Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 238: Call and blessings
Katherine’s eyes flickered as she felt a powerful surge of energy. She took another look at the portal. Her eyes reflecting the light. "Sage, we must go now. I doubt I will be able to call the portal again."
Sage let out a heavy sigh, growing irate with Arthur for not paying attention to her. "Arthur, you need to leave."
Arthur, realizing what was going on, cleared his throat and stood upright. "I am coming with you."
Sage could not believe her ears. "No, no. You need to return to the mansion."
Arthur smiled. "And tell His Majesty what you are doing here?"
Sage’s ears popped out of her head. He was blackmailing her!
"Sage!" Katherine called out with urgency as the portal began to flicker.
"Listen to me! Leave! Now!" Sage yelled in frustration, grabbed Katherine’s wrist, and they both disappeared through the portal.
Arthur was taken by surprise. He did not know what else to do except rush into the portal, which vanished instantly.
They all arrived in the land of sea blood.
Sage turned around, facepalming, unable to believe Arthur had followed her in. "What do you think you are doing here?!"
Arthur laughed nervously at her outburst. "I cannot leave you unprotected. His majesty will kill me."
Sage’s eyes twitched. Cyrus would have a panic attack! She didn’t want him to have one! It was the reason she was acting in this way without telling him.
"Sage, you need to calm down or else you will alert him." Katherine reminded in a soothing tone.
Sage looked at her friend and sighed deeply to calm herself down. "We should hurry."
Without saying anything else to Arthur, who was taken aback by the eerie realm, they started walking and ended up lost in a forest of dead trees.
They spent hours walking with no luck to see the sea of blood. But there were creaks and growls from every corner.
Katherine and Sage were unmoved. Arthur, on the other hand, did his best to appear unfazed, but as he adjusted to the terrifying forest, his skin was crawling.
"Fire mage..." Sage stopped and gasped as a deep, hissed whisper reached her ears.
Arthur and Katherine came to a stop behind her, gazing.
"What is wrong?" Katherine asked.
"Nothing. Come on, let’s get moving." Sage uttered a low, reluctant mutter.
Still, she walked. With Katherine and Arthur by her sides.
Suddenly, deep audible growls erupted, and dark beings were seen running through the trees at high speeds. They were scanning the mages and dragons like predators on prey.
Sage, Katherine and Arthur came to a halt. Sage’s hands emitted large flames, which transformed into powerful thick whips. Katherine formed large glowing water-like balls with her hands. Arthur took out his swords.
They were immediately surrounded by over a hundred cursed mages. Skeleton-like creatures covered in black skin and blood.
Katherine was concerned about the amount. "Sage, you must go ahead of us. We will catch up."
Arthur, taken aback by the creatures, said nothing.
Sage acknowledged Katherine’s words with a nod. "Take care."
Katherine smiled at her. "Go."
Sage was reluctant to leave them with so many cursed mages. However, the cursed mages did not want her to make up her mind.
They were out to get her. Their goal was to murder her!
Her fire whip’s flames flared dangerously, and in one swift motion, they extended and sliced through over fifteen of them altogether.
She succeeded in making room for herself and took off running.
As soon as Katherine realized that they were attempting to pursue Sage, she started to attack them. Every blast reduced the cursed mages to puddles of steaming blood.
She looked at Arthur. He fought the mages with great skill. His sword was gleaming with each slash into the mages. Her brow rose. That was obviously not a normal sword.
Shaking off her curiosity, she concentrated solely on pursuing all of the cursed mages who were heading for Sage. With vibrant speed, they are wiped out by each ferocious blast.
Going through a lot at once. Controlled by Statkus mages, she nearly killed her friend and mother... The only thing... The only person who made her life blossom was River. She wanted to live for him. She was not going to die here! Never!
Her blue eyes shone brightly. Her speed accelerated, and her blasts became even more powerful.
It took nothing from her. She ended up having the most kills. In an instant, all of the cursed mages were vanquished.
But she did not stop.
She continued to speed up to catch Sage, signaling Arthur to follow her. She knew there were more cursed mages nearby. Cursed mages that had gone after Sage.
..
"Fire mage..."
"Fire mage..."
Sage, breathing hard, was beginning to surrender to the call of whispers. Every second, with a heavy breath, her eyes would become lifeless, like those of a Statkus mage, and when she shook her head, she would return to normal.
