Chapter 78: Chapter 78: The Secret in the Cloakroom
Chapter 78 -78: The Secret in the Cloakroom
“Sometimes I just can’t stop myself from snacking.”
Tong Jialu took out the ground coffee, packed it down, and began to extract it with some ice cubes she fetched from the fridge.
She walked over with two packs of chips and handed one to Chen Cheng, saying,
“Brother Cheng, try these.
They’re a new flavor I discovered recently, crawfish-flavored.
I find them really tasty.”
After saying that, she felt that something was off.
Tong Jialu started thinking about what Xia Yubing would do in such a situation.
So, she opened the bag of chips, took one out, and brought it to Chen Cheng’s lips,
“Brother Cheng, give it a try.”
A smile curved up the corners of Chen Cheng’s mouth as he accepted Tong Jialu’s feeding gesture.
The crunching of the chips accompanied by the coffee machine’s beeping resounded throughout the house.
Tong Jialu trotted off to get Chen Cheng the coffee and came back to his side, sitting down.
“Brother Cheng, taste the coffee I made and see if it’s to your liking.”
Chen Cheng said with a smile, “I thought it was hand-ground.”
“What?
You want hand-ground?” Tong Jialu hurriedly got up again, “Then I’ll go look for that grinder.”
Chen Cheng grabbed her hand, “There’s no rush, sit down.”
“Oh~”
As the two sat on the couch, Tong Jialu wasn’t as proactive as Xia Yubing.
She placed her hands on her knees, sitting up straight, not daring to move a muscle.
On the TV, a rerun of Crayon Shin-chan was on, the episode where Shiro gets lost.
And though that was Tong Jialu’s favorite show, her thoughts were no longer on it.
Her gaze occasionally flitted to Chen Cheng drinking his coffee, unconsciously pursing her lips, recalling the assertive kiss in the back seat of Da Lao.
“Do I have something on my face?”
Chen Cheng asked, looking in the direction of the TV.
Tong Jialu shook her head, “No…”
Chen Cheng leaned back in his chair, casually draping one arm over the edge of the sofa and cleared his throat softly.
Tong Jialu immediately understood, snuggling up like an obedient little kitten into the embrace of her master.
That’s when Chen Cheng realized, the two sisters were indeed different.
Not only did they have different preferences in the brands of stockings, but their scents were also different.
Xia Yubing liked to wear perfume, whereas Tong Jialu smelled faintly of shower gel.
He played with her hair and said, “You and your sister are really different.”
Tong Jialu looked up, her eyes filled with curiosity, “In what way are we different?”
“She’s like a thorny rose, glamorous and dangerous.”
“And you, you’re like the morning dew, fresh and natural.”
Upon hearing this, Tong Jialu’s cheeks blushed slightly.
In a low voice, she said, “Brother Cheng, which kind do you like?”
Chen Cheng looked into her eyes, tenderly saying,
“Each has its own beauty, and I appreciate the differences.
But at this moment, I’m enjoying the time spent with you the most.”
Tong Jialu felt her heart touched lightly by something, her heartbeat quickened, and her cheeks grew even hotter.
She rested her head in Chen Cheng’s arms, her voice quivering slightly, “Brother Cheng, me too.”
Her little feet happily wiggled.
Tong Jialu thought the non-dominant Chen Cheng could be quite considerate too.
Crayon Shin-chan continued on the TV, but before long, it was dinner time.
Tong Jialu asked, “Brother Cheng, will you stay for dinner?”
“Shall we order takeout?”
“I’m not very good at cooking,” Tong Jialu admitted, feeling embarrassed.
Chen Cheng let go of her hand and said, “Go ahead and order.
I’ll let Xiao Hai fend for himself.”
“Sure!” Tong Jialu readily agreed, “What would you like to eat?
Grilled fish, fried chicken, or perhaps spaghetti, steak, burgers?”
Chen Cheng sent a message to Chen Donghai, then said with a tease, “By the looks of you, you’re not aiming to lose weight!”
“Sometimes I just can’t help myself!
It’s a cheat meal, once a week.” Tong Jialu opened the takeout app, “So, shall I just go ahead and decide?”
“Mhm.”
Chen Cheng stood up and walked towards the water dispenser, filled a cup, but his gaze drifted towards the end of the hallway, at several firmly shut doors.
“Xiao Lu, can you give me a tour?” He felt that despite the sisters’ somewhat flashy and materialistic style, their aesthetic was still on point.
It also provided him with some inspiration for the house he was planning to redecorate.
Tong Jialu ordered two portions of steak and readily agreed again: “Sure.”
Chen Cheng, carrying his cup of water, followed behind her.
“This is the storage room; we just keep some rarely used items here.” Tong Jialu opened the first door, which revealed some cardboard boxes and daily tools inside.
Chen Cheng glanced around, “What about the one across?
Oh, right.
Your bedroom.”
Tong Jialu smiled, turned, and opened the door to her own bedroom.
The pink decoration style was just as uniform as the doormat at the entrance.
Hello Kitty dolls could be found everywhere, the bed was a princess bed, and even the bed sheets were pink.
It was clear that deep down in her heart, Tong Jialu really wanted to be a princess pampered by others.
“Shulin’s bedroom is ahead.”
Tong Jialu led the way to the end of the hallway, placed her hand on the doorknob, and gently pressed it down.
Chen Cheng peeked inside; it was just like Xia Yubing’s usual style, the main bedroom’s black, white, and gray palette gave off a strikingly oppressive atmosphere.
“Can people really sleep in here?” He muttered to himself, walking in.
The dressing table was covered with various luxury cosmetics and perfumes, even the direction of each bottle’s opening was consistent.
Tong Jialu shrugged her shoulders, “She probably can?
I’ve never heard my cousin complaining about sleep problems.”
Chen Cheng didn’t linger too long and pointed at the room opposite Xia Yubing’s bedroom, asking, “Is that the dressing room?”
“Yep!” Tong Jialu nodded, “It’s split between my cousin and me.”
Only then did Chen Cheng remember why the sisters’ bedrooms seemed so spacious despite not being particularly large.
They didn’t have built-in wardrobes.
Tong Jialu led the way and opened the last door.
Three walls were filled with top-to-ceiling wardrobes with glass doors, revealing the clothes inside.
In the center of the room stood a leather bench, not unlike what one might see in a luxury store.
And it only took one glance for Chen Cheng to distinguish their respective sides.
“Left side is hers, right side is yours, right?” he asked with a smile.
Tong Jialu covered her mouth, giggling, “Brother Cheng, you’re amazing!
You could tell with just one look!”
“It’s quite obvious.” Chen Cheng walked in, “She likes to dress maturely; you dress more lively.”
Upon turning his head, Chen Cheng’s eyes went wide.
Near the door, the wardrobe was filled with all sorts of lingerie, some of which consisted of merely two thin strings.
To call this a dressing room was an understatement; it was more of a battle garment exhibit.
Tong Jialu hadn’t thought of this, after all, she and her sister hadn’t worn these for half a month.
“Brother Cheng…
those things…” she stepped between Chen Cheng and the wardrobe, “We forgot to tidy up!
Next time, you won’t see them.”
Chen Cheng pushed past Tong Jialu and asked, “Did Wen Shulin ask you to wear these?”
Tong Jialu nodded in acknowledgement.
Chen Cheng opened the wardrobe, his finger gliding over the countless garments, and asked, “Has she been to your house too?”
