Chapter 36: Home bitter home 2

"What is going on? Why are you all acting as if Dexter is your king?" Sage asked, expecting a response as a guard opened the dungeon’s gate and pushed her inside, where she fell.

"You ask way too many questions!" She was yelled at by a guard.

Sage’s eyes turned a fiery red, but she was too weak to allow fire to appear. She was relieved she hadn’t landed on the nine-tailed fox she was holding.

She sat down on the dusty ground, and each of the guards scowled bitterly as they walked away.

Sage had no idea what was going on.

Why were they treating her like an enemy, a stranger, and a piece of dirt?

She needed answers, particularly about Dexter’s controls.

Since she left her kingdom, it seemed like a lot had changed.

Katherine was nowhere to be found near Credia. Darren... He was not present at her wedding. He seemed to vanish into thin air after leaving her room that day.

Sage sighed and let the nine-tailed fox walk around the dungeon, but he didn’t move a muscle and glared at her, as if telling her that he would never step on such filthy ground.

Sage sighed and clutched the fox, who was curled up in her coat, closing his eyes.

Her expectations were pitifully low. Instead of her father greeting her with open arms, he greeted her with a stunned expression, and Dexter...

Dexter was a man who disgusted her to the bone, and he knew better than to mess with her, which is why she was perplexed as to why he suddenly had power over the guards and maids.

Dexter was married to Lia, and they had children. Sage despised Dexter because, on her twelveth birthday, he tried to ràpe her and, when she fought back by burning his chest, he said so many absurd words that she couldn’t understand.

Sage smiled, knowing that the wound she had caused on his chest had resulted in a large scar.

"Where are you, Father?" Sage made a weak call.

The mark of lust was weakening her even more, to the point where she could barely breathe, and Snowflake. Snowflake had bitten her father’s hand so hard that his skin had peeled off. It was surprising.

Sage squinted her eyes at the nine-tailed fox in her arms.

Did he do it because he was his dark state? Snowflake, according to Ava, was the most powerful guardian beast.

"Can you help me get out of here?" When she asked, he opened his blazing silver eyes, which reminded her of Cyrus.

"Cyrus!" She gasped in realisation, stood up, and dashed towards the gate.

"Let me out! Let me out!" Sage yelled.

She being here meant Cyrus was on his way, and the nine-tailed fox being in his dark state meant Cyrus was also in his dark state. Esteban was most likely on his way to Credia, and if this was true, a war would erupt there.

"Please let me out!" She screamed as loud as she could.

Too many things were happening at the same time! She was infuriated.

She gently placed the nine-tailed fox on the ground, removed the slightly dirty white coat, and held the gate’s metal bars.

"Screw it! I’m not a prisoner!" She screamed angrily.

Her eyes turned a fiery red, the bars on her grip melted, and the entire gate melted.

Sage caught her already slipping breath. She’d expended a lot of energy and couldn’t even stand on her own.

She forced a smile at the nonchalant nine-tailed fox, and darkness swallowed her.

Snowflake kept a dull expression on his face as he watched the fire mage collapse unconscious to the ground, his gaze narrowed at the melted iron bars of the dungeon’s gate.

After a few minutes, his ears began to flap. He growled quietly and hid beneath Sage’s thick white coat.

Julius entered the dungeon, stunned, not expecting to find the gate melted and Sage unconscious on the ground.

He scowled angrily and inquired. "Where has that pesky fox gone?"

He scowled deeply as there was no sign of the nine-tailed fox who had been hiding under Sage’s coat unknowingly to him.

Julius’ attention was drawn to his unconscious daughter, who appeared pale and weak.

His heart ached for her because she must have been confused by the changes in the castle, his heart held everything but guilt. He desired something, and she was the only person who could obtain it for him.

"Oh, my dear," He sighed and took slow steps towards her, placing his feet in front of her face. "He must be torturing you." His voice became harsh, and his eyes were filled with nothing but greed.

"You are my strong girl, and you have always been, which is why you are the saviour of this small kingdom, but your shadow cannot continue to cover my frame." His voice became angrier, and a small smile curved his lips. "Once you know everything, you’ll despise me." He groaned and sighed in frustration. "Why?! Why did you appear so unexpectedly at this critical juncture?!" He screamed angrily.

From behind, amused laughter erupted, and Dexter, who had a bandaged jaw, walked in, smiling.

Julius ignored him and focused his attention on his daughter.

"Are you afraid?" Dexter inquired mockingly.

"You ask as if you expected her to appear out of nowhere." Julius was enraged.

"Did you also believe she was dead?" Dexter chuckled.

"She should be." Julius replied through his teeth.

Dexter turned his attention to the unconscious girl on the ground. She was always energetic, and he was going to teach her a lesson.

"Bad timing, Esteban will be here by midnight." Dexter muttered.

"And since she is here, with that fox.." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

"That fox is a guardian beast, looks cute but evil to the core and it me..ans that the ice dragon will be here soon." Dexter interrupted, his voice a bit shaky.

"I do not want a war to break out in my kingdom." Julius’s voice rose in anger.

Dexter smiled slyly. "What do you want me to do?" He asked and Julius turned to him frowning deeply.

"Get rid of her." Julius replied and walked past Dexter, out of the dungeon.

Dexter’s smile increased. "It would be an honor."