The cursed mages... and Statkus mages.
They were not working together. Their goals were different, but also similar in some ways.
The cursed mages wanted to rip her apart, while the Statkus mages wanted her fire core. Her life-force.
Abruptly, a deep, raspy laugh echoed from behind her.
She clenched her teeth, and her eyes went dead.
"Where do you think you are going, Fire mage?" Jorad questioned, amusement evident in his raspy voice.
Inkadon and Jestia materialized next to him.
"What a surprise!" Inkadon laughed.
"She was rescued from the call, but here in the land of the sea of blood? Isn’t this odd?" Jestia frowned, clearly uncomfortable with Sage’s presence.
Just like that, Sage snapped out of it. She balled her fists tightly, angry at both the Statkus mages and herself.
It was obvious she had no time for them!
"Sage!" A familiar voice reached her ears. The tone was gentle and soft. It brought tears to her eyes.
"Mother!" She found herself calling.
The Statkus mages were taken aback, but before they could attack Sage, she vanished from sight. Appearing in front of a vast sea of blood.
Sage was without fear. Her eyes grew weary and began to wander, looking for her mother.
This was not the first time something like this had happened to her. But... that voice. It sounded so different than the last, so genuine. It was filled with both relief and desperation.
"You have returned." Lucian’s raspy voice resonated behind her. He was behind her, but she made no move to face him.
"My mother. Is that really her?" She asked, tears streaming down her cheeks slowly.
The spirit sighed. "Why have you returned?"
"I..." Sage sniffed. "I want to lift the curse."
Lucian was surprised. "Curse? Doing so could cost you your life!"
Sage said nothing. It was a risk for a reason.
"Sage. My daughter. Come. I will protect you." The voice called out again. It emanated from the enormous bloody sea directly before her eyes.
Sage smiled. "Grandfather, please bestow blessings."
Her words stunned Lucian, but he quickly smiled and reached out to put a hand on her shoulder. "Go. You have all of my blessings. You and your little one." He whispered and vanished, leaving a pale white glow in his wake.
Sage closed her eyes, grieving his loss. She knew this was the last time she would see him. But, what did he mean by "little one"?
"Sage, my dear," Again came her mother’s voice.
Sage edged closer to the water. More and more steps until it abruptly broke in two, forming a massive wave wall with a dry land in the center.
She thought it strange that she felt no fear. Instead, she was blown away.
As soon as she started walking to the dry land, she heard growls and snarls from behind her and turned to see so many cursed mages rushing towards her, Arthur and Katherine being preoccupied with so many others.
She gasped and began running, but one caught her and slashed its claws into her back, causing her to scream in pain.
Her blood splattered across the dry ground.
"SAGE!" Katherine screamed, hoping to rush to her, but two cursed mages jumped out and pinned her to the ground.
Arthur was too overwhelmed by the number of cursed mages to help any of them.
Sage gritted her teeth in anguish. The cursed mage behind her slashed her back yet again. However, this time, the wall of blood sprouted bloody hands and grabbed the cursed mage.
Sage turned, horrified, as the cursed mage struggled to get her while being swept away by the wave.
She took a deep breath and turned to face forward.
Another step forward, and another curse mage has caught her, this time launching an all-out attack on her.
She grunted, her body erupting with fire that reduced it to nothing more than ash.
"SAGE!"
"YOUR MAJESTY!"
Katherine and Arthur’s cries reached her ears.
As she stood up, she noticed a plethora of enraged, cursed mages encircling them.
Their bodies were already slathered in bruises. She was not going to let them die because of her!
She started running towards them. However, before she could get to them, a massive wave of golden fire descended upon the cursed sorcerers, and Katherine instinctively shielded Arthur and herself with an incomplete water shield to keep them safe.
"River!" She called, deactivating the shield.
The golden dragon prince appeared, approaching her with a frown on his face.
Katherine felt intimidated and wanted to explain, but he pulled her into an embrace before he could say anything.
Sage was astounded by his sudden appearance. When she realized what was going on, she turned and began running until she was in the middle of the sea and still on dry land.
She closed her eyes, prepared to be swallowed by the sea of blood.
"You will be the death of me." Came his voice filled with exhaustion that sent her heart racing.
