Chapter 140: _ Time To Go Home

Looking into Farkas’s eyes, "You are right, Farkas. At this point, I don’t see us winning without adopting these measures, but the question is– how would this idea of yours be received by the pack? Would people be willing to let go of their first sons in the name of this war?"

"We are only taking the ones who are up to age. We are not causing any harm, but trying to help. The people will see that." Farkas shrugged. "It’s either that or they lose more than one of their family. Besides, we have the best warriors in the Ravenwood pack. They would get them ready. We are winning this, Rhett. We will."

Of course, they’d win. Rhett would give up his life if he had to. They just had to win. He had a lot to lose.

Sighing and staring into the oblivion, "I’ll have to go to the Alpha tomorrow and let him know of our plans."

"What Alpha?" Farkas almost shouted. "The bastard who hadn’t bothered to come check on the pack since last night? Do you call that one an Alpha? Rhett, it’s so obvious that the Alpha and Beta didn’t care what happened to the pack as long as they were safe! Let’s just save ourselves and keep them out of it." Farkas hissed out, anger bubbling up inside of him.

If Rhett said he didn’t understand where Farkas was coming from, he’d be a hypocrite. He, more than anyone was too pained by this incident. He couldn’t fathom why Aceco who had just forty-five members of her people in the pack would come out of her hideout despite how crucial it was that she stayed protected while the Alpha and Beta who were supposed to be protectors of the pack would bitch around, hidden and exhibit their nonchalance toward the people in these trying times.

As if to add to the sauce, "Do you ever wonder why the precinct suffered this much?" Farkas asked.

"Is there a reason for it?" Rhett raised a brow.

Farkas’s anger was palpable. "Of course!" He scoffed. "The Alpha pulled half of the security here to his house to protect him and his family just when the battle was getting intense. We lost more men in the station— we lost Alistair because of it, Rhett. Because of the Alpha and Beta."

What in the heavens did Farkas just say?

Rhett’s fists clenched as he tried to process Farkas’s words. The Alpha endangered the pack soldiers who put their lives on the line to keep the pack flourishing daily to save his ass?

Just what sort of Alpha was this?!

This was exactly why he was against having a young scholar who had no respect for customs and traditions to take over the pack. However, when he was the late Alpha’s Lycan and there were no other heirs, because of this same custom and tradition, he had to be crowned the Alpha.

Right now, it seemed it was one of the gravest mistakes the pack had made. If only they had a stronger and more powerful Alpha, they would have grown bigger than this. There were limits to what he could do since he was just a Gamma.

"Heavens." Rhett breathed out, rubbing his temples. "This just weakens me. It will make facing him regarding the military recruitment discussion harder."

Rhett wasn’t looking in Farkas’s face to see the bewilderment splitting his face into two. "After everything that I just told you, you still want to go see the Alpha?!"

Didn’t Farkas get it?

Good Alpha or bad Alpha, tradition was tradition. Rules were meant to be followed or the balance would forever break. Even if he didn’t want to do this, his sense of duty and loyalty wouldn’t make him stop. He just had to.

And thus, he nodded. "Yes, Farkas. I will. We have to get the Alpha’s consent before proceeding with a general plan that might alter the structure of the pack." He said.

"You’re unbelievable, Rhett." Farkas scoffed. You are just unbelievable!"

Rhett ignored his whinings like they were nonexistent. "Have any idea when all the forensic results will be out? Since they might lead us to find this ancient vampire in our midst, we need them soon."

"I still can not believe such was going on right under our noses and we didn’t notice." Farkas shook his head.

Rhett dangled a finger in the air. "Hm, hm. Speak for yourself. I did notice. Was just waiting for the right evidence to prove my theory correct and I got it."

"Yeah, yeah. Show off." Farkas rolled his eyes, causing a faint smile to appear on Rhett’s face.

He stood up from his seat. "I can not continue to go around in blood-stained clothes, Farkas. My guess is that we shouldn’t expect any attacks soon which means the station and the people would be fine if you and I go into home and resume work tomorrow." He said.

His words seemed to strike a chord in Farkas’s ears. "Oh, my beautiful Moon." He blurted. "Rhett? Is that you who just talked?"

Rhett knew it wasn’t like him to suggest rest, but as the Gamma, going around in clothes filled with vampire blood wasn’t exactly presentable. Rhett was a neat man too, so the dirty clothes irked him. And since he was going to see the Alpha, he mustn’t look behind, else, Darius would find every excuse in it to get on his nerves.

Most importantly, he wanted to go talk to the Moon Goddess. He needed her knowledge of this ancient vampire. He needed to go home and sleep.

"Get up." He patted Farkas’s shoulder, picked up his car keys and briefcase, and then, began to walk out of his office. freewebnσvel.cøm

Farkas followed behind with a series of exaggerated taunts. "Look who wants to go home. I can’t believe you want to go home."

"SHUT UP!" Rhett had to bellow at a point, gaining the attention of the soldiers around.

Farkas informed the men that he and Rhett were signing off for the rest of the day, and together, both men left the station.
