Maximize Interest, My Money Grows Infinitely-Chapter 73 - Acceptance of Achievements
Chapter 73: Chapter 73 Acceptance of Achievements
Chapter 73 -73 Acceptance of Achievements
Wanbao Hall, Mountain Tea Room.
Yesterday’s parental discussions had disappeared without a trace, replaced by a deal involving money.
Chen Cheng sat in the private room, recalling the practice of the past three days, waiting for CGG’s representative to enter.
He closed his eyes, his mind constantly weighing two numbers: 3.65%, 1.75%.
The former was Chen Cheng’s calculated bottom line for CGG, the latter was his bargaining range for this transaction.
Soon, three crisp knocks sounded at the door.
Chen Cheng straightened up, “Come in.”
The door was pushed open, and a middle-aged man in a suit entered.
“Mr.
Chen, my name is Liao Junfeng, from the CGG Fund Department.
It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Mr.
Liao, hello.” Chen Cheng also stood up, shaking his hand.
Both sat down.
Liao Junfeng took out a notebook and a stack of paper documents from his briefcase.
He calmly said, “Mr.
Chen, regarding the pure debt fund that CGG intends to issue, we anticipate the interest rate to be 5.45%.”
Chen Cheng listened to Liao Junfeng’s presentation, already clear in his mind.
This figure was exactly what Jin Baogen had mentioned that day.
“As a seasoned licensed institution in the mainland, CGG has profound experience and good performance in the fund sector,” Liao Junfeng continued:
“Of course, Mr.
Jin Baogen and we have been old friends.
Now that Mr.
Chen is taking over this project, we will show utmost sincerity.”
After hearing his introduction, Chen Cheng responded, “Mr.
Liao, I truly appreciate CGG’s trust.
At the same time, I highly value the opportunity for this cooperation.”
He ventured, “However, is there any flexibility we could have regarding the interest rate?”
Faced with Chen Cheng’s direct approach, Liao Junfeng was not flustered, “Mr.
Chen, of course, we can discuss.
That’s also why I’m here.”
Chen Cheng slightly nodded, “Then, since Mr.
Liao has spoken candidly, I’ll be frank as well.”
He paused for a moment, his gaze gradually sharpening, “5.45%, I cannot accept that rate.”
Liao Junfeng did not interrupt Chen Cheng but listened patiently to him.
Meanwhile, he was speculating about Chen Cheng’s psychological expected price.
“We’ve collaborated before and this won’t be our last.” Chen Cheng continued: “3.65% is the number I can accept.”
Liao Junfeng quickly typed on his keyboard, pulling up the scheduled repayment speed model, then shook his head:
“Mr.
Chen, the number you’ve provided doesn’t show a profitable point for CGG,” he said to Chen Cheng, “As you know, this round of funding comes from Beijing’s issuance.
We need to be accountable for their repayment speed.”
Chen Cheng nodded in deep agreement, “Then what is the lowest interest rate you can offer?”
“5.25%,” Liao Junfeng stated serenely, “0.2% may seem small, but it’s quite significant when dealing with half a billion.”
Chen Cheng eyed that sincerely-like smile, keeping his expression neutral, “One million, frankly, is indeed a lot.”
A triumphant glint flashed in Liao Junfeng’s eyes.
In his view, the young Chen Cheng, compared to the seasoned Jin Baogen, still lacked the essence.
“But this one million, if placed here,” Chen Cheng gestured around the room, “a slight saving on costs would match it.”
Liao Junfeng’s smile stiffened.
“0.2% sounds nice, like a friendly price from you, Mr.
Liao,” Chen Cheng’s expression darkened, “but frankly, it feels more like a probe, trying to see where my bottom line really lies.”
Liao Junfeng’s expression also grew serious, having not expected the seemingly young Chen Cheng to be so astute, seeing through his little scheme at a glance.
A chill went through him as he began to reevaluate this opponent.
“Mr.
Chen, that was a serious remark.”
Liao Junfeng attempted to ease the atmosphere, “CGG has always stood by integrity, and the figures we present are thoughtfully considered.”
Chen Cheng smiled slightly, “Mr.
Liao, I believe in your sincerity.
But I also believe that in business, no one easily reveals their hand.”
“But I’ve already extended my utmost sincerity, revealing my cards to you,” Chen Cheng continued.
“You should show yours, correct?”
Liao Junfeng looked again at the 3.65% in the repayment model, his nostrils slightly flaring as he calculated his next offer in his mind.
“Mr.
Chen is straightforward.”
Thirty seconds later, Liao Junfeng spoke again: “5%, we’ve already conceded 0.45%.
This time…”
“Discussing over two hundred thousand, I don’t think it’s worth wasting more of our time here.”
Chen Cheng leaned comfortably against his chair, directly gazing at the man before him, “I believe there are others more efficient who will accept my offer.”
Liao Junfeng was startled, not expecting Chen Cheng to so resolutely refuse.
He thought he had offered a sufficiently sincere price; 225,000 yuan would have closed Chen Cheng’s mouth.
But things did not proceed as he had envisioned.
The Chen Cheng before him, although not famous, displayed an authoritative and unrestrained boldness about money.
That kind of demeanor can’t be faked.
“Mr.
Chen…”
Before Liao Junfeng could finish, Chen Cheng raised his hand to interrupt, “Mr.
Liao, we’ve also talked for nearly twenty minutes.
One last chance, I trust you can give a price that both of us can accept.”
Liao Junfeng looked at his stern face, feeling as if he had received an ultimatum.
“I need to make a phone call.”
Chen Cheng: “Please do.”
After locking his computer screen, Liao Junfeng walked out of the private room.
Chen Cheng took several deep breaths, slightly sipped his tea, waiting for what would follow.
About a quarter of an hour later, Liao Junfeng returned.
He told Chen Cheng, “Mr.
Chen, CGG’s final price can go down to 4.2%, that’s already a substantial concession.”
Chen Cheng’s lips curled into a slight smile, extending his hand.
Liao Junfeng thought the deal was settled, hurriedly shaking it, “Mr.
Chen, our cooperation…”
“Mr.
Liao, today my small shop is celebrating its opening, welcoming friends from all walks of life.”
Chen Cheng spoke unflurriedly: “Business did not go through, but honor remains.
Although we couldn’t agree on work, I’m still willing to make your acquaintance.”
“So, please help me taste test later.
If there are any issues, our kitchen can make improvements.”
Liao Junfeng went rigid.
Faced with Chen Cheng’s dismissal, his expression was noticeably uncomfortable.
“Mr.
Chen, you really won’t reconsider?”
“Otherwise, why don’t you go out and make another call?” Chen Cheng retorted, continuing, “This is the kind of opportunity only available between friends.”
Liao Junfeng pursed his lips, while Chen Cheng recited the lines he had rehearsed the other day:
“If CGG doesn’t want to do it, there are plenty of institutions outside clamoring to do it.”
“Mr.
Chen, I need half an hour,” Liao Junfeng said firmly, “I will definitely give you a satisfactory answer.”
