Marrying My Bestie's Ferocious Brother - He Calls Me His Baby!-Chapter 94: Those Who Once Gossiped Now Weep, The Hero Comes Home to Love!
"Dean Wu, can I really be discharged?"
Lin Wan Yi sat on the hospital bed, her face still pale, but her eyes were firm.
Dean Wu frowned.
"Mr. Lin, you’ve just had a baby five days ago!"
"Five days is enough." Lin Wan Yi smiled briefly. "I know my body; it’s better to rest at home."
Dean Wu wanted to say something more.
The door was pushed open.
Gu Yanshen walked in. His complexion was better than it was five days ago, but it was still quite pale.
"Dean." His voice was deep. "Let her be discharged."
Dean Wu looked at him.
"Mr. Gu, you just donated blood yourself!"
"I know." Gu Yanshen walked to Lin Wan Yi’s bedside. "But the baby needs her."
He paused.
"I need her at home too."
Dean Wu opened his mouth. Finally, he sighed.
"Alright." He turned to instruct the nurse. "Prepare the discharge paperwork."
Half an hour later.
At the hospital entrance.
Lin Wan Yi held onto Gu Yanshen’s arm, walking slowly out.
She wore a light blue dress, her hair neatly tied. Although still pale, she appeared to be in good spirits.
Gu Yanshen supported her with one hand and held a swaddled baby in the other.
The other swaddled baby was being carefully held by Wang Xiu’e.
Just as they reached the entrance.
"Attention!"
A loud command rang out.
Lin Wan Yi froze.
In the open space at the hospital entrance, an entire company of soldiers stood.
They wore crisp military uniforms, standing in two rows with a straight aisle in between.
The regiment commander stood at the front of the line.
He saluted Lin Wan Yi with a standard military salute when he saw her.
"Comrade Lin Wan Yi!" His voice was strong. "Welcome home, hero!"
"Swipe!"
All the soldiers collectively saluted.
Lin Wan Yi’s eyes instantly turned red.
"Commander..." Her voice choked. "This... this is too solemn..."
The commander smiled.
"You’ve brought honor to the country; this is the least we can do."
He walked over and looked at the baby in Wang Xiu’e’s arms, and then the one Gu Yanshen was holding.
"Are both little ones doing well?"
"Very well." Lin Wan Yi smiled. "Both are healthy."
The commander nodded.
"Good!" He slapped his thigh. "Our military region has gained two more successors to the revolution!"
He turned around and shouted loudly at the ranks.
"Comrades! Applaud for Comrade Lin Wan Yi!"
"Clap clap clap—"
Thunderous applause echoed throughout the hospital.
The military jeep slowly drove into the family quarters.
Before it even stopped, the entrance was already filled with people.
Lin Wan Yi looked out the car window and froze.
Almost all the neighbors from the family quarters came.
They held items in their hands, including eggs, brown sugar, fabric, and various supplements.
The car stopped.
Gu Yanshen got out first and carefully helped Lin Wan Yi out.
"Wanyi!" Someone called from the crowd.
Then, everyone gathered around.
"Wanyi, you’re finally back!"
"I made chicken soup for you, you must drink it!"
"I have brown sugar from my hometown, it’s great for blood replenishment!"
Lin Wan Yi was startled by the enthusiasm.
"Everyone... you’re all too kind..."
In the crowd, a few ladies who loved to gossip squeezed in as well.
They wore apologetic smiles.
"Wanyi, we were ignorant before..."
"Please don’t take it to heart..."
Lin Wan Yi looked at them and smiled.
"What’s past is past."
The gossipy ladies teared up.
"You really are a good child..."
Gu Yanshen coldly accepted the gifts from their hands.
"Thank you on her behalf." He paused. "She still needs rest due to her weak condition."
The neighbors immediately made way.
"Yes, yes, go home and rest!"
"If you need any help, just let us know!"
At home.
Gu Lan had already tidied everything up.
