Martial Arts Overlord-Chapter 610 - 608: Yue Haitang’s Sword
Above the sea of clouds, a massive green Sword Qi tore through the air, covering over a thousand meters in a single sweep. A continuous, shrill sound trailed behind it.
On the way, Yue Haitang looked at Luo Feng and asked, "Luo Feng, what are your plans moving forward?"
Luo Feng understood she was worried about his life-and-death duel with Yi Tian and replied, "I’ll first pass the Twelve Golden Palaces’ assessment. I haven’t thought too much about other matters for now."
"We should head to the Imperial City together when the time comes," Yue Haitang, who seemed to be contemplating something, suddenly said.
"Alright." Luo Feng nodded.
At that moment, a ray of cyan light suddenly shot forth, moving at an extraordinary speed.
"That’s Feng Linshan’s Spirit Mirror," Qing Yun said lightly. With a wave of her fair hand, the cyan ray of light landed in her palm.
"A Spirit Mirror sent by the Principal?" Curiosity flickered in the eyes of both Yue Haitang and Xin Wuyue.
Qing Yun’s shapely brows furrowed slightly, but then she relaxed. She halted her Sword Qi, her beautiful eyes turning to Yue Haitang. "Your father is here. He wants to see you. It seems to be about the life-and-death duel between Luo Feng and Yi Tian."
Luo Feng was secretly shocked. The news of his life-and-death duel with Yi Tian hadn’t spread yet; many people were still unaware. Yet, Yue Haitang’s father had already received word!
"My father is here... Where is he?" Yue Haitang pursed her lips slightly, her face showing a hint of complexity.
Qing Yun said, "He is in Linfei City. Let’s go, I’ll take you there."
"Should I go too?" Luo Feng inquired, as this matter had, after all, arisen because of him.
"Luo Feng, aren’t you worried about Bing Ruolan and the others’ safety? You should head to Sky Frost City first." Before Qing Yun could speak, Yue Haitang suddenly said.
After a moment’s thought, Luo Feng nodded. "Alright, I’ll go to Sky Frost City first. If anything happens, you can find me at Sky Mountain."
With a leap, Luo Feng disappeared into the cloud layer.
"Yue Haitang, your father hoped to bring Luo Feng with him. Why did you let him leave first?" Qing Yun asked.
Yue Haitang stared in the direction where Luo Feng’s figure had disappeared, a slight frown on her face. "If he had gone with us, his life might have been in danger."
"Luo Feng saved you. Would your father really kill him?" Xin Wuyue thought Yue Haitang was joking and shook her head with a laugh. But seeing Yue Haitang’s grave expression, she frowned and asked, "Could it really be true?"
Yue Haitang didn’t explain, but her eyes expressed a deep solemnity.
"I see. Let’s go to Linfei City," Qing Yun murmured thoughtfully to herself. The massive Sword Qi made a turn in mid-air and headed in another direction.
「The cold wind was biting, and snow drifted down from the sky.」
Luo Feng executed the Teng Dragon’s Step. Ten Qi Dragons roared around him, preventing any snowflakes from coming within a three-meter radius, giving him a rather imposing aura.
A pale morning sun hung high in the sky. Heaven and earth were a single white expanse, a magnificent sight. On the distant horizon, a massive city was faintly visible.
A distance of several hundred li was but a moment’s journey for a Spiritual Rotation Realm martial artist. Luo Feng had already entered the Sky Frost City region.
"I wonder if Bing Ruolan and the others are still in Sky Frost City," Luo Feng mused, exhaling a puff of white breath. He accelerated towards Sky Frost City, leaving a huge white wake behind him.
On the snow-mantled city wall, two slender figures stood side by side, creating a beautiful scene.
"Why hasn’t Luo Feng appeared yet? Could he have already returned to Sky Mountain?" Bing Ruolan gazed at the sky, now filled with swirling wind and snow. She blew a puff of white air onto her hands, her beautiful eyes filled with worry.
He Qin remained silent, but her clear, cool eyes also showed a hint of solemn concern.
