Marvel: Master Of Role-Playing-Chapter 201: Reid’s Plan
Chapter 201: Reid’s Plan
"So, what are we supposed to do, really?"
Ben finally spoke up. Unlike the others, who seemed to be fully briefed, he still had no idea what was going on. And he wasn’t about to get involved in something weird without knowing the details.
At his question, Reid turned and looked at the man with an honest face. Then he answered calmly.
"You’re going to become heroes."
"Heroes?"
Ben still didn’t understand. Sure, he was a retired Navy SEAL, but that was a far cry from being a hero. He couldn’t fly, shoot lasers, or manipulate energy like ’Green Lantern.’
"You mean to say you don’t have any superpowers, right?"
Reid’s tone was light.
Ben gave a nod in response. Even Captain America had to be injected with a super soldier serum. He knew Susan and Johnny too—they were just regular people. Compared to them, the enhanced soldiers in the military probably looked more like heroes.
"And that’s exactly what Luthor and I have been working on."
Smiling, Reid stepped aside, showing the massive and complex machine behind him.
"Over the past few days, both of us have cracked the mystery of the so-called cosmic storm. It’s not some strange cosmic radiation. It’s actually a pure and concentrated energy. I call it... cosmic energy."
In the Fantastic Four 2 movie, after the team came into contact with the Silver Surfer, the energy inside him affected them. It even allowed their powers to transfer between each other.
It was clear that the Silver Surfer’s energy resonated with the cosmic storm’s energy.
Following that clue, Reid and Luthor dug deeper. Through continuous research, they finally uncovered the truth and made early contact with this cosmic energy—one of the most mysterious yet widespread forces in the Marvel world.
From gods to apprentice sorcerers in Kamar-Taj, the foundation behind their mystical powers could all be traced back to this cosmic energy.
What people called divine power was often just cosmic energy, shaped by a god’s unique essence.
Ben was surprised to hear all this for the first time, but he didn’t interrupt. He knew it was better to let the professionals explain things fully. If he still had doubts afterward, there would be time to ask.
"Cosmic energy fills the universe we live in. It’s the most fundamental layer of power. Under normal conditions, it doesn’t give people superpowers, just like how breathing air doesn’t suddenly awaken special abilities. But this time, the cosmic energy captured from the storm is different. The concentration is off the charts. It’s so dense that even Dr. Richards, using basic instruments, could easily detect it. And that kind of concentrated cosmic energy can give people powers." frёewebηovel.cѳm
Now it made sense to Ben.
In simple terms, LexCorp had found a way to give people stable superpowers. However, he still had one important question.
"I can think of the powers gained this way as similar to those of mutants, right?"
Reid nodded. "That’s right. Whether or not you gain powers depends on your individual condition. When the cosmic energy enters your body, it adapts to your traits and situation, creating a distinct ability tailored to you."
"Then what if the power I get changes me? I mean, what if I lose my human form? Can the company restore me back to normal?"
Hearing that, Reid glanced at Ben with slight surprise, not expecting the man’s instincts to be this sharp. He hadn’t mentioned anything like that, but Ben had already sensed the possibility that he might lose his human appearance.
Still, since he planned to move forward with this project, he had already prepared for questions like this.
"You don’t need to worry about that. When cosmic energy enters your body, it shifts depending on your personal traits and might trigger unique transformations. But that doesn’t mean the energy is permanently bound to you. If our equipment is capable of safely injecting cosmic energy into your body, then naturally, it can also extract that energy later using the same principles."
In the movies, Reed had managed to do just that. With that blueprint in mind, and Reid and Luthor working together, it was easy to pull it off too. And if needed, even Gotham’s Batman could step in and lend a hand.
With a team this skilled, there was no reason to believe they couldn’t develop such a solution.
After all, Reed had managed to figure it out on his own in a relatively short amount of time.
"That’s a relief." Ben let out a sigh. He didn’t want to give up his job at LexCorp, but if gaining powers meant turning into some kind of monster, that was something he couldn’t accept. Now that he was sure he could be restored no matter what changes might happen, he had nothing left to worry about.
"So what is our job? LexCorp wants us to become heroes, and now they’re even putting together a team. There must be a purpose behind all this."
He kept asking. But this time, it wasn’t Reid who answered. It was Johnny.
"The reason’s simple. We’re here to patch up the mess Reed made. LexCorp’s experiment safety is being questioned, and at the same time, so is the company’s overall capability. Whether it’s truly safe or not, we know the truth. But as for the company’s strength, that’s something we need to prove."
He didn’t explain everything in detail, but Ben more or less understood the message. What could prove LexCorp’s power better than creating a team of real superpowered heroes?
Reid picked up again. "What you’ll be doing is using LexCorp’s intelligence network to fight crime across the globe. Of course, not every petty theft or small incident will need your attention. In your downtime, with the company’s support, you can land sponsorship deals, film ads, appear in movies and TV shows, even become celebrities on screen."
Then, with a strange smile, he added, "You’ll all be reassigned to a new division under LexCorp, a subsidiary formed from the restructuring of Von Doom Industries. It’s now called Vought International."
Creating the Vought company wasn’t just Reid indulging in a personal joke. It was also a sharp counterattack against those trying to bring down LexCorp.
They had tried to control public opinion the old-fashioned way. Fine. He would fight them with something new.
Superheroes and celebrities combined into one would capture the hearts of the masses. And once the right candidates appeared, he would continue using cosmic energy to grant them powers, while keeping a firm grip on the off switch.
Control the world, through heroes.
