Chapter 72: Freeze G

The massive hand was a breath away from crushing Adam.

At the very last instant, Adam snapped fully back to himself. His focus sharpened, his will flared, and he forced the pressure away, peeling it off his body just enough to get out the way.

BOOM!

The golem’s hand slammed into the ground where Adam had been, leaving behind a colossal handprint carved into the frozen earth, ice splintered outward in a violent shockwave.

The frost golem lifted its arm again and stared at Adam, its hollow eyes burning with cold malice.

And then.

The same crushing pressure descended once more.

But this time, Adam was ready.

He grit his teeth and bit down on the effect, pushing against the golem’s special talent with raw force and control.

The slowing sensation washed over him... and stopped there.

The golem froze.

For the first time, something close to shock flickered across its expressionless face.

Adam smiled back at it.

A heartbeat later, a giant frost fist slammed down onto the spot where Adam stood, but as the fist withdrew, Adam was no longer there.

A sharp whoosh cut through the air, and as the golem looked up.

It was already too late.

Adam dropped from above in a rapid, spinning descent. His blade flashed once, clean and precise, severing the golem’s head in a single motion.

The massive body collapsed as the head crashed into the tundra, shattering apart.

Adam landed lightly atop the corpse.

He straightened and looked up.

Fifteen frost golems remained.

They stared back at him, unmoving and stunned that their special talent had barely slowed him down.

The frost golems’ special talent, Freeze G, cast a debuff that hindered movement by inducing extreme cold and neural delay. For Adam, who had been moving at extreme speed, the first hit had felt like an abrupt increase in gravity, catching him off guard for a split second.

That moment was gone.

Now that he understood the effect, it wouldn’t work on him again.

Adam had the high ground.

In Star power.

In grit.

In sheer brutality.

The fifteen golems roared as one and charged, activating Freeze G, waves of suppressive cold slamming into Adam from multiple directions.

Adam didn’t slow.

He shrugged it off and surged forward, meeting all fifteen with the same overwhelming force and momentum.

Adam met the oncoming golems head-on.

The first one tried to grab him, its massive hands closed in as it crouched low, but the moment its fingers got close to Adam, they were gone. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Ice-coated digits flew apart in shards before Adam’s blade flashed upward, taking the golem’s head clean off.

Fourteen left.

Three golems rushed him together, trying to overwhelm him with sheer size and numbers.

Their fists crashed down in overlapping arcs, frost exploding with every miss.

Adam weaved through them.

Left.

Right.

Under.

Their attacks never touched him.

A moment later, three heads hit the ground in rapid succession, bodies collapsing behind them like falling towers.

Eleven left.

At that point, it stopped being a fight.

Adam carved through them methodically, each kill ending the same way, decapitation.

He had started with it.

It only felt right to finish with it.

One by one, the frost golems fell until there was only one left.

That last golem turned and ran.

However, the moment Adam took a step forward to pursue.

Shhk!

A razor-sharp wind blade tore through the golem’s waist. The momentum of its escape carried the upper half forward a few more steps before gravity reclaimed it.

But before the torso could hit the ground.

Shhk!

A second wind blade sliced through its neck, severing the head mid-fall and ending it instantly.

"..."

Adam stopped.

Did my kill just get stolen?

He turned toward the source of the attack.

Abigail stood there calmly, folding her battle fan and sliding it back into its holster as if she hadn’t just executed a perfect double strike.

Adam didn’t look at her for long.

Instead, his gaze shifted to the six golem corpses he had left for the others.

Most of them bore deep, clean marks from wind slashes.

At that moment, the expected thought "she’s strong" never came.

Instead, Adam thought:

What a show-off.

The irony was completely lost on him.

He was still faintly annoyed about having his kill stolen, but he let it go. Soon after, the group began harvesting monster parts.

Adam claimed seventeen golems for himself.

The remaining six were split among the others, with Abigail keeping the one she had "borrowed" from him.

Adam could have sworn she was grinning at him.

But he couldn’t prove it. So he let it go.

With the harvesting done, the group regrouped and continued deeper into the tundra.

As they advanced toward the southern boundary, Adam found his gaze drifting, again and again, toward Abigail.

He didn’t want to admit it, but she was stronger than she looked.

Not just competent or well-trained, but strong in the actual sense.

She moved with the ease of someone who had fought real battles, reacted without hesitation, and trusted her own power completely.

She didn’t rely on others to cover for her, and she didn’t overextend either.

Adam clicked his tongue softly.

Is this the normal strength for clan heirs... or is she just special?

He already knew the answer wasn’t that she was stronger than him. [Connect] didn’t lie.

His senses were precise enough to gauge relative power, and Abigail was still clearly below him.

But knowing someone was strong and seeing it were two entirely different things.

And the latter carried far more weight.

Adam pushed the thought aside.

Letting it linger would only distract him.

They encountered a few more frost golems along the way, but nothing worth noting. The group handled them efficiently, their coordination smooth after the earlier fight. Within minutes, the terrain began to change.

The southern boundary came into view.

And with it, the rift breach.

Unlike most incursions, Golem’s Tundra was structured differently. Its rift wasn’t centered deep within the territory.

Instead, its epicenter sat right at the edge, pressed against the edge of the incursion itself.

The faint shimmer of the barrier was visible here, distorting the air where it overlapped with the warped environment. Essence currents felt heavier, and more turbulent.

As soon as they arrived, the acolytes moved into action, unpacking devices and beginning their scans.

Adam and Abigail exchanged a glance.

No words were needed.

They nodded once and stepped forward, focusing on the area around the breach.

Adam’s eyes sharpened.

Alright, let’s see if our suspicions are right.