Suddenly, He Qin lifted her head towards the sky, and without any change of expression, she said, "Someone is coming."
WHOOSH!
A figure tore through the wind and snow, quickly arriving before them. The figure was tall and imposing, bearing the unique Purple Sun emblem of the Purple Sun School on his chest.
"Luo Feng!" Seeing the newcomer, Bing Ruolan’s eyes lit up with pleasant surprise. She hurried to welcome him, "Are you okay? What took you so long?"
"Something held me up a bit." Seeing them both, Luo Feng sighed in relief, concealing the fact that he was injured.
Noticing the deep footprints in the snow beside them, his brows furrowed. "You’ve been waiting here all this time?"
"Not really," Bing Ruolan said, her hands behind her back. She stuck out her tongue playfully. "We had nothing else to do and guessed you’d come to Sky Frost City to meet us, so we came to take a look." Her cheerful smile seemed to brighten the very air around them.
Luo Feng chuckled. He didn’t entirely believe her, but a warmth spread through his heart.
His gaze swept across the surroundings. Apart from some damage to the city walls, the city itself showed no major signs of battle, which he found strange.
Bing Ruolan explained with a laugh, "Sky Frost City is fortified by the Extreme Yin Cold Sky Formation. When the Underground Demons attacked, the Formation activated, and snow sealed an area of a hundred li. All but the Sky Flying Demons were frozen into ice sculptures. The battle here wasn’t very intense."
"Snow sealing a hundred li... Truly unbelievable." Luo Feng pictured the scene in his mind and took a deep breath.
Bing Ruolan glanced back at He Qin, winked, and chuckled, "Hee hee, He Qin and I teamed up and killed eight Sky Flying Demons. We can exchange them for twenty-four Qingyuan Pills!" 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Not bad." Seeing Bing Ruolan’s slightly smug expression, Luo Feng smiled. Eight was indeed a decent number.
He Qin looked at Luo Feng and suddenly asked, "Luo Feng, how many Sky Flying Demons have you killed?"
Luo Feng rubbed his nose. "Forty-two."
Before the Sky Flying Demons fled, Luo Feng had killed another fourteen, bringing his total to forty-two. If you included their commander, it would be forty-three.
"Forty-two..." Bing Ruolan covered her lips with her hand, her face a mask of astonishment.
He Qin’s eyebrows shot up, clearly shocked by this number.
As far as they knew, even the person who had killed the most Sky Flying Demons in Sky Frost City couldn’t compare to this achievement.
After their initial surprise, the two quickly calmed down. Luo Feng had managed to retreat unharmed from both Wei Kuang and ’Blood Hand’ Xu Zhan, one of the ten great young experts. His strength was clearly extraordinary.
Luo Feng saw their expressions and smiled faintly. If the Sky Flying Demon commander hadn’t ambushed him midway, his tally would have been even higher.
"You’re always so surprising," Bing Ruolan said, pouting her red lips. She suddenly asked, "Oh, right, we heard a rumor. Is it true that you and Yi Tian agreed to a life-and-death duel in the Imperial City three months from now?"
Bing Ruolan had never seen Luo Feng interact with Yi Tian, so she didn’t believe the rumor but decided to ask anyway.
"It’s true." Luo Feng admitted with a nod.
"You really made a life-and-death pact with Yi Tian?" Bing Ruolan’s shapely brows furrowed, and a hint of astonishment appeared in He Qin’s eyes as well.
Yi Tian, the Princely Heir of Qingyun Mansion and an expert on the New Dragon Ranking, possessed considerable fame in the Six Southern Domains due to his skills and status. Both of them had heard of him.
Neither had expected the rumor to be true.
"Let’s go back to Sky Mountain. I’ll explain everything on the way," Luo Feng said.
Most of the academy students in Sky Frost City had already departed. The three of them, each lost in their own thoughts, also set off immediately for Sky Mountain.
On the way, Luo Feng explained the entire sequence of events to Bing Ruolan and He Qin, only omitting any mention of the Sword Heart Heaven Jade.