In the living room, there was a large bed.
"Sister-in-law, you can sleep here first." Gu Lan proudly pointed to the bed. "The bedroom is for the two little ancestors!"
Lin Wan Yi laughed.
"Gu Lan, thank you for your hard work."
"Oh, it’s nothing!" Gu Lan came over and carefully took one of the babies. "Being able to care for my nephew is my pleasure!"
She looked down at the little one in her arms.
"Wow, how adorable!"
The baby waved its little fist and accidentally hit Gu Lan on the nose.
"Ouch!" Gu Lan held her nose. "Little ancestor, be gentle!"
Lin Wan Yi and Wang Xiu’e both laughed.
Gu Yanshen walked over and took the baby from Gu Lan, clumsily holding it.
"You go boil water," he told Gu Lan. "Wanyi needs a bath."
"Got it!" Gu Lan immediately ran to the kitchen.
Lin Wan Yi looked at Gu Yanshen.
"You’re not fully recovered yet, don’t carry the baby all the time."
Gu Yanshen shook his head.
"I’m fine." He looked down at the baby in his arms. "I want to hold them more."
Lin Wan Yi’s eyes welled up again.
She reached out and gently patted Gu Yanshen’s arm.
"Yanshen."
"Hmm?" 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"Thank you."
Gu Yanshen turned to look at her.
"That’s silly." His voice was soft. "I should be the one thanking you."
He paused.
"Thank you for giving me two sons."
In the evening.
Lin Wan Yi had just finished feeding the babies, both of whom were quietly sleeping.
She leaned against the bed, watching the sunset out the window.
"Knock knock—"
A knock sounded on the door.
"Come in."
The door opened, and the commander walked in.
"Wanyi." He walked to the bedside.
Lin Wan Yi sat up straight.
"Commander, why are you here?"
The commander looked at her, his eyes full of comfort.
"To see our hero." He smiled, then his expression became serious. "There’s something I need to tell you in advance."
Lin Wan Yi’s heart tightened.
"What is it?"
"Your deeds have spread across the military region." The commander said. "People from the province, even in Beijing, have heard about it. Your spirit of persevering with the college entrance exam in the delivery room has had a big impact."
Lin Wan Yi was stunned.
"So..." The commander looked at her. "You might need to prepare yourself; there should be journalists coming to interview you soon. This is an honor but also a challenge."
Journalists?
Lin Wan Yi hadn’t yet processed this news.
The commander reassured her, "Don’t be nervous, just tell the truth when the time comes. You are an example for women in our military area, no, across the country!"
The night deepened.
Lin Wan Yi lay in bed, her mind still replaying everything from the day.
The military formation, the neighbors’ enthusiasm, and the news brought by the commander.
It all felt like a dream.
"Wanyi."
Gu Yanshen’s voice came from beside her.
Lin Wan Yi turned her head and saw him sitting at the edge of the bed, holding a baby.
"Why aren’t you asleep?" she asked.
"I can’t sleep." Gu Yanshen looked down at the baby in his arms. "I was thinking..."
"Thinking about what?"
"About naming them."
Lin Wan Yi paused, then smiled.
"Sure, have you thought of any?"
Gu Yanshen was silent for a moment.
"The first one will be called Gu An."
"The second one will be called Gu Ning."
He paused, his voice filled with infinite tenderness.
"Peace and joy, a lifetime of serenity."
Lin Wan Yi looked at him, her eyes welling up once more.
"Alright." Her voice was soft. "Those will be their names."
Gu Yanshen placed the baby back in the cradle and then sat by Lin Wan Yi’s side, holding her hand.
"Wanyi."
"Hmm?"
"In the future." His voice was gentle. "I will protect you all well."
Lin Wan Yi smiled.
"I know."
She looked at the stars outside the window.
"Yanshen."
"Hmm?"
"Our days." She softly said. "Will only get better."
Gu Yanshen tightened his grip on her hand.
"They will."
"They definitely will."
