Master, Your Wife Has Become a Super Star Through Fortune-Telling-Chapter 88 - 89: An Uncontainable Gossipy Heart
But Nan Yu couldn’t see her. She felt herself lunge at empty air; there was nothing on the bed. She stared blankly at her hands, tears welling up in her eyes.
[I actually kind of want to cry.]
[Her best friend turned into a ghost, but she isn’t worried at all that her friend would hurt her. She’s just sad she can’t see her anymore.]
[She knows Lili would never hurt her.]
"Streamer, I can’t feel her. I don’t know what she’s trying to say."
Su Nian’s voice was calm. "She’s typing."
DING-DONG...
A message popped up a moment later.
[Nan Yu is a dumbass! Bleh bleh bleh!]
It was followed by a cheeky emoji.
Nan Yu: ...
[What did Lili say?!]
[Why did her expression suddenly get so ugly?!]
[Don’t tell me... there’s some hidden reason for Lili’s death!]
Nan Yu silently held up her phone, displaying the four words she had just received.
[Hahahaha, now *that’s* how best friends should act!]
[Even as a ghost, the first chance I get to talk to you, I have to be a little shit!]
Nan Yu said, exasperated, "Streamer, is there any way for me to see this goofball?"
Su Nian thought for a moment. "Yes. One Carnival gift will let you two talk for ten minutes."
"Done!"
Without a second thought, Nan Yu immediately sent a Carnival gift.
Su Nian added, "But be warned: after the ten minutes are up, I will send her away to help her pass on. You only get ten minutes of conversation, not a second more!"
Nan Yu fell silent for a moment. "Only ten minutes, huh."
"Ghosts and humans can’t stay in contact for too long. It has a negative effect on both of you."
"Alright."
With that said, Su Nian’s fingers began Sealing as she started to chant.
"Banish evil, bind the phantoms, protect this life and guard this body. O star of wisdom, bring peace to form and spirit. Let the three souls persist, breaking through the Supreme Purity. With heart and mind united, let the Ghost Gate appear now!"
The moment Su Nian finished her spell, a hazy, confused figure appeared beside Nan Yu.
Sensing that something was wrong, Lili panicked. She turned to flee right through the wall.
And slammed right into the door.
[Hahahaha, she doesn’t seem very bright.]
[She looks like she’s really scared too!]
[She’s a ghost herself and she’s still such a scaredy-cat.]
Nan Yu felt a strange sense of pride and struck a pose in front of Lili. "It’s only been a few days, Lili, and you’re already this washed up? Did you just Flash into a wall, or did you Flash in the wrong direction?"
Despite her teasing, Nan Yu stepped forward and tried to grab Lili.
To her surprise, this time she actually caught hold of her. But a wave of cold air washed over her, chilling her to the bone like a blast from an air conditioner in the dead of winter.
But Nan Yu didn’t let it show. Her eyes, however, began to brim with tears, and her voice choked up. "What happened to you? Why did you suddenly pass away? Did someone do this to you?!"
Lili stared in shock at the hand Nan Yu was holding, then looked at her best friend, who was crying her eyes out.
Even though she was a ghost now, she still felt a flicker of fear.
"How can you see me? And how can you grab me? This is so creepy! Is the feng shui in this apartment shot or something?"
Creepy?
A tear that was about to fall from Nan Yu’s eye seemed to freeze in place, unsure whether to drop.
"You’re the one who can send me texts from beyond the grave! Now you’re a full-on ghost. If anyone’s creepy here, it’s you!"
Lili looked even more stunned. "You can really see me? And hold me? Don’t tell me you’re secretly descended from a Heavenly Master, are you? I never knew you had this skill of keeping a Little Ghost!"
Having reached her limit, Nan Yu playfully swatted at her.
"Lili, would you please use that little brain of yours! A master is helping me. That’s the only reason I can see you."
"The master said you have an unfulfilled wish, which is why you’re still lingering here. What is it? Was there something suspicious about your death?"
"Huh? An unfulfilled wish!"
Now it was Lili’s turn to look confused.
But a few seconds later, she figured it out.
"Okay, so, like, I *really* want to know what happened next in the saga of Li Yue cheating with her best friend’s dad and getting caught in bed by her stepmom!"
Nan Yu: ...
Before Nan Yu could even make a sarcastic comment, Lili let out a sleazy chuckle.
"I knew something was up with those two for ages, but I never imagined the full story would be so juicy! I had just finished reading what you sent me that day when, out of nowhere, a huge truck hit me. I have the worst luck, kicking the bucket just like that." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"I was all ready to move on, but I just couldn’t stop thinking about what happened next. It was driving me crazy! So I decided to just text you, but you never answered."
"Then I came over to your place to find you, but you couldn’t see me. This is perfect! Now you can tell me everything face-to-face!"
Nan Yu: ...I’m speechless.
But despite her exasperation, she pulled Lili close and whispered the whole gossip-filled story to her.
The two pretty girls huddled together, heads touching, letting out sleazy chuckles from time to time. Their shared glances were full of perfect understanding, a bond unbroken even though they were now separated by the veil of life and death.
[I’m so jealous. I wish I had a best friend like that.]
[Hey, what’s so secret that we can’t hear it?]
[Seriously, with a juicy gossip cliffhanger like that, I probably wouldn’t be able to rest in peace either.]
[It sounds super interesting, I want to hear it too!]
When they grew tired of talking, they lay on the bed together and started a new conversation, as if trying to say everything they needed to in their final moments together.
Until Su Nian glanced at the clock on the wall, its hands ticking away.
"You have one minute left."
In that instant, all the grief they had been deliberately suppressing was silently unleashed.
But before Nan Yu could start crying, Lili pinched her lips together, squishing her mouth into a pout like Donald Duck’s bill.
"Don’t. I can’t handle it when you suddenly get all sentimental."
[Hahaha, it’s funny but also so heartbreaking.]
[Their feelings are so genuine.]
[I don’t really have friends, but why am I getting so sad for no reason!]
[Boohoohoo, watching this is making my eyes sweat.]
But Nan Yu couldn’t hold back her tears any longer.
Her already-reddened eyes quickly welled up, and tears began to stream down her face.
"WAAAAAH! BOOHOOOHOO!!!"
Lili let go, no longer pinching her friend’s lips, and instead pulled her into a tight hug.
"You’re my very best friend. You have to take care of yourself from now on!"
Nan Yu, who was already on the verge of breaking down, let out a howl and began to sob like a little child.
She tried to wipe the tears away with one hand, but even more streamed through the gaps between her fingers.
"Boohoo... don’t worry. Even though I’ll have other friends later... I promise I’ll just be faking it with them. You’re my only *real* friend."
Nan Yu couldn’t hold back her wails any longer. Snot and tears streamed down her little face.
She didn’t bother to wipe them away, instead repeating over and over to her dear friend, "Go slowly, okay? Wait for me."
"I still have so much gossip to tell you... remember to wait for me. Please, I’m begging you... you have to wait for me..."