Things having reached this point, Bing Ruolan and He Qin, despite feeling the duel was far too dangerous, knew there was nothing they could do.
Bing Ruolan pursed her lips and said, "I’ll go with you then. He may be a Princely Heir, but once we pass the assessment, we’ll be disciples of the Twelve Golden Palaces. He shouldn’t dare to act too outrageously."
"I’ll go too," He Qin stated calmly.
"Alright." Luo Feng nodded. There were still three months. Others might think it impossible, but he believed he could definitely surpass Yi Tian.
...
Linfei City was nestled in a lush forest, surrounded by fire paulownia trees that remained a brilliant crimson year-round, resembling a sea of fire. It was an incredibly magnificent scenic spot in the Six Southern Domains.
Yue Haitang accompanied Qing Yun to Linfei City and entered a luxurious restaurant alone.
Reaching the door of a private room in the restaurant, Yue Haitang frowned slightly. She raised her hand to knock several times, only to lower it again, hesitating.
"Since you’re here, come in," a deep, resonant voice called from inside the private room.
Yue Haitang took a deep breath, pushed the door open, and closed it behind her.
Inside the private room, a middle-aged man stood by the window. He was fair-complexioned and beardless, dressed in splendid brocade robes that exuded an air of nobility. His eyes, though calm on the surface, held a piercing sharpness, like those of a coiled tiger, naturally commanding respect without any display of anger.
Seeing Yue Haitang, a hint of tenderness softened the middle-aged man’s gaze. He glanced behind her and then asked with a frown, "Haitang, are you alone? Where is Luo Feng from the Purple Sun School?"
"He didn’t come," Yue Haitang replied, her voice tinged with an inexplicable coldness.
The middle-aged man gave a bitter smile. "Are you still blaming me for your mother leaving? I had no choice in the matter back then."
"With your status, is there anything in this world that could truly leave you with no choice?" Yue Haitang retorted, her lips pressed tightly together as she stared intently at the middle-aged man.
"This world is vast, far larger than you can imagine. The entire Canglang Dynasty is but a single grain of millet in a vast ocean..." The middle-aged man gazed out the window, his outwardly calm eyes glinting with a sharp light, as if lost in some distant memory.
After a moment, he let out a long breath and extended his hand. "Give me the Sword Heart Heaven Jade."
"The Sword Heart Heaven Jade is something my mother left me." Yue Haitang averted her gaze.
The middle-aged man nodded. "I know that. That’s why, despite knowing the enormous implications it carries, I’ve allowed you to keep it. But now you’ve used it as a gambling stake. This, I absolutely will not permit, and neither would your mother. Leave the Sword Heart Heaven Jade with me. You can come retrieve it in three months!"
As he spoke, the middle-aged man spread his fingers, and an invisible aura enveloped Yue Haitang. His expression suddenly changed slightly. "Where is the Sword Heart Heaven Jade?"
Yue Haitang breathed a sigh of relief. She was glad she had entrusted the Sword Heart Heaven Jade to Luo Feng.
In three months, without the Sword Heart Heaven Jade, Luo Feng would forever bear the ignominy of fleeing battle without a fight.
Lifting her gaze, Yue Haitang said, "The Sword Heart Heaven Jade is not with me."
The middle-aged man’s eyebrow twitched, his voice deepening. "You gave it to Luo Feng?"
Knowing she couldn’t hide it, Yue Haitang stated directly, "The Sword Heart Heaven Jade is the stake for this duel. Luo Feng cannot be without it."
"His life or death is no concern of mine! The Sword Heart Heaven Jade is not something he is worthy of possessing!" The middle-aged man snorted coldly. The air around him swirled into a tempest, and an immense pressure filled the space. "You will stay here quietly. I am going to retrieve the Sword Heart Heaven Jade."
Just as the middle-aged man was about to move, suddenly—
CLANG!
A cold light flashed in the private room. Yue Haitang held a precious sword, its edge pressed against her own neck. Her gaze was fixed on the middle-aged man, her voice utterly frigid. "Father, if you insist on retrieving the Sword Heart Heaven Jade, I will take my own life immediately!"
