Chapter 117: Chapter 117: I Can Warm the Bed for You (1)

Ferris Caldwell looked at Ethan Sterling in confusion, "And you are?"

Stepping forward to stand next to Seraphina Thorne, Ethan Sterling frowned and glanced at Ferris Caldwell.

Like a lion spotting an intruder, he narrowed his eyes.

"I’m her husband."

"Hello." Ferris Caldwell smiled and extended his right hand, "Ferris Caldwell."

Ethan Sterling did not shake hands with him; instead, he raised his hand and took the violin from Seraphina Thorne.

"Sorry, my wife and I need to talk, excuse us."

Carrying the violin in one hand, he naturally grabbed Seraphina Thorne’s wrist and pulled her to the end of the corridor.

"Is this why you want to divorce me?"

"Dr. Caldwell is just a friend I met on the plane." Seraphina Thorne withdrew her hand from his, "Our issues have nothing to do with him."

Ethan Sterling realized his attitude and adjusted his tone.

"Seraphina, let’s go out and celebrate, celebrate that you’ve finally won this grand prize."

"No need." Seraphina shook her head gently, "I’m a little tired and want to go back to the hotel first."

"Then I’ll take you."

"It’s no trouble." Seraphina reached over and grabbed the handle of the violin case from his hand, "I can manage on my own."

Ethan Sterling closed his fingers around the handle of the violin case.

"I insist!"

In the corridor, the other participants had already packed their things and were ready to leave.

Noticing the two of them, many people turned their curious gazes.

A guard saw the situation and proactively ran over.

"Miss, do you need any help?"

"It’s fine, we know each other."

Seraphina Thorne didn’t want to make a scene, released her fingers, and turned to walk towards the lounge.

Ethan Sterling followed silently, swiftly helping her pack up her things. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"No need, I can do it myself."

"Why be so polite with me?" Ethan Sterling blocked her arm, "I know how to pack, don’t worry!"

Seraphina Thorne, helpless, had to stand aside.

After helping her pack, Ethan Sterling took her coat and draped it over her shoulders, carrying all her belongings with both hands.

"Those flowers... can you bring them for me?"

Seraphina glanced at the table, at the bouquet Ethan Sterling brought, reached over, and held the flowers in her arms, silently following behind him.

At the bottom of the steps, Sean Hale was already waiting by the car.

Seeing the two coming down the steps, he hurriedly opened the back door.

Seraphina Thorne sat in the back seat, with Ethan Sterling following right after, sitting beside her.

Sean Hale glanced at their expressions and took the front passenger seat.

"President Sterling, where to?"

"The Crestview Hotel."

Seraphina Thorne spoke up first, giving the name of the hotel she was staying at.

Ethan Sterling didn’t speak, and Sean Hale signaled the driver with a nod.

"The Crestview Hotel."

The car quickly arrived at the foot of The Crestview Hotel, Sean Hale opened the door, and Seraphina Thorne stood by the car, extending her hand.

"I can carry it myself."

"I’ll walk you up."

Ethan Sterling, carrying the belongings, strode up the steps.

Seraphina Thorne, helpless, had to follow him into the hotel lobby.

They took the elevator together up to Seraphina Thorne’s floor, where she took out her key card and swiped it to open the door, with Ethan Sterling carrying everything inside.

To save money, Seraphina Thorne had rented the most basic hotel room.

The room faced the shaded side, with only a small window.

No air conditioning, poor partitioning, one could even hear the loud voice of a man next door.

Placing the violin and trophy on the table, Ethan Sterling glanced around, frowning.

"A place like this isn’t safe. Why don’t you come back to the hotel with me?"

"No need to trouble yourself; I find this place quite alright." Seraphina Thorne removed her coat, "You should go; I’ll contact you about the divorce procedures once I’m back in the country."

"Seraphina!" Ethan Sterling grabbed her wrist, "I know it’s my fault before, I didn’t know my limits. I’ll change, alright?"

"I’m sorry!" Seraphina Thorne withdrew her hand, "I’m tired and want to rest early."

Ethan Sterling frowned, gazing at her face for a moment.

"Fine. You take the bed, and I’ll take the sofa."

"Ethan Sterling, can’t you... can’t you just stop this?"

"No, I can’t!" Ethan Sterling’s tone was overbearing, "Either we go back to my hotel together, or... I’m staying here."

Seraphina Thorne angrily frowned, "On what grounds?"

"On the grounds that I’m your husband." Ethan Sterling lifted his hand to unbutton his coat, taking off his outerwear, "As long as we aren’t divorced, I’m still your husband, and I have the right and duty to protect you."

"You..." Seraphina Thorne was exasperated, "Why are you so persistent?"

"I’ve always been this persistent." Ethan Sterling sat on the sofa, shrugging, "You didn’t just meet me today."

"You..." Seraphina Thorne was out of words, pressed her lips, glanced at him sideways, "Do as you please."

She took her pajamas from the closet and turned to the bathroom.

After showering and drying her hair, she pretended he didn’t exist, went to bed, and pulled the covers over herself, turning off the bedside lamp with a snap.

The room grew dark.

Seraphina Thorne lay in bed, unable to sleep.

She stole a glance at the sofa through the chink in the curtain.

Ethan Sterling remained seated there, like a statue in the dark, showing no intention of leaving.

Ethan Sterling sat on the sofa, watching her actions.

"If you can’t sleep, we can talk?"

"I’m tired; I don’t want to talk."

"If you’re cold, I can warm the bed for you."

"No need!"

Annoyed, she turned over, yanking the covers over her head.

The hotel’s sound insulation was poor; Seraphina Thorne hadn’t slept well these days, and with the added stress of late-night practice for the competition, her body and mind were worn to the limit.

Perhaps because Ethan Sterling was there, or because she was truly exhausted, she fell asleep unaware.

Listening to her breathing slow, Ethan Sterling quietly walked over, uncovering the blanket from her head, tucking it under her neck.

He gazed at her face in the light spilling through the window.

He bent down, gently kissed her forehead.

"Honey, congratulations on finally getting the trophy you wished for."

Seraphina Thorne shrank slightly, her eyes closed.

Noticing her hand outside the blanket, Ethan Sterling gently cupped her hand, trying to tuck it under the cover.

Her palm was icy cold.

Ethan Sterling frowned, slipping his hand under the covers to check.

Solara’s winter was warm by day, but damp and cold at night.

Seraphina Thorne’s room faced the shaded side, amplifying the chill.

There was barely any warmth under the blanket.

He turned, took their coats, and carefully covered the blanket with them, lying down beside her.

Avoiding waking her, he reached over, hugged her along with the covers.

Gradually warmed, Seraphina Thorne’s contracted limbs relaxed.

She nudged her head close to Ethan Sterling’s warm chest, finding a comfortable position, contentedly falling back to sleep.

Feeling her small movements, Ethan Sterling’s lips curved.

He tugged the blanket tighter, wrapping his arms around her.

"Seraphina, I won’t let you leave me!"
