Chapter 35 -34 Age 28 (Second update arrived) _1
“How can you just nonchalantly brush that off?” Hearing Jing Chen’s dismissive words, the old man wore an expression of disappointment reminiscent of failed expectations. “You were speaking to a girl in front of the elder Mei and the entire Mei family, of course, she would be too embarrassed to respond.”
Did he actually need to spell it out for this damn kid!
“It was not me who brought up the idea of marriage,” Jing Chen said lightly, a faint smile flickering at the corner of his mouth before instantly vanishing.
Mu Lin, embarrassed? Jing Chen couldn’t imagine such a scene; a woman who routinely ordered people to drop their pants didn’t leave much to the imagination.
So if it hadn’t been his idea, then whose was it… The old man startled to grasp the reality and asked reflexively.
“So, what was your answer? Did you agree?”
He never anticipated such an occurrence before; good job, Mu girl!
Sighing softly, Jing Chen glanced helplessly at his grandfather and changed the subject, “Grandpa, you should worry about your health, leave my affairs alone. I know what to do.”
Yeah, right.
A twenty-eight-years-old virgin who knows next to nothing about women can’t know how to effectively woo a woman, especially not a woman like Mu Lin. Hence, the old man’s anxiety was quite understandable.
He really wanted to ask, do you even know what a woman is?
Despite his doubts, the old man refrained from pressing Jing Chen further, fearing it would only make things worse. He dismissed it casually.
“Don’t worry about me, I’m in good health. With Mu girl around, I am sure I will recover very soon.” He’d just have to endure a few more hard times. He was not going to give in before he saw happiness in the lives of his precious grandchildren.
“That’s good.” Jing Chen nodded. He didn’t doubt Mu Lin’s medical skills. If she said she could cure his grandfather, then she could.
Knowing this, he felt relieved.
…
Meanwhile, on the other side, at Mu Lin’s place.
Fine beads of sweat emerged on her forehead, making her fair skin appear extraordinarily moist.
In comparison, the man in front of her was in a sorry state. His face was covered with beads of sweat as big as beans, his eyebrows knitted and his handsome face twisted in pain. This made the few people standing nearby extremely anxious.
Pain! This was a pain that seeped from the depths of his bones. Xu Yibai felt as if his leg bones were being disjointed, which made him wonder if the woman in front of him was intentionally torturing him.
However, the sight of the fine beads of sweat on her face and her increasingly pale complexion silenced his doubts.
This was his second acupuncture session. Compared to the last time, the pain had significantly lessened. Xu Yibai didn’t know how Mu Lin’s acupuncture differed from other Chinese Medicine Doctors, but he clearly felt subtle changes in his body after each of her treatments.
His once calm heart was now stirred up with ripples.
Perhaps, he really could stand up again!
“Hoo…” Mu Lin took a deep breath once she finished, retrieving the silver needle from Xu Yibai’s leg. A faint smile appeared on her face.
“Doctor Mu, how is my son’s leg now?” The moment Mu Lin finished, Mrs. Xu couldn’t hold back her worries and hurried over to ask.
Despite having experienced disappointment many times, she still harbored hope.
“Mom, calm down. Doctor Mu just finished a strenuous session. Give her some time to breathe,” Xu Yiwen interjected.
Every time after Mu Lin finished an acupuncture session, she seemed extremely exhausted and her face would turn noticeably pale.
Mu Lin took the glass of water a nurse handed over, took a sip, and shook her head to suggest that she was okay.
“Don’t worry.” Mu Lin said: “It takes only three acupuncture sessions in total. This has been the second one. If everything goes as planned, after the next session, he will be able to stand.”
“Really?” The surprisingly quick and easy hope made people hesitant to believe.
“Of course it’s true.” Xu Yiwen quickly chimed in, fearing that his mother might inadvertently offend Mu Lin to the point of her refusing to perform the final acupuncture session.
From their two encounters, Xu Yiwen perceived that Mu Lin had a peculiar temper. Reflecting on their previous rushed and tense sessions, he was not keen on repeating that experience. If any issues arose now, it would be difficult to persuade her again.
Mu Lin, too unbothered to carry on the conversation, simply glanced at him and remained silent. After all, she had nothing else to say.
Her peculiar temper was already infamous near and far.
Besides, wasn’t she renowned as a Poison Doctor!
Facing Mrs. Xu, Mu Lin continued indifferently with a soft chuckle: “Don’t worry; If you don’t believe me, he can try to move his leg after resting a bit to see if it starts feeling different.”
The surest way would be to give it a good twist and see if it hurts.
Xu Yibai’s legs had originally lost sensation. After examining his medical records and making her own assumptions, Mu Lin confidently stated that he could be cured.
If an ordinary doctor were to handle this, their answers might never be certain. Otherwise, the issue regarding his legs would not be neglected for so long.
“Thank you.” The pain in his leg subsiding, Xu Yibai turned to Mu Lin and thanked her. The tension that had initially existed between them had lessened.
But Mu Lin brushed it off casually, “You should wait until you can stand again before thanking me.” She paused a moment and then added, “And remember, though your legs are regaining sensation, never attempt to stand. Don’t think that will expedite your recovery. If anything goes wrong, not even my master descending from heaven will be able to save you.”
Xu Yibai nodded. Seeing Mu Lin’s slightly irked and weary expression, he smiled.
“The last treatment session will be in half a month,” Mu Lin informed.
Mrs. Xu and Xu Yiwen thanked her again.
After they had left, Mu Lin leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes to rest.
Smerking at Mu Lin, Xiang Manni felt quite pleased.
Doctor Mu was indeed a tough-talking, kind-hearted person.

Who knows how Mu Lin would feel if she heard Xiang Manni’s thoughts right now, she probably wouldn’t feel pleased.
She would likely feel that… her value as a Poison Doctor was becoming increasingly undermined.
Master, you really have left your favorite disciple a “messy” situation to handle!
