two walked ahead, leaving Luo Kun trailing behind, on the verge of a mental breakdown. He had to watch his own fiancée on the arm of another man, flaunting their affection right in his face. Suddenly, Luo Kun felt as if a searing green light was shining down on his head. It was a green that brought panic! A green that brought irritation!
He hurried his steps to walk alongside Murong. "Murong, I had the Jin Ye City branch office send a car. You two don’t need to take a taxi."
The subtext was clear: a reminder that Ye Xiu was poor. As the young master of the Luo Family, Luo Kun could tell at a glance that all the clothes Ye Xiu wore were cheap.
"I drove," Ye Xiu said.
"Can your car be more comfortable than the one from the branch office?" Luo Kun retorted.
"What kind of car did the branch send for you?" Ye Xiu asked.
"Look!" Luo Kun pointed to a nearby Mercedes. "That one. Is your car better than a Mercedes?"
"See the Bentley in front of the Mercedes? That’s mine," Ye Xiu said.
Luo Kun was speechless. The flex failed!
At that moment, Luo Kun’s interest in Ye Xiu’s identity was piqued. "By the way, I still don’t know your name. What is it?"
Ye Xiu thought for a moment. "Easius."
Luo Kun paused. "Are you from Sang Jing?"
Murong nearly choked on her laughter. Ea-sius... Y-e... X-iu... Ye Xiu! He actually twisted his own name!
"Are you riding in my car, or the one from your branch?" Ye Xiu asked, ignoring Luo Kun’s question.
"I’ll take the one from the branch office." How could Luo Kun possibly ride in his love rival’s car? Besides, he was already planning on having someone investigate this "Easius."
"Alright then." Ye Xiu nodded, paying Luo Kun no more mind.
After getting in the car, Ye Xiu asked, "Shall I take you to Saint He Medical College?"
Murong suddenly looked awkward. "Teacher Ye, you’ll probably have to meet my family. Luo Kun will be there, too."
"Your family is in Jin Ye City?" Ye Xiu paused, then had a realization. "Did your family participate in the War God Assessment?"
"Yes," Murong nodded. "My family is very fond of Luo Kun, so you might have to put up with some unpleasantness when you meet them."
"I don’t mind that," Ye Xiu said. "What I’m interested in is this: you have the Yin Poison Body. Without the Cold Ice Technique I taught you, you won’t live past thirty. Why would the Luo Family let Luo Kun marry someone fated to die young?"
"A political marriage, of course," Murong said bitterly. "Because I was born with the Yin Poison Body, my family disdains me. They treated me as a political sacrifice in exchange for the Luo Family’s wealth. You see, the Luo Family is a rich and powerful great clan from Hanyun with an interest in Ancient Martial Arts. My father took Luo Kun as his disciple, and to solidify the ties between the Mu and Luo families, they arranged our engagement."
Ye Xiu was astonished. The Mu Family has been farmers for generations. I can’t believe they’ve started chasing after money too.
Murong continued, "Actually, the Luo Family is starting to have some regrets now."
"How so?" Ye Xiu asked.
"You might not know this, Teacher Ye, but Luo Kun was born intellectually disabled. That’s the only reason the Luo Family agreed to let him marry me, a ’short-lived ghost’," Murong said. "That’s because he was in a very serious car accident five years ago that disfigured his face. But the strange thing is, he recovered in less than six months and suddenly became extremely intelligent. The Luo Family’s current success is largely due to him; after recovering from the accident, he displayed an astonishing talent for business."
Ye Xiu’s eyes narrowed as he listened. In fact, the first time I saw Luo Kun, I could tell he’d had plastic surgery. It was done perfectly, but it couldn’t fool a Divine Doctor like me. So it was because of a car accident. Still, someone born intellectually disabled would never become a genius because of a car wreck.
He asked, "Since Luo Kun is your father’s disciple, what’s his cultivation level?"
"He has no talent for martial arts. The Luo Family had to shower him with all sorts of treasures just to get him to the Fourth Grade," Murong said.
"Fourth Grade?" Ye Xiu’s eyes sharpened. From what I can sense, Luo Kun is a true super-expert with the power of a War God. How could he possibly have no talent for martial arts?
