Master, Your Wife Has Become a Super Star Through Fortune-Telling-Chapter 67 - 68: She Arrived at the Door of 444
Seeing that she wouldn’t listen to reason, Su Nian’s expression turned cold. She then turned to look at the people beside her.
"The rest of you still have a chance to leave."
The moment Su Nian spoke, Xi Xi’s expression instantly soured.
"What’s that supposed to mean?! It’s bad enough you’re telling me not to explore, but what gives you the right to try and send my crew away too?!"
Su Nian’s tone had actually been quite reasonable, but Xi Xi was determined to create a viral moment, so she flew into a rage without a second thought.
[Ugh, I’m speechless. The host is kindly trying to warn her, but she’s being so hostile.]
[So ungrateful!]
[Looks to me like she’s gone crazy trying to get famous!]
Su Nian changed her tack. "Fine. But let me make one thing clear: you’re too far away from me. If something happens later, I won’t be able to save you."
Xi Xi sneered and immediately ordered her crew.
"Turn off the lights and wait for me outside the door!"
Seeing this, Su Nian didn’t say another word of warning.
Xi Xi was incredibly bold. Perhaps feeling secure with her companions nearby, she took things to an even greater extreme.
It wasn’t enough to be alone in the hotel room; she also deftly switched off all the lights, drew the curtains, and turned on the television.
She adjusted the camera one last time and then prepared to begin.
Before midnight even struck, she tried her hand at a few small spirit-summoning games.
For example, peeling an apple or combing her hair in front of a mirror. But, without exception, nothing strange happened.
She started to get cocky. "See! I told you so. This stuff is all fake!"
TICK-TOCK... TICK-TOCK...
The clock on the wall ticked on, unhurried, second by second.
Until the hour hand slowly crept toward 12...
Midnight had arrived.
She walked over to the television, picked up the small booklet, and opened it.
The first page of the booklet read: "She has arrived on the first floor of the hotel."
She flipped to the second page. It read:
"She has climbed to the second floor of the hotel."
"She has climbed to the third floor of the hotel."
’Who is ’she’?’
The camera clearly recorded the scene, capturing Xi Xi’s voice as she read aloud while turning the pages.
[That’s so weird. What is that thing?]
[Why can’t I see anything?]
[Oh, I get it. Maybe she was too scared to grab the real booklet, so she just faked this one herself.]
"She has climbed to the fourth floor of the hotel."
With fingers that had begun to tremble, Xi Xi continued to turn the pages. The booklet read:
"She has arrived at the door of 441."
"She has arrived at the door of 442."
It was a strange, eerie booklet. A faint sense of wrongness crept into Xi Xi’s heart, and she paused, wanting to stop turning the pages.
’It felt as if the ’she’ in the book was actually getting closer and closer to her.’
The unease in Xi Xi’s heart grew. They were just a few simple words, but they were enough to cover her entire body in goosebumps. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
She forced an unnatural smile. The eerie feeling in her heart wouldn’t dissipate, but she had never been one to back down.
She took a moment to steel herself. ’There are two people right outside the door, what’s there to be afraid of!’
"Hahaha, everyone, I’m getting a little too excited. Let me just calm my nerves. Now, let’s keep turning the pages!"
Although the room’s furnishings were exactly the same as before, she felt an inexplicable panic and even a budding anxiety.
This anxiety seemed to transmit itself through the screen to the viewers.
[I don’t know why, but hearing her read this is seriously giving me the creeps.]
[I’ve never believed in ghosts or spirits, but for some reason, this is starting to get to me.]
[This room feels so much more sinister with the lights off.]
Xi Xi tried to calm herself, not even noticing that her own hands had begun to shake.
By now, she had reached the second-to-last page of the booklet. "One leg has arrived at the door of 443."
Xi Xi even leaned in close to the door, wanting to prove that there was absolutely no sound outside.
And, just as she expected, the hallway outside was silent. As always, it was deathly still.
Xi Xi swallowed nervously, tightening her grip on the book to keep it from turning another page.
Then she knocked lightly on the door—the secret signal she’d arranged with her team.
KNOCK KNOCK...
But strangely, the hallway outside was completely silent. Not a sound in response.
As bold as Xi Xi was, at this moment, she couldn’t help but feel a flicker of fear.
"Hahaha, my assistants are probably just trying to scare me..."
She laughed awkwardly and knocked again, more urgently this time.
But still, there was no sound.
[She’s a goner.]
[She’s really going to die!]
[Don’t you dare ask the host to save you later! Have some guts!]
Seeing these comments, although Xi Xi was still afraid, her fear was momentarily overshadowed by a surge of anger.
Under the pressure of her emotions and the fear of the unknown, she spoke out.
"Don’t you worry. If I beg her for help, I’m a dog! I’m not afraid at all, this is all part of the act, get it?!"
With that, she forced herself to walk as naturally as she could over to the window.
’My other two crew members are definitely out there,’ she thought. ’No need to worry.’
Just as before, she knocked lightly. No sound the first time. No sound the second time.
On the third try, she couldn’t take it anymore and yanked the curtains open.
In the narrow view from the window, the two people who had been there moments ago were gone.
[Holy crap, a disappearing act?!]
[Is this part of the show, or are they really gone?]
[My guess is they’re really dead. The host just warned her. Heh! But she wouldn’t listen!]
[So where the hell did they go?!]
"H-How is that possible!"
Xi Xi’s face turned deathly pale in an instant. She hadn’t opened the door or the window once since the stream officially began.
’But now the people outside both the door and the window were gone?’
Just then, the booklet she was holding began to flip wildly, FLUTTER FLUTTER FLUTTER, as if caught in a wind.
Xi Xi glanced at the curtains and the sheer bed canopy, neither of which were moving at all. Yet the booklet she was clutching tightly was being blown about nonstop.
It gave her the eerie illusion that the booklet was alive. On camera, it looked as if a gale was furiously flipping the pages, trying to force it open to the final leaf.
And she could guess what words would be written on that last page.
Xi Xi slammed both hands down on the booklet. She was an atheist, but in a situation like this, even her conviction began to waver.
"Where the hell did they go?"
"Xiao Zhang! Ah Zhao!"
[Where’d they go? They croaked, duh!]
[It’s her own fault for being so stubborn.]
[And she was talking about bonuses. What good is a bonus when you’re dead!]
Su Nian sighed.
"Look down..."
Xi Xi looked down. Four stories wasn’t that high. The moment she glanced down, she saw two dark, crumpled shapes on the ground below. They looked like people—they had limbs—but they were lying prone and motionless.
As a horrifying possibility dawned on her, Xi Xi’s entire body went rigid.
Her terrified expression made her look like a completely different person from just moments before.
But just then, from Room 443 next door, came the sudden sound of a window sliding open.
A hand in a white sleeve pulled the window open. Then, a head emerged, completely obscured by a curtain of long, black hair.
From beneath the veil of black hair, red lips seemed to curl into a sinister grin.
"Hee hee hee... I’ve reached 443. Next, I’m going to 444..."
Xi Xi’s tongue felt frozen in her mouth; she couldn’t utter a single word.
And the booklet she had been clutching so tightly, for some unknown reason, suddenly fell from her grasp. It landed on the floor and flipped open on its own.
It was the final page...
"She has arrived at the door of 444"
A frantic kicking sound erupted from outside the door...
