Marrying His Nemesis: Kicking My Scumbag Fiancé Away!-Chapter 115: Let’s Get a Divorce (Part 1)
Watching Ferris Caldwell leave, Seraphina Thorne dragged her suitcase into the hotel lobby.
After completing the check-in process, she went to her room.
She ordered a meal and quickly organized her luggage.
The server brought the meal to the room, but Seraphina had no appetite. Still, she forced herself to eat until she couldn’t swallow any more.
The competition was imminent; she needed to adjust to her best state and should rest to adapt to the jet lag.
However, even after washing up and lying in bed, she couldn’t really fall asleep.
Grabbing the medicine bottle from the bedside, she took out two pills, tossed them into her mouth, and washed them down with cold water. Then she turned off the lamp and closed her eyes.
But she hadn’t been lying down long when her stomach suddenly churned.
Seraphina hurriedly crawled out of bed and dashed into the bathroom, where she vomited up all the pills and food she had just consumed.
After splashing her face with cold water, Seraphina pulled a tissue to wipe the moisture from her face.
Staring at her own reflection, she couldn’t help but think of Ethan Sterling again.
Scenes of their life together after marriage flashed before her eyes like a carousel.
She closed her eyes for a moment, then returned to the room, sat at the desk, and opened her laptop.
Her fingers gently tapped on the keyboard, typing a line—
"Divorce Agreement."
She tapped and modified, continuously revising...
Until late into the night, she finally completed the agreement.
Raising her left hand, she closed the laptop. Her eyes fell on the blue diamond ring on her finger. Seraphina lifted her hand and gently stroked the ring.
She slowly removed the ring, carefully cleaned it, took out the spare jewelry box from her suitcase, and put the ring away.
Back in bed, she turned over several times on the pillow but still couldn’t fall asleep.
Her fingers instinctively reached out to touch the now-bare spot where the ring had been.
When she first started wearing the ring, she found it somewhat uncomfortable.
But then she gradually got used to its presence. Now that it was suddenly gone, she felt a bit uneasy.
Though she had removed only a ring, it felt as if a piece of her heart had been taken out, causing a tugging pain.
That night, she didn’t know when exactly she fell asleep.
When she groggily woke up, it was already midday the next day.
Worried she might miss the competition check-in time, Seraphina didn’t bother to eat.
She hurriedly flagged down a taxi and rushed to the competition committee’s location, barely checking in before the deadline.
As she left the committee building with her bag, she glanced around and noticed a candy store across the street. Seraphina quickly stepped forward, intending to cross the road.
Suddenly, she was hit by a wave of dizziness.
Seraphina quickly stopped, holding on to a lamppost by the roadside.
Behind her, there were urgent footsteps.
An arm reached out, offering an unwrapped piece of chocolate candy.
"Quick... Have some candy first!"
Hearing Ethan Sterling’s voice, Seraphina looked up in surprise.
"What are you standing there for?" Ethan brought the candy to her mouth, "Eat it, quickly!"
Driven by concern for her health, Seraphina didn’t hesitate, opening her mouth to take the candy from his hand.
Supporting her arm, he helped her to a nearby bench, crouching in front of her with a worried expression.
"How do you feel? Any better?"
Seraphina pushed the candy to the side of her cheek with her tongue.
"I’m fine, thank you."
"I know it was my fault before," Ethan placed his hands on her knees, "I didn’t realize the boundaries, and I shouldn’t have gotten too close to Chloe Foster, which made you misunderstand. I apologize, darling, I’m sorry."
Seraphina pursed her lips and raised her eyes to meet his.
"Ethan, let’s get a divorce!"
She had thought it through the previous night.
Better a short pain than a prolonged agony.
Rather than continuing this tangled relationship and hurting each other, it was better to end it now.
Love is just a luxury; it’s wonderful if you have it, but it’s not a big deal if you don’t.
Ethan was stunned for a few seconds.
"Seraphina, things aren’t like you think. Chloe and I really didn’t do anything. I just consider her a sister. I was in the study all that night—I didn’t touch her."
"That doesn’t matter anymore," Seraphina gently shook her head, "I can’t trust you now because I don’t know which of your words are true and which are false. I don’t want to guess. I’m tired—exhausted by this game."
"This isn’t a game; I am serious about you." Ethan furrowed his brows, holding her hand, "Seraphina, I promise not to hide anything from you in the future, okay?"
Seraphina forcefully pulled her hand away from his grasp and stood up from the bench.
"I’ll return the ring to you later. I’ll give Zenith’s shares to you as agreed and allocate 3% of the shares to you to repay my debt to you. Thank you for taking care of me and helping me a lot. I’m sorry, but I can’t fulfill the agreement!"
Turning around, she walked briskly toward the opposite street.
"Seraphina!" Ethan chased after her, grabbing her arm, "I don’t believe it... Do you truly not like me at all?"
Seraphina slowly turned her face, meeting his gaze with reddened eyes.
"No, I admit that I like you. It’s precisely because I like you that I don’t want to continue."
Ethan frowned, "Why?"
"Because I don’t want you to become another Adrian Chamberlain. I don’t want to hate you."
That’s why she had to leave before this affection turned into hatred.
Pulling her arm from his grasp, Seraphina turned and quickly ran across the pedestrian crossing.
Ethan stepped forward to follow, but the green light had turned red.
"President Sterling..." Sean Hale rushed over and pulled him to the side of the road before he was hit by a car, "Please calm down!"
The cars passing by split the two apart.
Across the road, Seraphina turned to face Ethan for a moment amidst the traffic.
She hailed a taxi, sitting in the back seat.
"Drive."
The taxi drove off, as Seraphina withdrew her gaze from across the road, tears falling and shattering into pieces on her gray scarf.
...
...
The next day was the date of the official competition.
At six in the evening, Seraphina arrived at the competition venue on time—the Solara Golden Hall.
Like all contestants, after changing into her outfit and applying makeup in the dressing room, she immediately took out her violin from the case for pre-competition preparation.
She applied rosin to the bow, then took out the violin and carefully plucked the strings.
Clunk—
A light sound was heard as the sound post meant to hold the strings suddenly snapped.
Looking at the broken sound post in her hand, Seraphina was momentarily stunned, grabbing the violin to inspect it.
The sound post had broken in the middle; she wasn’t sure if it was due to improper handling or if it accidentally broke at the airport earlier.
No time to think further, Seraphina glanced at her watch, hurriedly stood up, and stopped a staff member.
"Hello, excuse me... does the committee provide violins?"
The staff member shrugged, "All contestants need to bring their own violins. We can’t provide violins."
"Then..." Seraphina grabbed her arm, "Do you know where I can buy a violin?"
"It’s too late. The stores should all be closed by now."
The staff member glanced sympathetically at the broken violin in her hand.
"Or maybe you can borrow a violin from someone?"
"Thank you, I’ll find a way."
The staff member walked away, and Seraphina crouched helplessly in the corridor clutching her violin.
Here, unfamiliar with the place and people, the contestants were from different countries, and who would lend their violin to an unknown competitor?
