Mated To The Demon Prince-Chapter 121: Twelve Steps
If looks could kill, I should be dead now.
Evangeline kept staring at him throughout the time she got joined to him and a beautifully adorned crown was placed on her head, wondering why he looked like he wants her head detached from her neck now.
They were silly, intense and a bit uncomfortable to endure. It made her to also think what she wasn’t doing right. Probably she was messing up in a way and no one was telling her that. Anyway, his stares and mood didn’t matter to her anymore the moment it was over, and they all gathered around the dinning table to have a joyous celebratory dinner with their king and new queen. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
It didn’t bother her how convenient it was to fake a smile as the plan she had for the demon prince kept reeling in her head non-stop.
It was going to happen tonight.
He could take it as her wedding gift to him. She was going to do the best for herself and for this world before she gets the chance to say goodbye.
Evangeline drowned a cup of what tasted similar to alcohol and shit. She needs to be out of her mind completely if she wanted this to be as successful as planned.
She stared at the empty seat beside her and thought it was ridiculous he wasn’t here by her side to celebrate this moment with her. She was supposed to get married to a dashing Elfian prince that was a total sweetheart to her but ended up marrying the demon prince who she was destined to kill and that was going to happen tonight.
She drowned another cup and smiled at the demons celebrating with her at the table when they made another toast to their new queen. She knew the majority of them had plenty of questions about why was she chosen to be their queen, and either they were all too scared to ask or felt it was better to mind their business.
’’To the most beautiful queen in all realms,’’ Venice teased, which brought another insincere smile on her face at him. She wondered what will become of them after tonight’s plan was executed.
Evangeline shook her head. This was not the right time to be sympathetic, but do what was right and leave it all behind her as one big nightmare.
Once dinner was over, she strolled back to their room expecting him to be there but was surprised to find it empty.
What exactly was going on with him?
He need not be in whatever mood he woke up with today, or it could ruin everything. She removed her blood veil on her head and tossed the stupid flower aside while making her way to the bed, seating patiently at the edge of it, waiting for him.
The god-slaying dagger moving in-between her fingers as she tried to calm her fast beating heart.
What will she do if he comes to take her as his forever?
Will she go right ahead to stab him before he makes any move on her, or...what?
She kept thinking until she got tired of waiting. Every second her gaze would linger at the door expecting him to barge in any moments from now.
Eva would rise to her feet occasionally and move bored around their large bedroom, only to fall back on the bed again in exhaustion and frustration.
What is the hold up?!
Eva was this close to pulling every single strand of her hair from her head. Is he going to ignore her on the very night of their wedding?
Could he be any less terrible than this?
Eva woke up sometime in the middle of the night and sighed deeply when there was still no sign of him ever coming in and finding her asleep. She got so bored that she couldn’t remember how she fell asleep, still in her wedding dress. She rose from the bed and noticed how deathly quiet and dark everywhere was.
She pulled out his heavy coat from under their bed and wore it over her revealing dress. The god-slaying dagger with her as she stepped out to look for him.
If he doesn’t come to her, she would go to him and get this over with as quick as possible.
She was thankful for her heightened vision as a werewolf, unless she would be picking all of her teeth from the floor by daybreak here. She was able to move about the lonely, dark corridors without any much difficulty and searched for him at every nook and cranny but it felt like he vanished the moment she was proclaimed his queen.
She paused at the heavy doors of the unholy courtroom. The last place she could think of him being at this point, except he isn’t even in the dungeons.
With great strength, she was able to push one of the heavy doors to be wide enough for her to slip in before it closes with a loud thud behind her. Thankfully, the courtroom was burning with light. It was unbelievably cold and empty, and she instantly got a bad feeling about this.
Her heart stopped at the sight of his form slouched lazily on his throne, and he appeared to be fast asleep on it.
A slight scoff escaped her lips as she moved down the also stopping just a few meters from the steps that led to his throne.
It was so cold that she shivered. Drawing the coat around her body closer to her body. It was so ominous because this was the first cold she reacted too like this. Even the worst blizzard back in her kingdom was still bearable to this.
She tried to see if he was indeed asleep from where she stood or was just too tired resting in such an uncomfortable position. She couldn’t really make out anything, but he was as still as ever. Not making even the slightest twitch of his perfect gloved fingers.
Eva then quietly brought out the god-slaying dagger from where she had it buried in his coat around her body. Her hands trembling, and it felt like she was this close to having a chronic heart attack with what she was about to do. Stabbing him with this while he is like this seemed the easiest and smartest thing to do, until the demon’s lips curved into a haunting smirk. His eyes still close, but that single move was enough to have her freeze on a spot.
’’There is something I had prepared for you.’’
The god-slaying dagger almost slipped out of her hands in fright, but she was determined to keep it together until it was done. She was the one with the most dangerous weapon here that could wipe out his entire existence. So, she should feel the least nervous and not allow him to intimidate her in any way.
’’It’s waiting twelve steps by your right. You can take it as my wedding gift to you.’’
She turned to her right and lo and behold something oily and bloody laid wrapped on what appeared like an altar. It was wrapped carefully like a well-thought-out Christmas present, but she knew better than to expect a candy once she unwrapped it.
Evangeline gulped with each step she took and when she was close to the altar. She sighed deeply as she slowly began to unwrap her present. Wondering as she was this close to losing her mind, what was wrapped that caused so much blood trailing down the altar like slicks of rain down the body of a building.
Once she finally unwrapped her wedding present, she thought her world has ended the moment she did. Nothing at first made sense to her, and she was in a grave state of shock as Andrea’s head, the heir to the vampire kingdom, was presented to her as a gift in courtesy of him.
She stumbled back, almost loosing her balance at the horror. His dark blue-red gaze following her every response to his gift with a sour and murderous look. She looked like she was moments away from passing out when he had only begun with her.
It was the most disgustingly and horrifying thing ever to see on the night of her wedding. She turned to him with tears streaming down her face, and was confronted with a look of satisfaction and the desire to do the same to her in his wicked gaze down at her. He stared at her crazily, hungrily and hurt at the same time. He looked like he was ready to pounce on her from where he was seated.
Eva tried to control so many things in her situation. Her restless heartbeat and breathing. He really looked like the author of her nightmares, and it seemed like it was only just going to be the beginning of it all.
Eva sobbed deeply in fear.
