Chapter 385: Chapter 385: Which big organization doesn’t have a hidden card?

Izumo, Divine Gathering, Hundred Tales Conference.

The shrine, typically a place of tranquility, now housed several display screens, each broadcasting live streams. The streamers from Yan Country, who roamed throughout the Eastern Country, spoke with an effect that was ordinarily engaging, but now their words grated on the ears.

"We cannot continue like this," said the Great Heavenly Dog, his words slightly unclear as he forcefully slammed the table, anger coloring his tone.

"Stop them? With what shall we stop them? Our combat power is far too inferior, or do you want me to use Mount Ōe now? Or shall we have Takamagahara descend? Or perhaps we should initiate the Night Parade of Hundred Demons before the Midsummer Night Festival?" The long-horned youth spoke with a hostile expression. Although, in theory, the Hundred Tales possessed the power to crush the Yan Country streamers, it was not a force that could be used without limit.

Even if it really needed to be used, it should be during the Midsummer Night Festival.

Listening to the long-horned youth, the nine-tailed woman nodded in agreement, clearly reluctant to resort again to their last weapon. The Great Heavenly Dog wanted to say more, but with the Heavenly Dog Council nearly annihilated, his influence was unprecedentedly low, and he finally had to shut his mouth.

Silence fell within the Divine Gathering for a moment, but no one suggested concluding the meeting.

They all knew that employing their final tactic was not advisable, but they also understood that letting things continue as is was also tantamount to a slow death.

After some hesitation, the Hundred-eyed Demon suddenly spoke:

"How about using that?"

"Which one?" The long-horned youth paused briefly, then his eyebrows lifted as he turned to look towards the female with a ghost mask sitting in the principal seat. The other several "Big Monsters" also turned their gazes toward her.

The woman in the ghost mask pondered for a moment and then frowned, saying,

"Using that would likely have significant repercussions."

"We don’t have a choice, do we? Infinite City’s monopoly is virtually gone. With the current rate of human development, how many more years can we hold out?" The long-horned youth shifted his position, a taunting smile appearing on his face:

"Or perhaps our methods of containment have been too gentle. If we had followed my advice and locked down all high-tech products, closing off our country, would we be in this situation now?"

"If we had done as you said, we would have been trapped on this island long ago! Without the vast assets of Hundred Tales, could we have protected the foundation of Infinite City?" The nine-tailed woman rolled her eyes beautifully, twirling a tuft of white fur at the tip of her tail with her fingertips, her eyes slightly dazed:

"But you do make a point. Let’s give it a try; instilling some fear in humanity wouldn’t hurt."

The woman in the ghost mask nodded slightly, her gaze sweeping over the Kaidan, who had little say, and finally she stood up and said, "In that case, that’s the decision made. Let’s get the Managers moving; it’s time they serve their purpose after being nurtured for so long!"

...

"Hello, everyone, I’m Brother Jay the Bumpy Man. The area we’re visiting today is no ordinary place!"

Dressed in classic training attire, the young man walked along the street with a following drone, attracting respectful and longing looks from the Eastern Country people he passed. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Used to such gazes after half a month in the Eastern Country, "Brother Jay the Bumpy Man" adapted well. He navigated using his GPS, while watching the scrolling comments on his screen and interacting with his audience.

[Isn’t this just Shinjuku? What’s so special about it?]

[Dare to take us to Shibuya!]

[Shibuya? What’s the point? Go to Ginza!]

[I wanna go to Akihabara though...]

...

Watching the barrage flow, Jay "Concave-Convex Man" put on a profound expression and solemnly said,

"You might not know, but today we are going to the area known as the most chaotic in Tokyo, also called ’Inner Shinjuku’."

[Inner Shinjuku sounds so chuuni!]

[Don’t Eastern Country folks just love this stuff?]

[I heard even Shimokitazawa has an ’Inner Shimokitazawa’...]

[Damn!]

Seeing the popularity of the livestream increasing, Jay "Concave-Convex Man"’s smile grew more genuine. He looked at the increasingly dilapidated walls and shops on both sides of the road and slowly explained:

"Forty years ago, this was the most prosperous area in all Tokyo... no, I should say in all Eastern Country, and there was even a saying that selling this place could buy half of New York.

"Many viewers might have heard about Eastern Country’s ’Lost Generation’ and ’Golden Generation,’ and know about the economic bubble that was once said to be capable of buying Columbia.

"This abandoned neighborhood was built during that time, and I can responsibly tell you that over seventy percent of today’s high-tech neighborhoods around the world bear the imprint of this place.

"But once the bubble burst, the original developers hanged themselves in the Aokigahara sea of trees on Mount Fuji.

"As for the unfinished buildings, well, you all know the deal, basically no one wants to take them over. And with the overhaul of the infrastructure being so radical, the cost of demolition and rebuilding is astronomical. Given Eastern Country’s current state, not even a national project could restart here, hence it’d been forgotten and eventually turned into a gathering place for beggars, criminals, stowaways, and cult followers, among other dubious characters."

At this point, Jay "Concave-Convex Man" suddenly stopped walking, pointed at two suspicious-looking blonde guys squatting at the next corner and said,

"See, these guys dye their hair blonde, wield a chain, and think they can be a ’yakuza’ just squatting at the entrance."

"Kid, what did you say..." Perhaps hearing the word ’yakuza’ in Japanese, the two blondes immediately looked over, but the one starting the confrontation was quickly pulled back by his companion who whispered something whilst pointing at the drone behind Jay "Concave-Convex Man". The confrontational guy immediately changed his attitude and demonstrated with his actions what Eastern Country craftsmanship spirit meant.

The livestream room erupted in commotion, and Jay "Concave-Convex Man" seemed quite satisfied with the show effect, nodding and saying,

"Alright, I’ll take you all deeper inside now; don’t know if those guys living deep in Inner Shinjuku will be as sensible... Oh, and Manager, please keep an eye out too, if anything inappropriate comes up, just black out my screen, just don’t ban me!"

[I still love the host’s rebellious demeanor!]

[Black out what, if there’s nothing inappropriate why are you here then?]

[Newbie here, what’s considered inappropriate?]

As the audience heckled as usual, Jay "Concave-Convex Man" simply lifted his foot and walked on. But just then, a loud noise suddenly came from not far away, followed immediately by a seven-story building collapsing with screams faintly heard amidst the roar.

But in the next instant, no one was pondering whether there were people in that building or not, because from the dust, a huge shadow slowly rose.

It quickly surpassed the original height of the building, its ferocious head scanning the surroundings with glowing red eyes.

[There’s a monster!]

[Eastern Country has such outrageous creatures? Where did it come from?]

[Where’s Concave-Convex Man? Oh, the host is! Quick, fight the monster!]

"Damn! Normally you call me Jay, but now a monster appears and you know to call me Concave-Convex Man? Is that something a mere mortal can handle?!"
