Martial Arts Worlds-Chapter 283: Infirmary Talks
In Baobab High's infirmary.
"…"
Roy sat silently on his bed, his legs covered by a thick blanket, and his eyes fixed on the small window across the room.
It was unclear what he was thinking about.
At that moment, the door of the infirmary opened, and the members of Baobab High walked in, still drying up the tears of their losses.
"Roy, how're you doing?"
The coach asked with a slightly choked voice.
While it was his duty to act tough even in the face of defeat, it was still difficult for him as this was his last year as Baobab High's coach.
He knew that it was unlikely to reach all the way to the finals and lift that glorious trophy, he still wished to reach the quarterfinals, where the big stages were used.
However, the wall they had to climb to reach that stage was too much for them.
"I am good… good…"
Roy said, and then looked at the rest, noticing their red eyes and dried-up tear lines on their cheeks.
It was an emotional loss for them.
'Well, it is my fault…'
Roy lowered his head and felt a pang of guilt.
'Undefeated champion… what a joke.'
The loss was very sudden. He dominated for over half of the match, but then Julian was able to reverse the roles with a single attack.
With the jolt of pain coursing through his body, he was pretty much paralyzed after that point, and it was very easy for Julian in the end.
"We're sorry, boss."
Shri and Harit suddenly bowed their heads and apologized. They were bowing towards Roy, who looked surprised at that.
"Why are two of you apologizing? I was the one who lost in the end."
Roy said.
"If we had fought better… injured Julian more, you could have won. In the end, we failed to do such a simple task and cost you the match."
The two said with a look of defeat and felt even worse after remembering that they were all third-years. This was their last chance.
"It's not your fault…"
Roy said and chuckled humorously.
"In hindsight, we never had a chance. To win against Julian already needs a herculean effort, and he isn't even Karuza High's ace."
The people in the infirmary looked quite surprised at Roy's words. They had never heard him speak such heavy-toned words.
Usually, he was quite the goofball, shouting about him being an undefeated champion, but now he truly looked like a very defeated individual.
Roy then tossed the blanket off his legs and stood up on his bed. The corner of his shirt flapped, showing the bandaged torso underneath.
Even standing up hurt him very much.
"However… In my imagination, I was able to defeat them, which means it is possible!"
Roy laughed loudly, and in a joking way, lifted his arms up, wincing slightly at the pain.
"I might not be an undefeated champion anymore, but I will carry this one loss with a heavy heart and a determination to come back stronger next time."
Others looked at him with stunned looks, then chuckled and gave him a pat on the back, knowing that he would indeed come back stronger.
'I will pay back this humiliation one day, Julian. I am not a person that quits that easily!'
Roy breathed deeply.
…
In Karuza High's infirmary.
"Are you alright, buddy?"
Coach Jin asked Jonathan after seeing his heavily bandaged head. It looked like he happened to bang his head quite badly in his fight.
"Uh, I guess."
Jonathan shrugged his shoulders and said that he was feeling just fine.
"Mm."
Coach Jin nodded.
He had already received the doctor's reports, and he said that Jonathan should be good to go and participate in the next round of matches.
"Ouch… ouch…"
"Stop being such a baby."
Kiernan said as he applied some medicine on Julian's wounds on his face.
If those were left untreated, they would leave nasty scar on his otherwise handsome face.
"It stings! Ouch!"
Julian complained, and whenever the cool liquid medicine touched his wound, he couldn't help but wince in pain.
"Such a baby…"
Kiernan said and finished pouring medicine on the wound. Then, he wrapped a bandage around Julian's face to help the wound heal.
"How long do I have to wear this bandage? I look so stupid…"

Julian asked.
The bandage was a bright shade of pink and went over Julian's left eye and his cheek. It made him look pretty silly, for sure.
"It should heal enough before the next match."
Kiernan said.
"The next match…"
Julian whispered and remembered Coach Jin's expression when he found out that their next opponent was powerhouse Kanyon High.
It definitely brought him some bad memories.
Last year, they faced off against first seed Tiamut High in the quarterfinals, and now they have to fight the second seed Kanyon High.
Kanyon High was also quite a favorite to win this year's nationals. It was all because of their ace, Thorsten Reed.
"Kiernan, go get me a drink from the vending machine, will you?"
Julian asked.
"You go get your own drink. What am I, a servant of yours?"
"I am not going anywhere with this fucking pink bandage on my face? By the way, why did you choose the pink one? You did that on purpose, didn't you!"
Kiernan shrugged his shoulders innocently, and before Julian decided to punch him in the face, he stood up and walked out of the infirmary to go get him the drink.
"That bastard…"
Julian clicked his tongue.
"I had a drink for you."
Coach Jin said, and showed one of the water bottles on his bag.
"Those are warm as hell. I need something cool for once."
Julian said, and despite the bed's being reserved for injured ones, he lay down and closed his eyes for a moment.
"Such a diva."
Coach Jin shook his head, but he couldn't hide the small smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"So coach, are we changing anything for the next match?"
Dominic asked.
He thought it would be better for him to participate in the next match as he was in perfect condition, and he wasn't that much weaker than Julian.
"No… I think the boys will handle it just fine."
