Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 48: Afraid of the truth
Sage returned to the room to find it completely dark. The windows were obscured by thick black curtains, and the only light came from the fireplace.
Sage sighed with relief as she closed the door behind her, seeing that the demon panthers were still sleeping beside the fireplace.
She approached the bookshelf and took the book, Lonely Star, from it. "Perhaps it is time to reread this." She laughed as she caressed the book’s hard cover with her fingers.
Remembering Stefan’s question, "You look so pale, are you sick?" she frowned deeply and walked to the mirror that was located at the corner of the room and stood in front of it.
She did appear paler than usual, and she had lost a lot of weight. Nothing has gone well for her since meeting Cyrus. She had suffered greatly.
Her sadness was visible on her face, and her heart was heavy as she felt and saw tears fill her eyes.
She hugged herself and closed her eyes. "W..hat did I do to deserve all this?" Her voice shook and she sniffed.
"Nothing." A deep voice echoed behind her and she felt strong arms wrapped around her.
Sage’s eyes flew opened in shock.
Cyrus was hugging her from behind, his jaw resting on her shoulder.
"W..what are you doing? Let me go!" She shouted angrily and alas began to feel extreme lust for him.
"Calm down." Cyrus whispered.
Sage focused her gaze on the mirror. Their reflection... Cyrus had his eyes closed as his jaw rested on her shoulder. She couldn’t believe it but they actually looked like a happy loving couple.
She swallowed hard and placed her hands on his that were interlocked on her stomach.
"Nothing?" Her voice was deep and lingering with pain and rage. The lustful feeling vanished the moment she asked that question.
"Your friend, the water mage is safe with my friend." Cyrus revealed and Sage’s eyes widened in shock.
"Safe with your friend?" She asked and frowned. "Any friend of Cyrus Dragos is.."
"Prince River of Fireria." Cyrus interrupted her.
Sage eyes widened again as she didn’t expect that. "H..how are you friends with a fire dragon? He is the heir too!" She exclaimed dramatically.
"Yes. We are friends." Cyrus replied, his voice lower than usual.
Sage hummed. Did she trust him with the fact that Katherine was safe with River?
"I won’t believe you until I see her and hear from her." Sage told him.
"Mages of these days lack understanding if their powers." Cyrus suddenly chuckled.
Sage furrowed her eyebrows. "What?"
"In the past days, when mages used to be trained properly, mages were capable of communicating with themselves when they were far away from each other." Cyrus explained.
"Wow!" Sage exclaimed surprised by that information.
"Credia is a small kingdom with young mages. The older mages that were supposed to train you all properly are all dead." Cyrus stated with a sigh.
"I was told me that there was a war that wiped them out. No one expected that more mages would be born after that." Sage told him and pouted.
She smiled at her cute she was on her reflection and at Cyrus who looked like he was asleep.
"The person who told you this didn’t tell you what caused the war and who they were against right?." Cyrus asked with a scoff.
"Fath... Julius told me," Sage’s heart clenched as she spoke. "No one knows about what caused the war and who they were against but I am sure you do."
She saw Cyrus red lips curve into smile that brought out his dimples.
"You are getting smart my dear parrot,"
Sage frowned at his words.
"What about your mother?" Cyrus suddenly asked and she felt her heart skip a beat when his eyes fluttered open in their silver reptile like form.
"She died." Sage’s voice was hard, her expression serious while Cyrus maintained his dimple smile. "Your eternal winter killed her." Sage growled as she began who feel lust for him once more.
"Hm? Wrong." Cyrus scoffed and his grip around her tightened. "My winter didn’t kill you mother, your aunt Lia did." Cyrus revealed.
"What?!" Sage couldn’t believe her ears! Her eyes turned into their fiery red form.
"Let me go," She said calmly trying to hide her fury within.
Cyrus shut his eyes once again, his arms totally locked around her.
"Cyrus!" Sage yelled and started struggling but just as the lust increased, she felt incredibly weak.
"I told you to trust me." Cyrus whispered and released her.
Sage turned to face him frowning deeply. "Trust you?" She asked with a mocking scoff. "You are pathetic!" She spat.
"You told me to tell you everything." Cyrus spoke calmly, his expression bored.
"Telling me that your winter didn’t kill my mother but my aunt Lia is not everything!" Sage screamed at him.
"Why would I lie?" Cyrus asked.
Sage’s eyes twitched in anger. "What kind of question is that?" Sage asked with disbelief.
"Answer me!" Cyrus growled, his gaze sharpened.
"You married me to take my fire core remember?" Sage asked and bursted into laughter as her eyes filled with tears. "You are a curse to my life." She added with a broken voice.
"Your life has never been normal dear parrot, I won’t lie to you and you do not need to see or hear anything before believing what I tell you."
"But seeing is believing, Cyrus Dragos," Sage’s voice and expression was cold.
"Then you can continue living a life of confusion." Cyrus hissed and walked away, out of the room closing the door loudly behind him.
Sage trembled and sat on the ground. As she whimpered, tears streamed from her eyes and down her cheek.
Was he really telling her the truth? Did her aunt Lia really kill her mother? Had she been living in the world of lies?
Sage burst into tears.
Suddenly, the door unexpectedly opened. Cyrus walked into the room, his soft gaze fixed on his crying parrot. He approached her and took her into his arms.
"You have a problem," he said as she buried her face in his chest.
"Be quiet!" She suppressed a scream.
"You are afraid of the truth." He told her, and she let out a dramatic wail.
